The following comes from the Bishop: “Dear Friends in Christ, Every October the Church in the United States cele-brates Respect Life Month, and the first Sunday of the month is observed as Respect Life Sunday. As Catho-lics, we are called to cherish, defend, and protect life, from the beginning to its natural end, and at every stage in between. This year the Church celebrates the 25th anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s landmark pro-life encyclical Evange-lium vitae (The Gospel of Life). This document passion-ately reaffirms the Church’s teaching on the value and sacredness of every human life and inspires this year’s Respect Life theme, “Live the Gospel of Life.” Gratitude and joy at the incomparable dignity of the hu-man person impel us to bring the Gospel of life to the hearts of all people and into every part of society. In every person we see the image of God's glory. Having received the gift of the Gospel of Life, we are a people of life and a people for life. I join with my brother bishops in inviting parishes to take part in an important initiative called “Walking with Moms in Need: A Year of Service” to serve pregnant and par-enting women who are in difficult circumstances. Well over 150,000 low-income mothers deliver their babies at Catholic hospitals each year, and tens of thousands of pregnant and parenting moms are helped each year through Catholic Charities programs and other agencies. In addition, thousands of pregnancy care and crisis cen-ters are staffed by Catholic volunteers. This is the Gos-pel of Life that we live as Catholics, but we need to do a better job of connecting moms with these resources. This year will provide the foundation we need to help us accomplish those efforts. Please let your pastor know if you would like to be involved in this effort at the dioce-san level. Thank you to our parishes, schools, institutions, and in-dividuals in the diocese for responding to the call to ac-tively live out the Gospel of Life, especially those that make respect life efforts a priority throughout the year. I invite you to visit the diocesan website for Respect Life Month resources and to learn more about the “Walking with Moms in Need” initiative. May our efforts be entrust-ed to the care of our Blessed Mother, the model for how life should be welcomed and cared for. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend David J. Walkowiak Bishop of Grand Rapids”

Bridge Learners Return

We welcome back our virtual learners on Monday, October 5th. It will be wonderful to have all of our students back on cam-pus.

Catholic schools are welcoming communities where each student feels safe, honored and celebrat-ed. Our mission is rooted in Christ who calls us to value and love all people.

You can make your CSA donation by credit card online by visiting our parish website. On the main page there is a link to the Diocese of Grand Rapids website, grdiocese.org. That link will tell you how to make your donation. Don’t forget to reference Blessed Sac-rament when filling out the form.

From the Diocese of Grand Rapids Catholic Cemeteries

GRAVE BLANKETS are NOT al-lowed at any of these 5 cemeteries.

REMINDER: Having come to the end of September it is the end of the first quarter in the Parish's fiscal year of 2020-2021. That means that it is time once again to distribute the funds in the Deacon George Social Justice Fund, i.e., the parish tithe to the poor. Given the situation with Covid-19 and the restrictions that we have faced in gathering together face to face, we are a couple of quarters behind in the distribution of the parish tithe, however we will get caught up on this before too long. If you would like to nominate a charita-ble organization to receive a grant please remember that the organiza-tion must be involved in the work of social justice and cannot be involved in any type of activity that is contrary to the teachings of or practices of the Roman Catholic Church. If you would like to make a nomination you may get the nominating form from the stewardship tower in the narthex of the church if you have been com-ing to Mass, or if not you can get the proper form from the parish web site or by contacting Lori in the parish office by telephone or by email and she can forward a copy of the nomi-nating form to you.
