A dynamic economy Rapidly progressing energy requirements
Morocco has to give support to the petroleum
product market to avoid penalizing its people’s purchasing
power. This support has a signifi cant impact on the country’s
fi nances, all the more so because the demand for petroleum products
is increasing continuously.

IN THE FACE OF THIS SITUATION:
RENEWABLE ENERGIES ARE THE MAIN SOLUTION

The Moroccan Integrated Solar Energy
Project, launched on November 2, 2009
in Ouarzazate, under the effective
presidency of His Majesty the King
Mohammed VI
• Power installed: 2 000 MW (38% of present installed power).
• Annual production capacity:
≈ 4500 GWh (18% of present national production)
• Estimated cost: 9 Billion Dollars
• 5 sites chosen covering a total surface
of 10 000 hectares: Ouarzazate, Ain Beni Mathar,
Foum Al Oued, Boujdour and Sebkhet Tah.
• Commissioning dates:
The fi rst power station in 2015.
The whole project to be
completed by the end of 2019
• Annual savings
of 1 million TOE.
• Emission of 3.7 million
tons of CO2 avoided
per year.
The Moroccan Integrated Wind-Turbine
Project launched in Tangiers on June 28, 2010
under the effective presidency of His
Majesty the King Mohammed VI
• Construction of wind-farms
with an installed capacity
of 2 000 MW (38% of the
capacity installed at present).
• Annual energy production
6600 GWh
(26 % of national production
at present)
• Estimated cost:
3.5 Billion Dollars
• As well as existing or in-progress projects, fi ve new sites
chosen for their exceptional wind-farm potential:
Sendouk (Tangiers), Koudia Baida II (Tetouan), Taza (Taza),
Tiskrad (Laayoune), Boujdour (Boujdour)
• Impacts: Annual savings of 1.5 million TOE and emission of
5.6 million tons of CO2 avoided per year
• The fi rst wind-farm will be commissioned in 2014 and the
whole program will be completed in 2020.

The objective of these two major projects is to reinforce the offer by means of national resources, to reduce the country’s
energy dependence and to preserve the environment.
The aim is to increase the contribution made by renewable energy in primary energy consumption from almost 5% in 2009
to 8% by 2012, and to reach 10% to 12% by 2020 and 15% to 20% by 2030.
The contribution of renewable energy to electricity production will attain 42% in 2020.Sources: Ministry for Energy, Mines, Water and the Environment
Projects for residential housing:
In their PEREN program, the ADEREE and the GIZ recommend
a program for having a million solar roofs on a 2020 horizon.
Based on self-suffi ciency principles and net invoicing
(a bidirectional electricity meter), the program would lead
to production of over 12% of the electricity consumed at present
and create a market of over 7 billion Dh and 9,000 jobs on a
2020 horizon.
Renewable energy and energy
efficiency in buildings:
Morocco and France faced
with the same challenges.
In July 2009, the ADEREE launched its National Program for
Energy Effi ciency in Buildings, with support from the United Nations
Development Program and the GEF (Global Environment Facility).
In December 2011, ADEREE & ADEME signed a “twinning” contract.
Piloted by the Ministry for Energy, Mines,
Water and the Environment through its
ADEREE agency, Morocco has undertaken a
vast program on energy effi ciency in buildings
and the development of renewable energy.
“Together with industry and transport, buildings are one of the most energy-
consuming sectors in the country with 36% of fi nal energy consumption,
29% for residential requirements and 7% in tertiary applications. Today,
energy effi ciency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions represent essential
elements in the energy strategy in order to offset constantly increasing energy
costs and preserve the environment.
With a building rate of almost 200,000 homes per year in residential
housing alone, there is a big opportunity on a 2020 horizon for creating an
energy effi ciency savings of 29%, and this just in the building and tertiary
industry sector.”

New in 2013
A new area dedicated to sustainable construction
and energy effi ciency in building will be organized
inside the exhibition.
