Once again it was a sell-out celebration as 350 of Metro Vancouver’s top builders, reno-

vators, designers and industry experts gathered to celebrate the Annual Ovation awards on April 25, 2015.

Now in its sixth year, the Ovation Awards showcases the industry’s diver-sity, innovation, and sheer creativity, so it came as no surprise that the mood was distinctly upbeat at the Marriot Vancouver Pinnacle Hotel in downtown Vancouver.

Total entries were up an astonish-ing 77 per cent over last year, a clear refl ection of both the health of the area’s residential construction industry and the increasing brand recognition of these awards.

“The Ovation brand is a sym-bol consumers can trust and should look for when building or renovat-ing their home,” said Bob de Wit,

CEO of the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association, the association behind the Ovation Awards. De Wit was also delighted by this year’s addi-tion of a new category: Excellence in Technological Innovation in Residential Construction.

Finalists represented a balanced cross-section of well-established entrants and up-and-coming companies with vision. Winners represented the best of the best among this committed group of industry leaders.

And the Winners Are…After a strong showing at the

Georgie Awards in February, Naikoon Contracting Ltd. was the evening’s top winner, taking home a total of seven Ovation Awards including Excellence in Innovation and Sustainability in New Residential Construction, plus the Grand Ovation Award for Custom

Homes Builder of the Year. Midori Uchi, Naikoon’s ultra-energy-effi cient home with rammed earth wall garnered four of the company’s seven wins.

Hot on Naikoon’s heels was longtime awards participant My House Design/Build Team Ltd. with six awards, includ-ing BC Housing’s Award for Excellence in Creating Aff ordable Housing Choices and the Grand Ovation Award for Renovator of the Year: Large Volume. Silver Lining won in two categories – Best Addition and Best Exterior Renovation.

Eclectic Industrial, a fun ‘n’ funky loft renovation that highlighted brick and wood fi nishings plus stain-less steel detailing by Beyond Beige Interior Design got the nod in three categories including Best Townhouse/Condominium Renovation: $200,000 and Over.

The inaugural Excellence in

Technological Innovation in Residential Construction Award went to Graytek Solutions Ltd. with associate Teragon Developments & Construction Inc. for The Mayfair. The Mayfair also garnered Teragon three gold Ovation Awards for Best Renovated Room, Best Outdoor Living Space, as well as the coveted People’s Choice Award.

Relative newcomer Shakespeare Homes & Renovations Inc. added two more awards to their list of acco-lades winning in the Best Renovation: $500,000 - $799,999 and Best Kitchen Renovation: $100,000 and Over. Best Accessible Renovation went to Reid Developments Ltd. for Eton. And Best Heritage Renovation was awarded to Sasen Renovations for Queens in Burnaby.

BRIDAL FALLS RV/COTTAGE RESORT OFFERS WORLD-CLASS AMENITIES

Bill and Linda Nokes were looking for a lot to place their 5th wheel RV trailer for the summer. After

visiting Bridal Falls RV/Cottage Resort, the retired couple ended up buying a full time home.

“When we saw the show cottage and how beautiful the setting was, we decided we wanted to live here full time,” says Linda. “We’ve been in resorts in Phoenix, Arizona and through-out California, but we had never seen such gorgeous cottages along with all these amazing amenities! We were also impressed with the price, by far the best value compared to anywhere else in B.C.”

Linda went on to say: “We sit on our deck by our outdoor gas fireplace and can see Bridal Falls and the moun-tains. We designed our own home and chose all our finishes…we couldn’t be happier.”

Nestled amongst the Cascades Mountain Range, close to three lakes and unparalleled fi shing on the Fraser River, Bridal Falls RV/Cottage Resort is a year-round community where buyers have the option to put their RV on their lot or purchase a cottage.

“We are the only year-round resort development in North America to off er 100 amp service, cable and natural gas to every lot,” says Ron Sturm, owner/

partner in the resort. “But what distin-guishes us from other RV parks is our location at the centre of the Fraser Valley recreation hub, only minutes away from everything you need or want – enter-tainment, sporting facilities, recreation, restaurants/pubs, hospitals and great shopping.”

The cottages feature fully covered decks, natural gas, a stainless steel kitchen appliance package and bed-rooms with built-in storage above the bed along with night tables. (Upgrades include a washer and drier, skylights, fi tted cabinets and sliding patio doors.)

All owners/members enjoy the ben-efi ts of The Club House, a 12,000 sq/ft log cabin, which includes a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, 55-seat theatre, a fully equipped gym, games/cards rooms, lounge, dance fl oor and reading/library area. During the sum-mer, enjoy lounging around the pool

while taking in the paragliders fl ying high over the Cascades Mountain Range.

“There is also a 2,000+ square foot sun deck, looking out over the gardens and the pool and hot-tub deck,” adds Sturm.

You are minutes away from numer-ous lakes, rivers, including Cultus Lake and Harrison Hot Springs; as well as golf courses, parks and the Bridal Falls Waterslides. In addition, you can bike and hike for hours on the many local trails.

“There is salmon and sturgeon fi sh-ing on the Fraser River, which is only fi ve minutes away,” says Sturm, adding the onsite staff are happy to assist with arranging guided fi shing tours.

With deeded lots that are double the size of many of its competitors, Bridal Falls RV/Cottage Resort off ers

an excellent opportunity to enjoy a life-style many of us can only dream of. Remember these introductory prices won’t last forever.

You can own a two-bedroom cottage with matching shed on a large deeded lot starting at as little as $179,950*, or you can choose to purchase a fully landscaped lot with shed for as little as $95,000*. The Bridal Falls RV/Cottage Resort Presentation Centre, located on Cheam Road, in Bridal Falls, is currently open Thursday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Starting the May long week-end, the sales centre will be open daily through the summer season). There is a variety of attractive cottages to choose from. For more information or to book a private viewing, call 604-745-4104, email [email protected] or visit www.discoverbridalfalls.com. * indicates plus all applicable federal and provincial taxes
