ANTI-BULLYING AMBASSADOR TRAINING This week East Sussex County Council have visited Causeway and held some workshops with our An-Bullying Ambassadors. All students involved found the workshops informave and construcve in helping them with their role in helping our students address bullying both in and out of school. All Ambassadors were full of praise: “We started by all picking a word that we think describes us best and then introduced ourselves and explained why we’d chosen that word. It showed that everyone is different and has different things they feel strongly about.” “The 2 trainers made us laugh by showing how not to listen to someone with problems – don’t look bored, make eye contact but don’t stare and pay aenon! We played some games about how to react when someone is telling us something important. Don’t just laugh at another person’s problems but don’t be a drama queen and over react either!” “We all worked really well as a team and came up with loads of ideas to help people with bullying or friendship issues. We found the training session ‘interesng’, ‘helpful’, ‘fun’ and ‘fascinang’.” “During our An-Bullying training, we were taught how to be a peer-mediator. This includes resolving small issues that are more appropriate to be dealt with by those in our age group. We were taught about the 4 types of bullying: emoonal, verbal, physical and cyber, and how to deal with them. Overall it was a very beneficial acvity for all of us and it has prepared us for future problems that we can now deal with.” Causeway An-Bullying Ambassadors are: Brunel: Maria Rokan, Molly Stammers, Cerys James, Harley Mack, Lily Burgess, Fenn Buddle, Jack Dudley, Tomas Rodrigues Santos, Theo King, Beth Clifford, Melody Moorton, Hannah French. The games are coming quick and fast for the team with the next week seeing them play in the 1/4 final of the County Cup and away fixture in Reading in the next round of the Naonal Cup. We would like to wish them and all of our sporng teams the best of luck over the coming weeks. This week we are highlighng some excellent Year 11 GCSE Science work completed by Lily Simmons, Daisy Douglas and James Webb. The highlights of the week have all taken place in our fantasc main hall auditorium. This week we were seriously impressed with the primary pupils who joined our Bugsy Malone rehearsal. The chorus will be full of energy without any doubt. We also hosted an inspiraonal speaker from the Barclay’s Life Skills programme, who worked with Year 9s and Year 10s. But my favourite item of the week was Mrs Pavey’s assemblies, she shared the hopes, dreams and disasters facing the migrants who live in the Calais ‘jungle’ migrant camp. Very moving!

AMAZING TURNOUT FOR BUGSY REHEARSALS

Eastbourne Education Business Partnership hosted its

annual Young Engineers Challenge on Friday. Many local

schools attended and Causeway were represented by

Alfie Carr, Harvey Baldwin, Katrina Allen and Grace

Mackay. The teams were asked to build a wind turbine

to strict specifications, using bamboo and elastic bands

to make a tower able to support a propeller. The

turbine was then subjected to a propeller speed test

and made to lift a mass The teams were split into two

individual teams, one team worked on the tower and

the other on the propeller. It was very exciting and the

students would love to do it again. By Grace Mackay

Rehearsals for Bugsy, the next school production, have now started with an amazing turnout from both Causeway students and local primary schools. Invitations were sent to local schools to ask if Year 5 or Year 6 pupils would like to audition and take part in the chorus of this popular musical. We have been extremely pleased with the number of pupils from primary schools that want to take part as well as their singing and acting abilities.

Students undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh Award have been planning for their expedition in May this week. They have been practicing how to cook on trangia's, what type of food they need to take with them and what they will need to take in their rucksacks to last them all weekend.

Following on from last week’s Year 7 Indoor Athletics report, Year 8 have also done very well achieving some excellent individual results. Rachel Wheeler won vertical jump Lily Rose Kinane won speed bounce and Jasmine Lambert came joint first in the standing long jump. All worked hard and represented Causeway well.

YEAR 8 ATHLETICS

We are also very happy to report that an external Cricket Coach has agreed to come to Causeway and coach girls cricket for girls in Years 7 and 8. This will take place on Tuesdays afterschool, starting on Tuesday 23 February, for 6 weeks. Sessions will run from 3.45pm - 4.15pm. This is a free course. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity. For further details see Miss Holden.
