Shifts in Economic Power

• Information & support

• Course Search• Apply• Track

The  world  is  witnessing  the  biggest  shift  in  economic  strength for  more  than  a  century.    Within  a  decade,  the  developed  industrial  economies  of  today  will  be  dwarfed  by  newly  emerging  economic  giants.

Within  a  generation,  China  will  overtake  the  US  as  the  world’s  biggest  economy.    Many  of  the  top  15  economic  performers  will  be  from  today’s  rapidly  developing  economies.

The  emergence  of  the  BRIC  countries  will  transform  economics.    How  we  mentally  map  the  world  in  2020  will  render  obsolete  the  old  categories  of  ‘developed’  and  ‘developing’.    Globalization  will  be  a  ‘mega-trend’.    Multinationals  will  be  increasingly  outside  the  control  of  any  single  state  and  will  be  key  agents  in  integrating  the  world  economy  and  promoting  economic  progress.    While  North  America,  Japan,  and  Europe  might  collectively  continue  to  dominate  international  political  and  financial  institutions,  globalization  will  take  on  an  increasingly  ‘non-Western’,  ‘rising  Asia’  character. National  Intelligence  Council's  2020  Project

Developing Global Graduates

• Information & support

• Course Search• Apply• Track

“Against  a  background  of  continuing  globalisation  and  technological  change,  employers  need  graduates  who  can  compete  in  global  marketplaces.    Economic  and  technological  change  is  facilitating  an  internationalisation  and  de-territorialisation  of  business,  with  many  companies,  large  and  small,  having  international  operations  and  international  recruitment  patterns.    As  employers’  requirements  for  their  global  workforce  change,  graduates  – and  providers  of  higher  education  – must  adapt  to  prosper”.

Employability in the 21st century

Nearly half of Graduate recruiters expect to face difficulties in fulfilling recruitment objectives, due to a lack of applicants with the right skills.

Employers are looking for graduates who can demonstrate softer skills, such as team working, cultural awareness, leadership and communication skills, as well as academic achievement.
