Ice-cube productionThis appliance is equipped with two traysfor the production of ice-cubes.1. Fill the trays with water.2. Put the trays in the freezer compart-

mentImportant! Do not use metallic instrumentsto remove the tray from the freezer.

Helpful hints and tipsHints for energy saving• Do not open the door frequently or leave

it open longer than absolutely necessary.• If the ambient temperature is high, the

temperature regulator is on the highersetting and the appliance is fully loaded, the compressor may run continuously, causing frost or ice on the evaporator. Ifthis happens, turn the temperature regu-lator toward lower settings to allow auto-matic defrosting and so a saving in elec-tricity consumption.

Hints for fresh food refrigerationTo obtain the best performance:• Do not store warm food or evaporating

liquids in the refrigerator.• Do cover or wrap the food, particularly if

it has a strong flavour.• Position food so that air can circulate

freely around it.Hints for refrigeration• Meat (all types) : wrap in polythene bags

and place on the glass shelf above thevegetable drawer. For safety, store in this way only one ortwo days at the most.

• Cooked foods, cold dishes, etc.: theseshould be covered and may be placedon any shelf.

• Fruit and vegetables: these should bethoroughly cleaned and placed in thedrawer.

• Butter and cheese: these should beplaced in special airtight containers orwrapped in aluminium foil or polythenebags to exclude as much air as possible.

• Milk bottles: these should have a cap andshould be stored in the bottle rack on thedoor.

• Bananas, potatoes, onions and garlic: ifnot packed, must not be kept in the re-frigerator.

Hints for freezingTo help you make the most of the freezingprocess, here are some hints:• The maximum quantity of food which can

be frozen in 24 hours is shown on the rat-ing plate.

• The freezing process takes 24 hours. Nofurther food to be frozen should be add-ed during this period.

• Freeze only top quality, fresh and thor-oughly cleaned foodstuffs.

• Prepare food in small portions to enableit to be rapidly and completely frozenand to make it possible subsequently tothaw only the quantity required.

• Wrap up the food in aluminium foil orpolythene and make sure that the pack-ages are airtight.

• Do not allow fresh, unfrozen food totouch food which is already frozen, thusavoiding a rise in temperature of the lat-ter.

• Lean foods store better and longer thanfatty ones; salt reduces the storage life offood.

• Water ices, if consumed immediately af-ter removal from the freezer compart-ment, can possibly cause the skin to befreeze burnt.

ENGLISH 11

Page 12: BITANDE GB - IKEA

• It is advisable to show the freezing indate on each individual pack to enableyou to keep tab of the storage time.

Hints for storage of frozen foodTo obtain the best performance from thisappliance, you should:• Make sure that the commercially frozen

foodstuffs were adequately stored by theretailer.

• Make sure that frozen foodstuffs aretransferred from the foodstore to thefreezer in the shortest possible time.

• Do not open the door frequently or leaveit open longer than absolutely necessary.

• Once defrosted, food deteriorates rapid-ly and cannot be refrozen.

• Do not exceed the storage period indica-ted by the food manufacturer.

For thisreason it is recommended that the outercasing of this appliance is only cleaned withwarm water with a little washing-up liquidadded. After cleaning, reconnect the equipment tothe mains supply.Defrosting of the refrigeratorFrost is automaticallyeliminated from theevaporator of the re-frigerator compart-ment every time themotor compressorstops, during normaluse. The defrost wa-ter drains outthrough a trough intoa special container at the back of the appli-ance, over the motor compressor, where itevaporates. It is important to periodically clean the de-frost water drain hole in the middle of therefrigerator compartment channel to pre-vent the water overflowing and drippingonto the food inside. Use the special clean-er provided, which you will find already in-serted into the drain hole.No defrosting of the freezerThe freezer compartment of this model, onthe other hand, is a "no frost" type. Thismeans that there is no buildup of frost whenit is in operation, neither on the internalwalls nor on the foods.

ENGLISH 12

Page 13: BITANDE GB - IKEA

The absence of frost is due to the continuouscirculation of cold air inside the compart-ment, driven by an automatically controlledfan.Periods of non-operationWhen the appliance is not in use for longperiods, take the following precautions:1. Disconnect the appliance from electrici-

ty supply.2. Remove all food.

3. Defrost, if foreseen4. Clean the appliance and all accesso-
