Dr Yong Zhao suggested that those involved in the Rudolph Group look at the way High Tech High organ- ise their schools. The focus on human centred design, seeks to help all students to discover their strengths and learn to really think about what they are learning, producing authentic products for others. It certainly aligns with our desire at Bethany to see every student reach their potential through working with others and for others. Next Friday 9 th June is our Pupil Free Day and I will use that time to teach our staff more about Design Thinking and see how we can continue to grow our understanding in this area. Camp Australia is open for OSHC on this Pupil Free day from 6.30am. Please book in if you would like your child to be cared for at school next Friday. Follow the links on our website for details. This is then followed by a public holiday Monday 12 th June. On Monday 5 th June is our AGM, we pres- ent our work as a school from last year, all are welcome to attend. Our new drop off from Byron Bay Drive is now open! We are still waiting on the final gate to be ready but have decided to begin using the road and carpark. Please refer to the map if you are unsure of entrances and exits. The roundabout is an exit only, so please do not enter the carpark from the roundabout. You will also see that the new grass has been laid for the soccer oval. This is shared between the Salisbury Council and Temple Christian College. The grass will take some time to grow before it can be used to make sure that it survives. We look forward to the way this will make more space available for our Temple CC friends. We held a Principal’s Tour as well as our first ELC tour for those families starting in Reception 2018. We are very proud of our new Centre and I look forward to showing new families the facilities and explain the educational program that we run. Ms Emily McCann and her team are doing a fantastic job in creating a calm, creative, fun learning environment. I hope that as we head towards a long weekend, you and your children will take the opportunity to be refreshed and ready to head in to the second half of the term. God bless, Wendy Matear Principal Welcome to our Week 5 Newsletter. This term is progressing well with many learning opportunities happening in our classrooms. We have continued to work with the Rudolph group and I am very excited to see how our students are flourishing as they explore their cre- ativity and improve in skills at the same time. In April, I was invited to share our Rudolph Group work at a conference in Honolulu. It is exciting to think that an Independent Primary School in Paralow- ie South Australia, is sharing with others internationally, what we are learning.

Deputy's Cornerpark, please make sure that you es-cort your children across the car park to the nearest provided footpath to keep them safe. Remember, cars will be driving through the car park to exit onto Byron Bay Drive.

• Encourage your children to only walk on the footpaths provided. For their safety, please do not let them walk through the car park traffic to get ac-cess to the pedestrian gate.

• Students who are to be dropped off only must use the Kiss ‘n’ Drop lane. Please do not pull over in the car park to drop off your child at the pedestrian gate or at the Byron Bay Drive car park exit. The drop-off bay is really long and wide, so there is plenty of room to negotiate the drop off.

• Explicitly tell your child which car park you will pick your child up from. If you are worried that your child might get confused, write their teacher a short note so that your child’s teacher can remind them where they are being

Colds and Flus

I trust that you are all managing to keep warm with the onset of cooler weather. As is expected at this time of year, the colds and sore throats have begun. Please re-mind your children to wear weather ap-propriate clothing to protect them from the cold and encourage them to observe hygienic practices such as using and dis-posing of tissues cleanly, washing their hands regularly but especially after using the toilet or before eating and to keep a healthy diet and a healthy sleeping rou-tine at home.

Bethany’s New Kiss ‘n’ Drop

The new Kiss ‘n’ Drop is now open and op-erational! Some points to keep in mind when using the new road are;

• There is a 10 km/hr speed limit at all times while driving on the school site. Please keep your speed low for the safety of all students using the back car park.

• If you choose to park in our rear car

picked up from after school.

Police Traffic Patrol

After a number of complaints about the existing traffic concerns from both our school community and our neighbours, our Community Liaison Police Officer will be patrolling our school zone next week. Remember, if you do have any concerns about traffic or another driver, you can ring SAPOL and make a traffic report by calling 13 14 44. Remember, the school has no jurisdiction outside of the school site and any concerns brought to us are forwarded to SAPOL. If you are concerned with parking issues, you will need to contact the Salisbury Council.

I wish you a safe, warm and healthy week.

God bless you,

Deb Clifford

Book Fair

Heads up guys!

On Weeks 6-7 this term, the library will be displaying a great selection of reasonably priced books in an advance celebration of Book Week.

Money raised will go towards the purchasing of more library books for our library and equipment for

the school. A percentage of proceeds will also be donated to the House of Hope School for them to build a library.

Help your children save up money in advance so they can get the books they want when the fair arrives.

Koorong (June 5th—8th)

Scholastic (June 13th –20th) The fair will be open before school, after school and during lunch

on these days. Hope to see you there!

2017 Para Districts and South Australian Metropolitan Swimming Championships

Bethany Christian School Representatives:

Angel De Leon, Anirudh Iyer, Chloe Hudson, Fiona Chhen, Jasmine Young, Lele Roesler, Maddy Etherton, Nina Kiflu, Redeate Kiflu, Tina Samanjeyese & Trishan Prasad.

During term one, eleven of our Bethany students attended the district swimming carnival at the Salisbury Swimming Centre. All eleven swam very well with some outstanding results amongst them. As a result we had students selected into the Para District team to compete at the SA Metro State Championships.

The SA Metro State Championships was held on Thursday 16th March at the SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre.

We would like to congratulate Jasmine Young, Maddy Etherton & Anirudh Iyer who represented Para Districts at the above championships.

Anirudh competed in the 11 year old boys 50m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke events.

Maddy competed in the 12 year old girls 50m freestyle, butterfly and backstroke events.

Jasmine competed in the 10 year old girls 50m freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly events.

Our highest placed individual at these championships was Jasmine Young who won two gold medals in the freestyle and breaststroke events along with a silver medal in the butterfly. This outstanding achievement has been acknowledged by Jasmine’s selection into the SAPSASA – Primary School Sport Swimming Team which will compete at the Pacific School Games from the 2nd to 9th December, 2017 in Adelaide. This is a fantastic achievement. Well done Jasmine.
