A very special Thank you to all those who volunteered to

make “Come Sit at Jesus’ Table” such a great success! St.

Joseph the Worker was the host for this reenactment of the

Last Supper this past Wednesday evening for our First

Communicants and others to further appreciate what the

Lord did for all of us the night before he died. We celebrate

this every Sunday at Mass. Next week’s bulletin will have

pictures and a complete list of all who made it possible.

We are so very blessed to have so much talent in our

Eucharistic Adoration & Stations of the Cross Come and meet the Lord in the consecrated Host within the Monstrance on the altar. A beautiful devotion of the Church

going back centuries. During this Holy Hour, we will also have time to pray the Stations of the Cross, a beautiful Lenten

prayer that allows us to go deeper spiritually in this Lenten Season. Held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm - 7:30pm

St. Joseph the Worker beginning at 6:30 pm with Rosary, Mass, Presentation and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Holy Community Catechesis - Holy Family - April 2nd The Living Stations Mime Troupe from St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, Mapleton, will perform The Passion of Our Lord

(in mime) at Holy Family on April 2 at 6:30 p.m. This performance is a representation of the actions, characters, events of

Holy Week using gestures, narration, movement, and music. A soup supper hosted by the Holy Family Men’s Club will

precede the event at 5:30pm. Both are free-will and open to the public.

Holy Community Catechesis - St. Joseph the Worker - April 9th During Holy Week, we celebrate Holy Thursday, which was the Last Supper Jesus shared with his Apostles. What would

have it been like to be there? Join us on Wednesday, April 9th at St. Joseph the Worker at 6:30 pm for the presentation:

“Come Sit at Jesus’ Table”. Hear the stories of the Apostles! Share a Seder Meal! Join us before hand for a simple

supper beginning at 5:30 pm.

Fasting The Catholic Church’s regulations on fasting require those between the ages of 18 and 59 to fast on Ash Wednesday and

Good Friday, limiting themselves to one full meal and two smaller meals each day, with no snacking between meals. Catholics age 14

and older abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent. When we fast, we unite ourselves with

others who suffer from want. We also sharpen our awareness of our dependence on God for all the gifts in our lives.

CHRISTIANS ARE NOT WHIMPS

Some people criticize Christianity for

this teaching in particular. They say that

followers of Jesus are just wimps. They

say that instead of fighting for what’s

right, Christians passively allow themselves to be

taken advantage of. But this is actually a very

superficial criticism. The most powerful force for

change in this world full of conflict and sin is not

vengeance or violence, but forgiveness.

The Roman Empire was built by force and

violence, but it passed away a long time ago.

Christ’s Kingdom, the Church, is built on the deeper

power of forgiveness and unconditional love, and it

has not only outlasted the Roman Empire, but it is

still growing today. It’s the longest lasting institution

in the history of the world, even longer lasting than

the ancient Chinese Empires. And in the first

centuries of Christianity, when the Roman Empire

tried to destroy the Church by force, by persecution,

it was precisely the Christian’s power to forgive and

endure that made the Church grow. Pagan Romans

would watch the trials, tortures, and executions of

the Christians. And no matter how unjustly the

Christians were condemned, no matter how cruelly

they were tortured, they never condemned their

enemies in return. Instead, they simply explained

the gospel, and then lived it out by being faithful to

Christ up to death. That example produced a steady

stream of converts to the Christian faith, because

the pagans had never witnessed such self-

sacrificing nobility and courage.

When we give in to bitterness, hatred, and the

desire for vengeance, we lose the power of God’s

grace at work in our hearts. And that power is the

only power capable of conquering evil, of ending the

cycle of destructive violence, of bringing

resurrections out of crucifixions. May you and yours

God!
