“My life was too ‘busy’”

“There’s fullness to my life; the love that Christ pours in to me is overflowing – do you want some?” I was invited twice to go to the Catechetical Insti-tute. The first time I wasn’t ready; my life was too “busy”, but a seed had been planted. I was more ready when the second invitation came just over a year ago. Instead of a quick answer of no, I said I’d pray about it. The invitation came during Lent as I was trying to change or increase or deepen or ex-plore my relationship with Christ. I’m not sure which word to use. There was a desire to go deeper, but I didn’t know how to do that alone, on my own. In my prayer, it came to me that I am never alone, and that I can’t do it on my own. Christ is in me. His Holy Spirit breathes in me. He loves me. There’s a bible passage that has stayed with me since the days of vacation bible school, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. Philippians 4:13. All things; not just some things or the things that are comfortable. I asked a few questions of the Ascension and St Ber-nard parishioners who had already attended. They were so joyful! Each one encouraged me to go. It was evident to me that their enthusiasm was in re-sponse to the way Christ was working in them. We hear a lot about the fruit of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. I recognized these gifts in them. I started at the CI last September. We read our as-signed paragraphs in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, answer questions in our workbooks, discuss the lesson in small group and listen to a lecture. That’s the process in a nutshell. (See h p://www.cistudent.com/ for more details). What really happens is that you encounter God’s plan of salva-tion for us. The plan He put in place at the moment of the fall. You discover it on your own, meet with people who are on their own journey.

< < < <Continued from the column on the left All kinds of people – old, young, religious, converts, exploring, questioning, seeking. You make new friends. Then you listen to Priests, Deacons, Pro-fessors and Bishops share their knowledge about our Church. It is magnificent. It is changing me in a way that I never anticipated. There’s fullness to my life; the love that Christ pours in to me is overflow-ing – do you want some? There’s more than enough for everyone! I don’t have fancy words to describe this. I only know that Christ loves me and you and everyone. Anything we do to reach out and accept that love brings Him joy. If you’re inter-ested in hearing more about the CI, please ask me.
