PARISH VISION STATEMENT As the Parish of Saint Columbkille, we strive to be a welcoming, caring, Catholic family that transforms lives, proclaiming the Kingdom of God.

(Vision is about who we want to be in the future…)

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT As missionary disciples of Jesus, being formed as a community through Scripture and Sacraments, we are sent into the world to joyfully proclaim the Gospel with our lives.

(Mission is about what we do now…)

OUR WEEKLY MISSION

Advent leads to Christmas Joy – Merry Christmas! Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future. You are wonderfully made by God for holiness! “Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.” The words spoken by Elizabeth, cousin of Mary, on the occasion of the Visitation, reveals how God interacts

with humanity. God trusts you and me to collaborate with an amazing mission to transform the world, one person at a time. It all starts as God the Father chooses to make His divine plan a reality by trusting in the “yes” of a 15-year-old girl from the little town of Nazareth. God the Father chooses to trust in a 20-something-year-old carpenter from Bethlehem to be the foster father of the Lord of the Universe. It continues as God the Father chooses you to be reading this and praying with us at St. Columbkille Parish this Christmas. You are here for one reason and one purpose; to grow in holiness and discover the eternal salvation won for you by the precious Body and Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Your life might be filled with all kinds of obstacles, setbacks and sins and yet God says, “I want to work with you, to bring new life to the world.” This may be the first time you’ve come to church in over a decade or you may know a family member, coworker or friend who walked away from God years ago and yet God says “I am glad you are here, work with me!” Don’t fall for the cultural lie that holiness and salvation aren’t possible. Holiness is possible because God enters our world every moment of every day and speaks to your heart and mine saying “I want you to be the way I heal the sick person today…I want you to be the way I speak to the widow today…I want you to be the way I smile at your teacher today.” That is why we are giving you a great free book this Christmas entitled “Rediscover the Saints,” by Matthew Kelly. Please take a book home with you, read it and pass it on to other people in your life who are striving to become saints. Every saint has a past and ever sinner has a future. God wants to change the world through you. Merry Christmas to you and your families. Never forget, the Lord is with us, always!

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PRAYER

REST IN PEACE May all our deceased parishioners live forever in the joy of the Resurrection… Lawrence Krumheuer, Patricia Schuller

PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR SICK Please keep in your prayers, Anna Hassing, Maria Romito and all the members of our parish who are ill. If you would like your loved one’s or friend’s name on the please pray for list, please call the rectory office at (216) 524-

1987. Please be sure that the person who is ill consents to have their name placed on the list.

FATHER JAMIE’S HEALING HUMOR A woman went to the Post Office to buy stamps for her Christmas cards. “What denomination?,” asked the clerk. “Oh, good heavens! Have we come to this?,” said the woman. “Well, give me 50 Catholic and 50 Baptist ones.” (from HOLY HUMOR by Cal & Rose Samra, 1996) They shall name him "Emmanuel" a name which means "God is with us." Jesus comes to be with all of us, not just Catholics, not just Christians, not just Jews nor Muslims. Jesus comes as the savior for the whole human race. He shows us God’s love, not because we are so lovable, but because God is love.

WEEKLY SCRIPTURE PASSAGE As we pray together the passage from Matthew's gospel, let us be reminded of what Fr. Suso tells us each week, that God is always with us. “All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,” which means ‘God is with us.’”Matthew 1:22-23

FINANCIAL NEWS AND NOTES 2019 END OF YEAR CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS: For the second year now the parish office has been tracking the contributions of registered parishioners who donated by use of

their envelopes or checks in order to produce the required statement of these contributions for tax purposes. Please contact the parish office at (216) 524-1987 and give us your name, envelope number, address and phone number and you will be added to a list in order to receive a year-end statement of your 2019 contributions. If you donated through Faith Direct, you will automatically receive a contribution statement from them, and you don’t have to call the office. FAITH DIRECT ELECTRONIC GIVING: Many of you are aware and take advantage of the convenience of electronic giving to our parish and we are grateful for that. Right now, over 300 families contribute to St. Columbkille using Faith Direct and we would love to have you do so as well! Here’s why: Faith Direct enables parishioners to make your Church contributions through either direct debit from your checking/savings account or through your credit/debit card. No more writing checks or searching for envelopes on the way out the door. Now you can apply the convenience of direct debit to your parish offerings in much the same way as you may now use it to make your mortgage, car or tuition payments. Faith Direct also offers you personalized offertory cards to replace your envelopes for the collection basket. Please visit www.faithdirect.net to enroll securely online using our parish code: OH668. Thank you to everyone who contributed time, talent or treasure to St. Columbkille Parish in 2019! WEEKLY OFFERTORY: The offertory collection for the weekend of December 14th and 15th was $13,632.06.Thank you for your continued generosity to our parish!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION CHAPEL “Do you want Our Lord to give you many graces? Visit Him often. Do you want Him to give you few graces? Visit Him seldom. Visits to the Blessed Sacrament are powerful and an indispensable means of overcoming the attacks of the devil. Make frequent visits to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and the devil will be powerless against you.” St. John Bosco The Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, located in the Parish Center, is open daily between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. You DO NOT need an appointment. The Chapel is open to scheduled adorers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Anyone interested in spending a specific hour each week with Jesus, please call Scott or Amanda at (216) 310-6831.

ST. COLUMBKILLE NEEDS YOUR HELP Many visitors stop into the Adoration chapel each day to enjoy time with Jesus. However, in order to keep our chapel thriving, we need committed adorers for the below hours so our Lord will never be left alone. Please know, with help from the Adoration Team, subs are always available if you are unable to cover your hour.

R.C.I.A.! The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is underway. However, it is always the right time to respond to the Lord’s invitation to a full life. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about the Catholic faith or exploring life in the Church, contact Fr. Michael at (216) 524-1987. Inquiries that begin now will most likely join next year’s formal RCIA instruction. However, every person’s journey is unique, so there’s no reason not to begin a relationship with the Church, even just to have a conversation! Nowhere does Jesus say, “See me next year.” Call today!

SCHOOL & YOUTH NEWS

“LET THE CHILDREN COME TO ME!” Mt 10:14Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) is now at St.

Columbkille! All children 4-8 years old are invited to attend Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) every Sunday during the 10:30 a.m. Mass. There is no fee, sign-up or

registration! Every Sunday during the 10:30 a.m. Mass, the priest celebrant invites the children to gather in front of the altar. The children, guided by a CLOW leader, then process to the church basement. Once assembled in the basement, the CLOW leader proclaims the readings of the day to the children in a way they can more easily understand. The children rejoin their families in church at the beginning of the offertory. Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a great opportunity for the children of our parish to attend Mass with their families while, at the same time, hear the work of God explained in an age appropriate way. If you have any questions, please contact Shari Chmura at (216) 524-1987 or [email protected].

It’s easy to do…just clip them and keep them in a baggie or envelope marked “Box Tops,” and drop them into the collection basket. It is a quick and easy way to help our school earn money. • Do you like to read to children? (Martha, thank you!) If you have a talent or a task that you would like to share/perform, please contact the school librarian at [email protected]. Thanks in advance and to those of you who helped last year…YOUR SUPPORT MADE/WILL MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE! We also wish to thank Penske Truck Rental for again donating the use of a vehicle for the delivery of the gifts. We also would like to express our sincere appreciation to the many volunteers who gave so generously of their time to make the Giving Tree project a reality.
