Marko is a student at the Eastman School working toward a Bachelor's degree in Organ Performance. However, Marko is hardly a beginner. He has already attained undergraduate and graduate degrees in Theology. He was preparing for Priesthood when he determined that he needed to more fully explore his love of music. Marko is a native of Croatia and studied both there and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, there attaining an STB which is the first level of graduate theological degree in the Roman system. Following completion of his STB he asked for a leave from Priest- hood preparation to pursue his interest in music. He had been the Cathedral Organist in his home diocese of Hvar and studied music as well as theology. His travels brought him to the US, Los Angeles where he worked with the builder of the organ in the Disney Concert Hall. At that time, David Higgs, Chair of the Organ Department at Eastman, met him and invited him to come to Roches- ter and study at Eastman. This begins his sec- ond year of study. MARKO PRANIC

I am happy to introduce our new Organist, Marko Pranic. Following completion of his STB he asked for a leave from Priest-hood preparation to pursue his interest in music. He had been the Cathedral Organist in his home diocese of Hvar and studied music as well as theology. His travels brought him to the US, Los Angeles where he worked with the builder of the organ in the Disney Concert Hall. At that time, David Higgs, Chair of the Organ Department at Eastman, met him and invited him to come to Roches-ter and study at Eastman. This begins his sec-ond year of study. Last year he was organist at St. Boniface Church in the city.

Marko auditioned for members of our choirs and Parish Council. They found him a wonderful candidate for our position. I am happy to have him join our music program here at SJR. He will begin next weekend.

Love,

OUR NEW ORGANIST...

DEACON TOM CLEARY

Dear Parish family: As many of you know by now, I have just spent a week in Highland Hospital, and then three weeks in St. Ann’s Transitional Care Center. During that time, I received many cards and pray-ers from the wonderful people in this parish. I shall be eternally grateful for those prayers and wishes because I truly believe that with the Grace of God, they (and you) are helping to restore me to health. I still have a way to go, but just knowing that you are keeping me in your prayers gives me great hope that I am on the right track. I will still probably have to use a “walker” but compared to where I was a month ago, it’s like night and day. While I was in St. Ann’s, I was reminded of this prayer by St. Teresa of Avila, which I am sure you all know. “Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on

earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassionately on this world. Yours are the feet with

which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours

are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.”

Sincerely, Deacon Tom

STEPHEN MINISTRY CORNER: Invisible

Sometimes a person feels like this—as if no one sees or cares about him or her. Lonely, forgotten. When you feel

like this, a Stephen Minister can listen and give you the caring Christian concern you need. For more information about Stephen Ministry, check out our parish webpage. If this is the kind of care you are looking for, call and request a Stephen Minister (always same gender). Don’t try to struggle with life alone.

Stephen Ministry means: “Christ caring for others…through others.”

Milestones of Early Life Day 52: Spontaneous movement begins. The baby then develops a whole collection of moves over the next 4 weeks including hiccupping, frowning, squinting, fur-rowing the brow, pursing the lips, moving individual arms and legs, head turning, touching the face, breathing (without air), stretching, opening the mouth, yawning, and sucking.

SCRIPTURE READINGS Today, September 6—Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time Isaiah 35:4-7A Say to those whose hearts are frightened: Be strong, fear not! James 2:1-5 Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith? Mark 7:31-37 But the more [Jesus] ordered them not to [tell anyone], the more they proclaimed it. Questions for Reflection: Make a pie chart of things you are afraid of. How does the God of Scripture address these fears? Are there things you are driven to covet? How do you thwart the impulse to discriminate between rich and

poor? The time of restoration is announced. How do you arrange your life to prepare to welcome it? Readings for Next Week: Isaiah 50:5-9A; James 2:14-18; Mark 8:27-35

MAINTAINING THE MISSION AT NOTRE DAME RETREAT HOUSE

As a Redemptorist Ministry, the Notre Dame Retreat House was opened in 1967 in Canandaigua. Over several years, SJR Men’s Retreat has consistently sent an average of 80 – 90 men annually on Retreat at ND. SJR has also attracted a number of men from surrounding parishes to join the SJR Men’s group. Several SJR men con-tinue to attend for 40 + years; before he went to his heavenly home, we had one SJR man who attended over 60 retreats!!! SJR Men’s Retreat continues to be the only single organi-zation to “fill the house” at ND. WHAT DOES THAT SAY! Notre Dame, like many other Christian institutions, is in need of our financial support. One of these fund raising events is the 2015 Golf Tournament at MIDVALE COUN-TRY CLUB, Penfield, on Monday, September 28, 2015. Brochures will be available by contacting me and I will make certain to have one in your hands. Any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Tom Murphy, SJR Men’s Retreat Chairperson/ND Parish Leader, E-Mail – [email protected]

Our tithing recipient for September is Resolve of Greater Rochester, and our donation will fund awareness and prevention education for young people and adults. Resolve of Greater Rochester began as two separate organizations, Safe Journey, and Stand Up Guys. Both organizations make a greater difference in the fight to end violence against women. Safe Journey approaches the problem from an intervention perspective while Stand Up Guys starts from a prevention perspective, engaging men in conversations about the violence done to wom-en, by men. The two organizations merged in 2012. If you are interested in volunteering or donating to Resolve, please visit www. resolve-roc.org/Donate.html. Resolve is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, funded completely from private donations.

