NHCS Adopts Alert NowNHCS Adopts Alert NowAlert Now was adopted in 2000.The New Hanover County School Crisis
Management and Response Team previewed Alert Now at a State Safety Conference. This team purchased Alert Now initially for use during a school specific crisis or school wide crisis.
In 2007, School Principals were trained on Alert Now to send messages.

Schools use Alert Now to notify parents:◦ School Functions
◦ Health Concerns◦ School Bus delays◦ End of Course/End of Grade Testing◦ Safety/Security Issues◦ Attendance
NHCS uses Alert Now to notify parents of district-wide emergency closings, delays or district wide events.
Attendance CallsTwo attendance calls are sent daily via Alert Now
Safety Call◦ Every morning between 9:00 a.m.– 10:00 a.m.
All schools except PLC and Early College HS
After School Call◦ Middle and high schools send this
call out daily to students who have missed all or part of the day
Attendance calls have evolved since implementation:
Safety Call◦ Now uses multiple language feature◦ Text to Speech feature to include child’s name
Afternoon Call ◦ Text to Speech feature to include child’s
name, date and which period(s) were missed during the day
