If we could carry one life-giving, life-saving word with us from today’s holy Word, it might be “Behold!” As we walk into each opportunity, we could say: “Behold.” As we witness an unexpected struggle, we might pray: “Behold.” As every ordinary moment passes, are we willing to be surprised and “Behold?” God is within every breathe, every relationship, every cross, every everything! Can we BE and HOLD each moment as sacred, as gift, as oppor-tunity to find, discover and appreciate and be surprised by God’s abiding pres-ence? This very simple exercise deepens and enriches life immeasurably. May we approach our BUILDING series with this “BEHOLDING” openness.

Dear Parishioners:

Sacred Scripture today reflects the example Jesus gave us: How to respond to insults, painful relationships, temptations, loneliness, abandonment, frustra-tion with others, disappointment with ourselves and others. Love. Jesus mod-eled for us the risk of friendship as well as the joy of sharing our life together. Love. Our life shares the Good News to all we meet.

Special blessings upon all families celebrating First Holy Communion this weekend! May the Body and Blood of Jesus keep you ever close to Him now and for eternal life!

In three weeks, we will elect new members to our Pastoral Councils and Faith Formation Commissions. If you or someone you know is interested in serving God in this way please contact me at the parish office. It is time for the next generation to become servant leaders, welcoming new life in the Church, The Body of Christ!

Easter Blessings upon your family! Fr. Gabriel

Parish Twinning – Thanks to all, who in February or March, contributed to our sister parish St. Therese of the Child Jesus in Gonaives, Haiti. We recently sent $3,500 contributed by parishioners and/or outside sources to our friend and pas-tor, Fr. Paul, who is extremely appreciative of our generosity. A reminder that Deacon Jerry Temeyer is matching up to $1,000 per month toward the comple-tion of the parish rectory/guesthouse.

Great Give Day - On Tuesday May 3, 2016, the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque is sponsoring the third annual Great Give Day, a 24-hour online giving event for Northeast Iowa nonprofits. Last year’s event raised $324,308.00 in just one day for the many Dubuque Area organizations benefit-ting from this event. The Social Justice Ministry at St. Joseph the Worker has been approved as a recipient of funds contributed to the event in our behalf. To make a contribution, go to www.greatgiveday.org , scroll down to Faith and Religion, and choose the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church icon, listed as one of 6 recipients. All proceeds will be used to assist our sister parish, St. Therese of the Child Jesus, in Gonaives, Haiti complete its rectory/guesthouse and to meet the needs of people in this poor mountain area who are in need of assistance with food, clothes, and medicine. Thanks for your generosity in ad-vance!

OCTOBEFEST 2016 Hello St. Joseph the Worker Community! Julie and Dan Neebel here. After reading the bulletin for many weeks and ignoring the request for an Octoberfest Chair, we finally heard the call and volunteered. We value the community building that happens at Octoberfest, so we decided to take on the role of Chairing Octoberfest, with the help of many. We really need someone to read this and realize they are hearing the call to be chair of Silent Auction. In addi-tion, we are looking for new ideas to make the event even more fun for the en-tire community and for a few more co-chairs to help with some of the activities, such as the dining room, kitchen, candy & pop wheel, bingo, tractor pull, kids corner, or whatever else you think might be fun to add to Octoberfest. Thank you very much to those who have already volunteered to help. Looking forward 2 seeing the St. Joe’s community come 2-gether 2 have fun at Octoberfest on Sunday, October 2. We can be reached at [email protected] or [email protected] or by phone at 563 495 2680 (Dan) or 563 557 8986 (Julie).