Rich also has a long and successful career in television broadcasting he can reflect on. The meal choice for the September meet-ing will be equally inspiring - Sam Trapa-ni's Italian feast, a perennial Men's Club favorite prepared by Sam and his group of helpers. The evening will begin at 6:00 pm with the social mixer, followed by the meal at 6:30 pm and then Senator Rich Funke's presentation. Please sign up for the event by Monday, September 14th by contacting John Wessely at 385-4869 or emailing Tom Vierhile at [email protected]. There is a $10 charge for the meal. LABOR DAY STATEMENT USCCB

This year’s Labor Day Statement, written by Archbishop Thomas Wenski, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Domestic Justice & Human Development, focuses on creating sufficient, decent work that honors the dignity of families. The state-ments points out the many young people are choosing not to start families because of the demands of their work and financial stress. Others who do have children strug-gle to support them on low wages and inadequate benefits. The statement re-minds us that our labor is one way that we participate with God in “the ongoing un-folding of creation.” Read the entire state-ment at http://uscbb.org/issues-and-action/ human-life-and-dignity/laboremployment/labor-day-statement-2015.cfm

Please contact Amy Voll at 248-5993 x 13.

Monday, 9/14—Noon—Barbara Hesenius—Gathering Room Tuesday, 9/15 —10:00am—Women’s Group—Gathering Room Wednesday, 9/16—7:00pm—Fr. Peter—Gathering Room

*FOR ALL GRADE K-5 PARENTS* I urge Grades K - 5 parents to send their children into the “Liturgy of the Word” during 9am or 10:30am Sunday Mass. While adults listen to the Scriptures and Homily, the children will listen and discuss the very same Mass Readings, but at their own intellectual and spiritual level. Doing this is far better for their faith development than remaining in the Church during that time.

Grades K-1 (Gorman Room) and Grades 2-5 (Gathering Room). Each have their own lessons designed for that age level. They learn about the Bible, Jesus, the Mass and their own early beliefs about our Christian God as a Holy Trinity of Persons. Worshipping at Mass with their family, combined with having spiritual lessons with their peers, provides the best overall experience for a child’s growing faith. Please involve your children in their own “Liturgy of the Word” at the 9:00 AM or 10:30 AM Sunday Mass. You are welcome to sit–in & watch. In fact, I invite you to become one of our Leaders this year! Blessings, Ms. Barbara Hesenius, Pastoral Associate

Religious Ed News For All Next weekend Religious Education Classes begin. I want to take this opportunity to welcome all of our families that will be involved in our program this year. There is still time to register if you have not done so. Our goal this year is to keep everyone informed of what is happening within the program. Parents are welcomed to join your children in the classroom at anytime. My weekly article will be one of the tools I used to keep the entire parish aware of what is happening in the classrooms. Along with the new year we are also introducing new text book. This series is call "Finding God" and is published by Loyo-la Press. We are to live our faith in our homes, at school, in our jobs and in the community. "Finding God" invites our youth and their families into a relationship with God in our families, parish and with our neighbors. "Finding God" is an integrated curriculum that spirals through the grades. The curriculum is as follows: Grade 1: God Found Everything Good-God and Creator; Grade 2: I am the True Vine - Eucharist & Reconciliation; Grade 3: Fishers of Men - Church & Holy Spirit; Grade 4: Blessed Are the Poor - Beatitudes & Ten Commandments; Grade 5: The Bread of Life - Sacraments & Worship; Grade 6: I Am Who Am - The Old Testament and Grade 7: This is My Beloved Son - Jesus Christ. Parents and parishioners, we can use your help. We are in need of teachers, as well as assistant teachers. Is there any part of the curriculum that interest you? What a beautiful way to show your children how to live out God's request that we become his disci-ples and spread the Good News. If you think your children aren't watching what you do, think again. Your children do watch you and do as you do, not necessarily what you say.

When You Thought I Wasn't Looking When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, & I immediately wanted to paint another. When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you feed a stray cat, and I learned that i t was good to be kind to animals. When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you make my favorite cake for me, and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life. When you thought I wasn't looking I heard you say a prayer, and I knew that there is a God I could always talk to and I learned to trust in Him. When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I learned that we all have to help take care of each other. When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it, & I learned we have to take care of what we are given. When you thought I wasn't looking I saw how you handled your responsibilities, even when you didn't feel good, and I learned that I would have to be responsible when I grow up. When you thought I wasn't looking I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry. When you thought that I wasn't looking I saw that you cared, and I wanted to be everything that I could be. When you thought I wasn't looking I learned most of life's lessons that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up. When you thought I wasn't looking I looked at you and wanted to say,' Thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn't looking.'

God bless, and have a great week! Judy

YOUTH MINISTRY—

To Know, Love, &

Serve God & Others!

YOU ARE CALLED!

How do you serve the church? John 13:14 is one of many places in the Bible that instructs us to serve one another. Je-sus tells us…“If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.”

Have you ever considered serving the young church? SJR Youth Ministry is looking for adults to join our CORE team. We need adults of any age to come forward and share their faith with the young church in Grades 6-12. Opportunities range from serving one Sunday evening a month to every Sunday night. Or you can simply serve for one of our special events. If you have any questions about serving, please contact Michelle at sjryouthministry @gmail.com. I look forward to
