A reminder to parents please do not park in the driveway of houses around our school. We have been

contacted by residents who are looking at taking further action if parents continue to park in their driveways.

2020 PREP ENROLMENTS & FAMILY INTENTIONS

If you know of any families who are yet to enrol their child for Prep in 2020 can you please encourage them

to return their forms ASAP. We are also asking current families who know they won’t be attending Axedale

PS next year to let Katrina know ASAP for planning purposes.

CURRICULUM DAY – Wednesday 20th November

As proposed there will be a Curriculum Day (student free day) for staff professional development on

Wednesday 20th November. This date has now been approved by School Council. The focus for the day will

be Literacy across the whole school.

MELBOURNE CUP DAY

On Tuesday we held our Melbourne Cup Activity Afternoon. Congratulations to Ms Bingham’s class for their

enthusiasm and effort in organising and running the activities. Students across the school enjoyed participating

in the wide variety of activities and working with students from different year levels. Thanks also to Mr C and

Ms Bingham for helping the senior students prepare, set up and run the afternoon. Thank you to those parents

who were able to join us for a picnic lunch.

DENTAL CHECKS

The dental checks which were postponed earlier in the year have been rescheduled. This is a follow up to

visits last year and will check on fluoride treatment received at that time. The visit will occur on Monday 25th

and Tuesday 26th November. A permission form was sent home last week.

SCHOOL COLOUR FUN RUN

Unfortunately, due to the weather, we had to cancel our Colour Fun Run last week. We were hoping to do the

Colour Run tomorrow, but we will need to postpone again due to the forecast of cold weather, wind and

possible rain. The new date for our Colour Fun Run will be next Wednesday 13th November, third time lucky!

Can we ask in the meantime that students who have collected cash donations bring these into school. This way

we will be as organised as we can be to start ordering any prizes, we are unable to start this process until all

cash money is accounted for.

On the day students need a plain white t-shirt to wear. Please see the map below which details where the run

will be taking place.

Students will need to bring a hat and drink bottle with them for the run.

We have until Thursday 14th November for money to be bought into school. If you are not wanting to receive

any prizes then please bring your money raised into school and let Katrina or Rylie know. We will add the

entire amount to our total.

Student prizes won’t be available for ordering online until all money has been collected.

We have a goal to raise $9,000 to go towards the roof over our basketball court. We are asking families to

create an online account. Even if you are only collecting cash donations the online account can be used to

track these and will be added to our ongoing tally and then when it comes time to redeem awards this is also

the site where this is completed. Thanks for your support. If families need help setting up an online account

please see Miss Gloury.

We are also approaching businesses for sponsorship support. A flyer is available from the office if you know

of a business who might like to be involved.

So far our online fundraising totals are:

Prep $ 845.87

Gr 1/2 $1,302.96

Gr 2/3 $1,659.27

Gr 3/4 $ 717.60

Gr 4/5 $2,309.95

Gr 5/6 $ 253.45

TOTAL $7,089.10

NETSET NETBALL

Thank you to those students who have shown interest in being involved in NetSet netball. Unfortunately we

CLASSROOMS

PREP/1 MELBOURNE CUP DAY

On Tuesday the Prep/1 held their annual Axedale Cup. We have

some very speedy students. Peyton was the fastest girl. Hudson

and Baxter the fastest boys by a photo finish and Hudson was the

supreme champ. We had a great day.

BUDDIES

On Monday the Prep/1 and 5/6 Buddies met to play board games.

The 5/6 students outlined the rules and the aim of the game

before playing with the younger students. Next time we meet we

are going to make our own games with a mini-beast theme.

ONE DAY IN 5: JOIN THE RIDE

Grade 3/4 and 4/5 students are currently participating in a 4-week project

about riding and walking to school called One Day in 5 – Join the Ride.

During the project, students will explore the pros and cons of driving vs

riding or walking to school – from both a practical and sustainability

perspective. They will discuss barriers to active travel and how they

could overcome some of these, learn about safe travel behaviour,

identify appropriate walking and cycling routes, go on an excursion to

trial the identified routes, and give a presentation about the project at

assembly on Monday 18th November.

Families of these students have also been invited to complete a survey and have input into identifying the best

ways for students to ride or walk to school, including the best drop-off points so that students who live too far

away can also have a chance to walk or ride part way to school. Families with students in other grades are

welcome to have input as well: please send comments or queries to [email protected].

Axedale Primary is one of three Bendigo primary schools selected to participate in the project, which is funded

by the TAC Towards Zero Community Grants Program and delivered by active travel expert Nicola

Dunnicliff-Wells for the City of Greater Bendigo. Please contact Nicola with any questions or comments about

the project: [email protected].

Here’s a snippet of student responses to why we might ride to school: “you get fitter and stronger, you see

things you miss in a car - like nature, you feel more alive, your car lasts longer, it’s good for the environment,

cars and buses burn fossil fuels,” and of course, “It’s fun!”

MOBILE PHONE RECYCLING

Axedale Primary School is a keen supporter of Zoos Victoria mobile phone recycling complain.

They're calling you aims to raise awareness of the threats gorillas face from mining while raising money to

support primate conservation and divert phones from landfill.

All smart phones, mobile phones, tablets and accessories such as chargers in ANY condition are accepted.

To protect data, it is recommended to conduct a factory reset before donating your phone.

Let's support endangered species programs and donate any phones that are hanging around your house.....they

are full of heavy metals that can be recycled!! The phone collection tub is located across from the school office

on the sports memorabilia display area.

Thanks
