NAPLAN week can be a little bit scary and challenging but you’ve all tried your very best. We want you to know that these tests do not always assess all of what it is that make each of you special and unique. The people who create these tests and score them do not know each of you, not the way your teachers do and certainly not the way your families do. They do not know that many of you speak more than one language. They do not know that you can play a musical instrument or that you can dance or paint a picture. They do not know that your friends count on you to be there for them or that your laughter can brighten the dreariest day. They do not know that you write poetry or songs, play or participate in sports, wonder about the future, or that sometimes you take care of your little brother or sister before and after school. They do not know that you have travelled to a really cool place or that you know how to tell a great story or that you really love spending time with special family members and friends. They do not know that you can be trustworthy, kind or thoughtful, and that you try, every day, to be your very best. The scores you get will tell you something, but they will not tell you everything. So enjoy your results and be very proud of these but remember there are many ways of being smart. Yours sincerely, Bethany Teachers (Adapted from Rachel Tomlinson, Principal of Bar- rowford Primary School, Lancashire, UK, 2014) Let us not forget that Bethany was identified as a school, “having demonstrated substantially above average gain in NAPLAN results” (ACARA, 2016). ACARA’s full statement was, ”I am pleased to advise that ACARA has identified your school as having demonstrated substantially above average gain in NAPLAN results. On behalf of ACARA, I would like to extend my congratulations to you and your school community on this achievement. Gains of this magnitude are significant and worthy of highlighting and acknowledgement.” This is due to the effort made by all teachers and students working and learning together. Ultimately, regardless of what scores come back, we know and appreciate each and every one of our students. God bless you all, Deb Clifford Deputy Principal Welcome back for Term 2! I trust you all had a wonderful, safe school break. Next week the NAPLAN tests will be held Australia-wide. Some students will find the whole process a bit daunting. Dear Bethany Students,

We are really proud of you all this week.

They do not know that you can be trustworthy, kind or thoughtful, and that you try, every day, to

be your very best. The scores you get will tell you something, but they will not tell you everything.

So enjoy your results and be very proud of these but remember there are many ways of being smart.

Yours sincerely,

Bethany Teachers

(Adapted from Rachel Tomlinson, Principal of Bar-rowford Primary School, Lancashire, UK, 2014)

Let us not forget that Bethany was identified as a school, “having demonstrated substantially above average gain in NAPLAN results” (ACARA, 2016).

God bless you all,

Deb Clifford

Deputy Principal

Welcome back for Term 2! I trust you all had a wonderful, safe school break.Next week the NAPLAN tests will be held Australia-wide. Some students will find the whole process a bit daunting.

Parents can help by listening to your child’s concerns and reassuring helps with their concerns. Last year I found a lovely letter sent by a teacher to her stu-dents in the UK. It was originally written in 1999 by an American teacher, Mary

TERM 2 HIGHLIGHTS

Free English Classes

Autumn Fair

School Photos

This year we will continue with the Free English classes. The times are 2:30pm to 3:30pm every Tuesday of term. Par-ents meet in the ESL Room (babies & pre-schoolers welcome). School age children meet in Miss Heida’s (6H) room after last bell & will be collected by parents at the end of the English class. Certificates will be awarded to each participant at the end of the year. The classes are fun, friendly & free. New class members are very welcome. Please con-tact Monika Heida at [email protected] or 8283 0000.

Our Autumn Fair was a huge success this year. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the event. We would like to congratulate Monika Heida and the team from the P & F who worked tireless-ly to make this year’s Fair one of the best ever.

School photos this year will be taken on Thursday, 26th of May (week 4). Your child will receive an individualised enve-lope with instructions this week. Please let your child’s teacher know if you do not receive an envelope.

Please remember: Do not seal enve-lopes inside each other. You can pay for all children in one envelope but each child needs to have their own enve-lope on photo day. Family envelopes are available at the school office upon request. Please enclose correct money as no change is given – cash, cheques and money orders only. Credit card pay-ments can only be made online.

Mother’s Day Stall

Mother’s Day! This week, the P&F will have a range of lovely Mother’s Day gifts available for students to purchase and give to the special mums, grandmas, nannas etc. in their lives. Please note that stocks are limited, but every effort is made to facilitate fair shopping. All classes will be allocated a time to browse and buy. Sorry no rain checks. If needed, money can be cared for by your child’s teacher until shopping time. When: Thursday 5th & Friday 6th May (Term 2, Week 1)

Where: The Old Library – look for the pink balloons!

Prices: from 50c to $12
