DEPUTY’S CORNER

Welcome back for another week! This week is a particularly big week especially for the Year 6’s who have gone on their camp to Wirraway. The camp is always a huge success and I am looking forward to hearing all about their experi-ences when they return on Wednesday.

Car Park RemindersA huge ‘Thank You’ to all of the parents who are diligently following the road rules in and around our school and who are showing courtesy to our surround-ing neighbours. It is appreciated and certainly noticeable as the turning circle in the afternoon has been running as efficiently as it can each day.

Just a quick reminder to all parents that the parking provided at the Goodstart Childcare Centre is strictly provided for the clientele of the childcare. Bethany Christian School parents are kindly asked to find an alternative parking place when dropping off or picking up their children from Bethany.

In addition to that reminder, Temple Christian College have also noticed parents trying to turn left into the school carpark between the hours of 8am-9am and 2.30pm-3.30pm. This actually caus-es problems for people abiding by the rules, effectively preventing them from turning right and causing tension.

Please remember that should a police officer catch a driver turning left during the ‘no left turn’ periods of the day a hefty fine will be issued. Do not let it be you!

Chapel CancelledOn Thursday our Year 3-6 students have the privilege of attending a matinee viewing of Temple Christian College’s “Camp Rock” musical. As the Performing Arts Centre will be all set up for the per-formances, there will be no Chapel held in Week 3. If your child earns a Happy Step award, they will receive it in Week 4.

If you are interested in attending the musical, check out Temple Christian College’s website (http://www.tcc.sa.edu.au/campus-be/) for further details.

I wish you all a wonderful week!

God bless you

Greetings, Bethany Community.

Firstly, I want to thank you all, for the amazing send off you gave me on my retirement at the end of last year. It was a privilege to serve at Bethany and you have given me many more fond memo-ries.

When I spoke at the last Chapel, I talked about how having God live in us is no guarantee that things will go smoothly. I also said that while I have no idea what my future holds, I know Who holds my future.

I didn’t know what was in store for me, and those words became quite prophet-ic in my life. Ten days after retiring, I was diagnosed with Early Breast Cancer. To say it was a shock is an understatement. I had no clue that this was happening in my body and I thank God, for Mammo-grams and early detection.

As I was having my tests, a few days before Christmas, God put a song in my mind, which has become very real to me. It is one that we sing in Chapel, and is called “Sovereign” by Chris Tomlin. Some of the words are:

Sovereign in the mountain airSovereign on the ocean floorWith me in the calmWith me in the stormSovereign in my greatest joySovereign In my deepest cryWith me in the darkWith me at the dawnIn your everlasting armAll the pieces of my lifeFrom beginning to the end

I can trust youIn your never failing loveYou work everything for goodGod, whatever comes my wayI will trust you

My journey through surgery and now Hormone Therapy has had its ups and downs. I am human, but always, I have been very aware of God’s presence, and His love and care towards me. Because the cancer was found early, I do not have to go through either Chemo or Radio Therapy. I am very grateful for that.

In January 2015, my husband and I went to Canberra, to support our foster daughter, Rebekah, who was undergo-ing Chemotherapy for a recurrence of Breast Cancer. On our way home, we stopped at Bright, Victoria, for a couple of nights. I took a picture of the Ovens River there, that encapsulated “with me in the calm, with me in the storm”, for Rebekah.

This picture has become my picture. We never know when life will throw us an unexpected tragedy. We can be assured, however, that when we put our trust in God, He will be there with us. I use this as a bookmark and see it daily.

I have printed some copies of this pic-ture and left them at the front office. If you would like a copy, please ask there. If there is none left when you get there, leave your name and I will print more.

I am currently enjoying my retirement, and hope to see you around this term!

Parents & Friends

Fundraising GoalsThis year, the P&F team is working towards raising funds for several exciting play-rich projects:

• Shade for the upper primary play ground

• Unstructured outdoor spaces for nature play

• Play-based equipment for our new ELC

Also, moved by compassion, we will share some of our fundraising dollars with House of Hope in Indonesia. As we create, build and purchase play-rich spaces here at Bethany, we want to share that same opportunity with the precious students at our sister school in rural Sumatra.

Mother’s DayThank you for the wonderful support of our Mother’s Day stall this term. We loved the privilege of offering your child a fun, fresh shopping experience right here at school. We hope that the delight on their faces when selecting a gift was matched in the homes they were presented at!

As we gratefully receive, we seek to bless others.

2016 CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS On Thursday 7th April, Bethany held their Cross Country Championships. The weather was perfect and our students from year two to six all competed, most with the incentive of the fun run fundraiser that went with this event. The students ran different length of races throughout the day (1km, 2km or 3km) depending upon their age.

We very grateful to our volunteer parents who made the day a true success helping the students stay on course and encouraging them as they went by. Thank you to Leah Maguire, Anne Depares, Lee Cox, Melissa Etherton, Matthew Slack and Kathryn Ebert for marshalling throughout the day. We would also like to thank Tracey Horn, Shelley Howard, Abby-Jane Penaluna and Amber Walsh for looking after the results desk. Many thanks also goes to Peter Wyten for starting the races and assisting with marshalling, Naomi Bassham for being the official photog-rapher and finally to Peter Wyten and Peter Kutzner for help with the set up and pack down of the bunting on the school oval. Our teachers were fantastic as usual and we appreciated them.

There were many supporters of parents, family and friends who came out to cheer the students on. Thank you so much for coming out on the day.

Final House Points for the day were as follows:
