DEPUTY’S CORNER

This week every family should have received a Medical Informa-tion Update form via your child’s red folder. It is really important for the school to have the latest and most up to date information about your child’s health so that we can support them at school. If you have any questions in relation to this form, please do not hesitate to contact either your child’s teacher or the front office for more information.Free Holiday IdeasI am always on the lookout for new and interesting ideas for the school holiday break for families. A few new experi-ences I came across recently were the Natures Play Cubby House Day and the Australian Geographic Citizen Science project titled, “The Feather Map of Aus-tralia”.

Nature’s Play

Nature's Play is hosting it's “Cubby Town 2!” over two days, Thursday 21st July and Friday 22nd July from 10am – 3pm. The

Cubby Town event will be held at Belair national Park. For all details, please visit www.naturesplaysa.org.au/events

National Geographic “The Feather Map of Australia” Citizen Science Project

The website writes, “Researchers are asking members of the public to collect and send in waterbird feathers to be analysed, in order to collect crucial in-formation about the nutritional ecology and habitats of birds.

Feathers collected by citizen scientists will be analysed using special nucle-ar science techniques, such as mass spectrometry and high resolution X-ray fluorescence.

The project, run by the Australian Nucle-ar Science and Technology Organisation and the University of New South Wales, is an Australian-first and provides a new, non-invasive method for tracking water-birds without the need for their capture.”

So how do we take part?

All you need to do is to visit a local wet-land environment (such as St Kilda, River Torrens or the Murray River to name but a few) and collect any feathers you may find on the ground or in the water. Place them into an envelope that includes

From The Deputythe details of where they were collected (which is a very important to include) and what type of bird, if known. Send the envelope to:

On Friday the 24th of June, the clouds disappeared and the sun shone upon our day.The Reception classes got to experi-ence a fun filled day with many new experiences. We explored how bread and milk is made and produced, made butter from cream, ate delicious damper,

played with some cute and inquisitive animals and topped it off with a Barn Dance with our parents and Grandpar-ents. Thank you to everyone for making the effort to dress up on the day and to some our brave students for interacting with their first farm animals. It was a wonderful day exploring Gods creatures great and small.
