Welcome to our final newsletter for the term. As the end of Semester One approaches, our school community proudly celebrates yet another wide array of events and activities. World’s Greatest Shave Many people within our community’s lives have been touched by cancer, with leukaemia being a cancer that often affects young people. I would like to commend the many brave students and staff who participated in the World’s Greatest Shave this year. Our school raised over $5000 for the Leukaemia Foundation. I know that this would not have been possible without the support of the many parents who consented to their child taking part, to help raise funds or personally donated to the cause. Thank you, I know that your support is instrumental to the success of our young people. I would also like to commend our amazing 2021 Student Leadership Team for their hard work and infectious enthusiasm. This team made the day a tremendous success. High School Experience Days For the last few years our school has been running high school experience days for students in our local primary schools. The purpose of these days is to immerse Year 6 students in life at our school for a day, and show them some of the wonderful opportunities that come along with being a high school student. We’re currently reviewing these days and would love to hear your thoughts or feedback about their effectiveness at preparing students for high school, and acting as a familiarisation program prior to our formal transition day later in the year. If you are interested in giving feedback, please email us at [email protected] so that we can get in touch with you to hear your thoughts. Beginner Band Blitz On Friday we were joined by primary school instrumental music students from across the local area for the Beginner Band Blitz. Our instrumental music teacher Mr Clancy-Jones did a wonderful job in the coordination of this hands-on learning opportunity for primary school music students. This event brings students from across the area together, so that they can learn from the collective expertise of a range of instrumental music teachers. The event was a wonderful showcase of the work Mr Clancy-Jones does within our local area to passionately promote the instrumental music program to local families. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr Clancy-Jones for once again being nominated for the Telstra ARIA Music Teacher Awards. Congratulations Mr Clancy-Jones, we look forward to supporting you in the upcoming stages of these awards! Interview to Impress We were once again privileged to be joined by industry professionals as part of the ABCN Interview to Impress program last week. This program involves professionals from the business sector joining our school to help students enhance their interview skills. The program often receives very high ratings from students, who enjoy the opportunity to learn more about the skills that will help them successfully secure a job. Beside is a summary of results from students, showing the significant impact that the program has on raising student’s confidence and understanding of the interview process. Some quotes from our students: “I learnt that posture is a big part of body language.” “Great environment and really kind people.” “I learnt the questions they ask and how to answer them correctly.” “I got to practice in a life like interview environment.” “I learnt confidence and the way you appear to people is important.” “I learnt how to be confident in interviews.” “It was really good.” “I learnt how to prepare for interviews.” “The feedback was useful as it helped me realise what I was doing wrong.” “Great workshop!” “I loved it!” “It is amazing.” “I learnt how to control my nerves.” “It was very helpful and I Bracken Ridge Matters Principal's Welcome Term 2, Week 9 | Tuesday 15 June 2021 68 Barfoot Street, Bracken Ridge QLD 4017 (07) 3869 7222 www.facebook.com/brackenridgeshs https://brackenridgeshs.eq.edu.au
