    Ramadan Kareem

Fellow Indians, I am saluting Mother India for the wonderfulIndependence Day. Hundreds and thousands have jumped intothe struggle over 200 years to get India Independent. Werededicate our energies to build India and respect the culturesand values.

This festive season everyone in Asia, Africa, and Europe is fullof motivation to fulfill the family needs and joy that thefestival gives to the family

The current phase of nonpayment from various authorities is aNational phenomenon. Every contracting company is facing thesame situation since April, 2010 this phase of non-payment isonly due some bad players in the field and not fund availabilitywith Government. I wish to add that Libya is having over 90Billion $ of foreign reserve apart from ranking second in goldreserve in African Countries.

I would see this phase of uncertainty is purely a business cycle, where we are in down the peddle. No need to be panic, we aregeared up for the events to unfold in the coming months.

Many a leading business enterprises in this country are stilllearning how to cope this minus budgeting techniques. Let me

detail you how we learnt this over the last 3 decades. Allpayments are linked to the clearances from the funds to beobtained from authorities. Everyone without arguments acceptthat any contractor has to complete the project based on theapprovals, if the authorities delay payments, the chain isbroken. So is the current state This phase of uncertainty is alsoto be as challenge. Everyone must understand andcommunicate on these lines.

DS Construction FZ CO, has sailed over these uncertaintybusiness phases, many a times. We are confident to get to thesituation where everyone is paid.

Let me also remind the business success secret: Delay is not to

be thought of being denied. From Employee view point allthese facts reinforces the fact that we have great timesahead.

    Team mates

Everywhere festival activities make us feel live.

I was reading a study done by a leading compensation

survey team based in Cairo, that average construction

company salary delays in and around North Africa is

30- to 120 days depending on the business prosperity

By and large construction companies since 2008 in this

region have been subjected to delays in obtaining

monies from the Governments. This is crippling the

    payment cycle.

I am personally seeing cases, and pushing for monies

disbursal after justifying with Core Management team

members, for taking such proactive decisions.

I am very optimistic, that sooner this uncertainty

    phase is over.

We all will have to enjoy work and focus on

    productivity.

This month Prerna (August 2010) edition has all

attractions for Employees and HR Dash board shows

how complex HR transactions improving day by day.

And I look forward to exciting times.

The very look of Prerna is changing and this greenbackground is the sign of pledge to protect

    environment and save earth.

    Happy Prerna reading!

    Work and Employment

    Dimension of Employment Relationship

The parties are managers, employees and employee representatives. The substance incorporates

the job, reward and career of individuals and the communications and culture of the organizationas it affects them. It can also include collective agreements and joint employee relations

machinery (works councils and the like). The formal dimensions include rules and procedures, and

the informal aspect covers understanding, expectations and assumptions.

Finally, the employment relationship exists at different levels in the organizations (management to

employees generally, and managers to individual employees and their representatives or groups ofpeople). The operation of the relationship will also be affected by processes such ascommunications and consultation, and the management style prevailing throughout theorganization or adopted by individual managers.

    * Make it highly visible. Track yourmeasurements with colorful graphs whereeveryone can see them. Let the winners and

    achievers stand out.

    * Be tolerant of mistakes. Treat them as a

learning experience for your team and theentire organization.

    * Change perspective. Have your team viewthe world from the perspective of your

customers. Role playing can highlight what's

working and what's not working. Both areopportunities to improve performance and

    profitability.

    * Learn what motivates your teammembers. Tailor your incentives to what

drives your team members. Is it money,

    recognition, promotion, or time off?

Taking steps to increase the emotional and

creative involvement of your employees is

likely to result in a more profitable business.

    TURN EMPLOYEES INTO

    PRODUCTIVE TEAM PLAYERS

Do you wish your employees were more

motivated and focused on drivingproductivity and profits for your company? Are there ways to improve participation and

tap into the unused creativity and drive ofyour team? Here are a few suggestions thatmight help in that process.

    * Give employees the big picture. Make

sure each employee understands thecompany's goals and how their role

contributes to achieving them. They needto know they don't operate alone, that they

are part of a broader team.

    * Lead by example. If you want to inspireyour employees to excel, you'll need to

    demonstrate your commitment and passion

    to the process.

    * Identify your key measures. Rememberthat you can't effectively change what youdon't measure. Educate your team on

what's important and why and how you'll

track your progress. Is it sales percustomer, gross profit percentage, monthlysales level, or some other measurable

    factor?

    * Start small and build on an early success.

Pick an area ripe for improvement and

involve your best people. Then build onthat early success with generous praise and

    credit.

    ORIENTAION IN LIBYA

    Financial Services

    BANKING

Libya has embarked on a major reform

    programme of the state-dominated banking

sector during which the entire system will berestructured and several banks privatized. The

Central Bank of Libya (CBL) has been buildingthe technological, regulatory and institutional

infrastructure needed to turn over its holdingsin the sector, becoming a regulator rather thanthe owner-regulator. The banking sector has

grown quickly over the past five years in linewith increased economic activity overall. The

CBLs banking assets rose from LD54.93bn($44.66bn) in 2005 to LD79.55bn ($64.67bn) in

    2006 and LD101.45bn ($82.48bn) in 2007.

Total CBL banking assets reached LD111.51bn

($90.66bn) by the end of the first quarter of2008. Under state control Libyas bankingpolicies have been relatively defensive, which

has restricted access to credit, as banks keepmost of their liquidity in short-term deposits, but

this is beginning to change in preparation for the

sectors overhaul, with a new emphasis to orient

the sector towards profitability. The privatizationand restructuring taking place should helpprivate firms and SMEs gain access to the

financial tools they require to compete in the

new economy. Also as Libyans become

increasingly aware of the value of using banks tomanage their money, the top banks will benefit

from their early involvement in this market.
