Our Year 5 students have returned from an awesome adventure at Illawonga. They were blessed with great weather and had a lot of fun together. Our Reception students will join us on Wednesday’s for the rest of the year. They have been transitioning well to the different experience of school. At the end of this Term, we hold our Parent Teacher Interviews. The interviews are only in 10 minute blocks and give an overview of your child’s progress. We will send an email later this term asking you to book in a time. Please feel free to make another time to catch up with your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns at any time throughout the year. Monday is a public holiday and so there is a long weekend this weekend. I would encourage you to make the most of this opportunity to spend some quality time with your family and to also have some time to rest in preparation for the cooler weather. Our health is fundamental to learning and good sleep patterns really help us to avoid sickness as the weather changes. Our Reception and Year 1 students have swimming lessons in the last week of this term. Please spend some time preparing your child if they are not used to changing in and out of their bathers. Independence is something children can be encouraged to learn as they try new experiences at school. Giving children time to practice is an important part of learning new things. The new building is moving along really well. The students have enjoyed seeing footage of the process so far through a time-lapse camera. We are very keen to give them the opportunity to see how construction progresses and the importance of good foundations for a strong structure. Some of our Media Team have also been making films about the process and I look forward to viewing those. Our Year 6 students are showing some great initiatives in a number of areas in our school. These include the media team, as well as other leadership and interest roles. Our desire is that all students have the opportunity to learn about their individual strengths, in order to find ways to contribute as citizens, for the benefit of others. Year 5 Camp - Ambassadors of Great Character

This week the Year 5’s have been on an amazing camp to Illawonga, which is located near the Murray River. Adventure, water sports and play were high on the agenda as 76 children took up challenges, worked together and built relationships all whilst having a whole lot of fun! Combining that many children together, all with different needs, can be a challenge. The children are to be commended as a strong sense of respect was present and strong relationships were built both with other students, teachers and campsite leaders.

• Imagine if our school was a welcoming place where all connected humans would flourish. A place where right relationships were honoured and respect was a bi-product of love, forgiveness and grace.

The children enjoyed a variety of activities such as kayaking, swimming, boating, knee-boarding, paddle boating, archery, gymnastics, history museum and caving which included fossil hunting. For many children this was their first experience of these types of activities. The teachers were so proud of students as they challenged themselves and took on new learning opportunities. Some children overcame significant fears and genuinely rose in confidence and leadership, demonstrating a growth mindset. Some children shone because of their genuine servant’s heart to help others and take on extra camp duties. Some children shone as they connected with children who may have felt lonely, homesick or scared becoming great encouragers of others.

• Imagine if all humans understood the value, beauty and

wonder of God and His creation so much so that our school would be the forerunner for good stewardship, care and reflection.

An acappella singing moment spontaneously erupted one evening. The teachers and children all joined in together singing Glorious Day, a song that they sing in Chapel. The campsite staff were amazed at how joyous the children were and how they all joined in together. They said they have never seen anything like that before. They even asked them to do it again so other staff there could enjoy it.

• Imagine if God was central to our learning and in our thinking, designing and making we were reflectors of His image.

It was said that our group of children is one of the largest groups that attend this camp and other much smaller groups have asked “Wow how does that go?” The Bethany children who have now attended this camp for 8 years have a reputation of being one of the best groups to attend the camp due to the way they respect the staff, teachers and environment around them. I love it when what you write in a static document is the true reality in the lives of our children. To see curriculum and all they learn come alive in life. To me this is true human flourishing, fuelled by reflecting the character of God. Congratulations Year 5’s not only did you have an awesome time - you touched the lives of others!

Year 5 Camp

On Monday week five, the year 5’s left for Illawonga Camp near Swan Reach. It was about one and a half hours drive. All the students were very excited and couldn’t wait for this adventure to begin. When we arrived we found out where we would be sleeping and then we had lunch which was pizza. After that we went down to the Murray River were we got to swim, kneeboard and ride paddle boats with water cannons. On the kneeboard I felt proud when I did not fall off the board. It was lots of fun and I wanted to do it again. Later that night we participated in some karaoke and gym and then we went to bed. On day 2 we were split into three groups to do three activities which we did two of those activities on that day. Those activities were caving, gym and archery in the morning, followed by a boat tour and kayaking in the afternoon. The boat tour was exciting especially when it went fast that we had water spraying on our faces. The archery and the gym was awesome but challenging as we got to try the uneven bars, foam pit, trampoline, rings and more. We also went to a History Museum at Swan Reach and a sheep shearing show where we learn’t about sheep and how to shear them. We even got to crack a whip, which was scary and very exciting. On the last day we had one last activity to do which was a cave tour, 200 metres into a cave. That was amazing, climbing through and over small spot, and big rocks to find fossils. Overall we had such an excellent and awesome experience at Illawonga Camp near Swan Reach.Hayley 5T

Year 5 camp was a great camp and gave us the best experience to learn new things. I liked all of the activities and I wanted to stay there so much longer. On our first day we went down to the river and went swimming, paddle boating and knee boarding. My favourite activity was knee boarding and it was the best experience I’ve ever had because it felt like I was lifting off the ground and at some points it was flat and it was very easy. On paddle boating it was lots of fun and we got to shoot each other with water guns. Swimming was pretty cool but when you touched the bottom there was sloppy clay everywhere. On the first night after dinner we did gym. The gym was really fun because we did 7 different activities uneven bars, the big trampoline, the small trampoline and the bar.The food was decent but the tent I was sleeping in was freezing so I had to go sleep in the big tent. It got really cold at night but was very hot during the day. The first thing I did was caving, then I did the boat tour which was really fast, then we did kayaking. Kayaking was really fun because it was challenging and hard.Overall we all had a great time!Josiah 5T
