40+ years of camp fun for kids of all ages!At the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (JCCNV), our camps are filled with opportunities for campers to play, explore and experience all that camp has to offer in an environment based on Jewish values and culture. Our camp program includes indoor and outdoor activities, singing, dancing, sports activities, swim lessons, field trips and more!

Camp Ahava Camp K’Ton Ton (20-35 months)Camp K’ Tona (3 and 4 year olds)Camp K’Tona Too, in Alexandria, VA (20 months–4 years) Our preschool camp, which includes full- and part-time camping experiences, provides lots of stimulating, hands-on, sensory and developmentally appropriate camp activities for our youngest campers. They will play and explore through music, art, games, swim, playground activities, and much more! Journey with us on fun-filled adventures as we make new friends and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Camp Achva (Rising K-10th grades) Since 1969, Camp Achva has been the premier Jewish day camp in Northern Virginia! Whatever type of camp your school-age child is dreaming of, it’s likely that Camp Achva can deliver through its many varied camps!

Kef Sports Clinics (Rising K-12th grades) Developed with focused athletes in mind, there are plenty of opportunities to hone skills while enjoying the special ruach (spirit) of camp.Whichever JCCNV camps you choose, we promise a unique blend of camp activities, Jewish culture and fun-loving and experienced staff members to facilitate a summer of fun and exploration.

Summer Shlichim Housing NeededOnce again, Camp Achva is thrilled to welcome shlichim (Israeli Emissaries) to Northern Virginia. These young adults bring Israel to your child’s camp experience and can do the same in your home. Families who have hosted shlichim in the past will tell you what an enriching experience it is. If you would like the opportunity to host one of these amazing Israelis, please contact Nori White at (703) 537-3041 or [email protected]. The shlichim arrive in mid-June and stay through the end of August. Optimal hosting sessions are 3–4 weeks and families can choose to house one or both shlichim.

This exciting program for children with ADD/ADHD and Asperger’s syndrome is based on the latest research, proven methods for improving children’s social skills, and JSSA’s (Jewish Social Service Agency) successful Social Skill Therapy model. Camp Shalom’s mission is to improve each child’s ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with peers and to build a solid foundation for making and keeping friends within a relaxed, fun and creative environment. The camp day includes morning therapy sessions and afternoon inclusion programs to reinforce what was learned and help build social connections. LCSWs from JSSA along with JCCNV Special Abilities staff, facilitate the program.

Admission Process: Applications are dated and time-stamped. Each child who submits an application is interviewed. Counselors from both JSSA and JCCNV participate in each in-terview. Weeks 3–8: July 9–August 17Get ready for an exciting summer with Omanoot, as together with Charlie, Veruca, Augus-tus, Mike and Violet, we enter the candy-filled rooms of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. In this six week theater camp, we will work hard and play hard to produce a scrumdiddlyump-tious performance of Willy Wonka Jr®. Omanoot campers will experience the many aspects of theater including: audition techniques, set design, costume design, theatrical make-up and more! This program is an excellent experience, whether your child is an experienced theater performer or brand new to the theater world. J-scouting and Exploration:“Do Your Best”Grades K-3

Week 4: July 16–20Returning for its second season, this one-week exploration and discovery clinic will provide opportunities that help each participant “Do Your Best”. J-scouting helps fulfill a child’s desire for creativity and adventure, while taking part in games, field trips and service projects. 2012 Registration Information and Rules for All Programs

Please read carefully before you complete your camper’s registration form.

PRIORITY REGISTRATION: Registrations are processed in the order they are received. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. JCCNV family membership must remain active throughout the entire camp session. The registration form MUST be signed and a deposit included and contact and emergency information filled out in order to be processed. If you have questions, call Karen Stern at (703) 537-3029 for Grades K–10 and Kef Sports Clinics and Jennafer Curran at (703) 537-3077 for Camp Ahava (preschool). For information on JCCNV member-ship, please contact the Membership Department at [email protected].

LIMITED ENROLLMENT: Due to Fairfax County licensing, each session has a fixed maximum number of campers that can be accommodated. Parents will be notified if they are put on a wait list. For the safety of our campers, enrollment cannot be expanded beyond capacity. Please register early to ensure your placement. There is a separate wait list for each camp and sports clinic. Slots are filled as space becomes available per camp/clinic. All programs and bus transportation are contingent upon minimum enrollment.

TUITION AND DEPOSITS: Camp and clinic tuition and deposits are nonrefundable. Be sure you know which session you want before you register. Camp Achva tuition cannot be prorated for partial sessions unless you are enrolling in a one-week specialty camp and need to offset it with an additional week of general camp. Total fees are due on May 1, 2012. Invoices paid 7 days late will be charged a 5% late fee. The registration form must be filled out completely for each child. A $100 deposit per child per two week session, plus a $50 deposit for each ad-ditional two week session, is required with each registration. The deposit will be applied toward each designated session fee.

Camp and sports clinic fees may be paid by check, payable to the JCCNV, or charged on VISA, MasterCard and American Express.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: If you are in need of financial assistance, please contact Fairfax County Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) at (703) 324-3556. You may also contact Karen Stern, camp registrar for grades K–10 and Kef Sports Clinics at (703) 537-3029, or Jennafer Curran at (703) 537-3077 for Camp Ahava (preschool) to request a Student Aid Form application. To receive a scholarship you must be a JCCNV member.

JCCNV CAMP and SPORTS CLINIC FORMS: All forms MUST be received by JUNE 1, 2012. This includes Proof of Age. No camper will be able to attend camp or sports clinics un-less these forms are on file. Please do not bring them the first day. Virginia state licensing does not permit us to accept a child into camp unless current JCCNV forms are on file.

CAMP LIFE: All campers and sports participants should be able to adjust to camp life, participate in scheduled activities and accept direction from staff. If they are not able to adjust, they will be asked to withdraw at the discretion of the directors and in consultation with the parents.

LUNCH: All campers and sports participants are to bring a dairy or parve lunch (no meat, poultry or shellfish) and a drink each day. Please refer to your parent manual for suggestions. Hot lunch is available for purchase on Fridays, preregistration required.

JCCNV ON-SITE CARPOOL PROCEDURE: Each camper/sports participant will receive two carpool number cards. Families are required to show these cards when picking up children.

SESSION CHANGES: If a participant wishes to switch camps and space allows, we request a two-day notice prior to the beginning of the session. A $25 administrative fee will be charged.

HEAD LICE: The JCCNV has a NO-NIT (head lice) policy.

PHOTOS and VIDEOGRAPHY: The JCCNV reserves the right to photograph and videotape camp and sports activities for use in publicity and promotional materials. Please notify us in writing if you do not wish your child’s photo to be used.
