Core purpose statement:
“Gratefully sharing God’s love through faith and service”
Some thought from your transitional Pastor...
I am blessed to have a bunch of friends who, for one good reason or another, regularly participate in walk/activities that raise money for causes that work at improving the quality of life of others. I also enjoy being a part of their efforts both in offering my energy/time, as well as financial support.
Regularly for a few years now, sometime in April, I receive a notice from a friend who has had two children die from Cystic Fibrosis at way to early an age. Each year they put together team of people -- friends, family and co-workers -- to raise money for and walk in the Great Strides Lehigh Valley walk to help find a cure for this debilitating and deadly disease. Knowing these friends, I am not surprised at all at their dedication and commitment to this cause because of the caring people they are. I also know that the spirit of their children is a very deep constant presence in them and a powerful motivating force.
The Lord has been about much the same thing…encouraging normal, everyday people and motivating them to be involved in the extra-ordinary, Spirit-driven, committed activities in this world to make a difference. One of those particularly historic motivational times happened on that first Pentecost. When the day of Pentecost had come, they (the disciples) were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. (Acts 2:1-4).
That is, as well, what God hopes you and I will be about: as individuals and a community of God’s disciples together, to work with a passion and a commitment: to be involved in extra-ordinary activities, compelled by that same Holy Spirit in each of us; to reach out into our world in ways (little or large) that somehow will help others experience their life journeys a little less challenging and much more full of the Lord’s abundant grace, love and presence.
So, how do you or will you…how do we or can we together…do that? Filled by the Holy Spirit, please keep that question as the center of your ongoing conversations with the Lord this month as the season of Pentecost (and summer) begins.
Blessings….pjl

HOLY TRINITY NEWS
Holy Trinity is a member of the Blood Bank
Program. If you give blood, you may designate it as
Holy Trinity. Also, if you ever need blood, tell them
you’re a church member.
The 2016-2017 Sunday Church School year ended on
May 28 with the traditional make-your-own sundae
event.
The SCS staff and students lead the worship services
in December (Christmas) and April (Easter). With the
help of parents, fellowship events in October and
February (Valentine's Day) were hosted by the staff
and students.
Special thanks to our dedicated staff: Sherry Creyer,
Danielle Coffin, Becky Dragovits, Jack Wetzel, Diane
Czar, Stephanie Chimics and Sam Wetzel. They have
served our congregation well as they help to prepare
our younger members to serve God and become future
leaders.
It has been a pleasure teaching Aris Sandrock, Jason
and Jax Coffin, Brianna Walker, Stella and Lucas
Strickland, Emily and Ian Thomas, Ava Baraket, Alex
and Emily Suter and Josh Leonard. We appreciate the
support of their families and for entrusting the SCS
staff with the Christian Education of their children.

OBBY – just a way of saying we’re mixing it up at
Thursday night BYOB! We’re just getting started in a new format for our evening together with God’s

from 7-8pm on Thursday night to check out this new
approach to digging into God’s word?
Begins:

See you there.
2017 VBS
This year’s VBS will be held Monday, July 17 -Friday, July 21. Our theme is Mighty Fortress. At Mighty Fortress VBS, the children will learn that God is our Mighty Fortress, our shield, and our Deliverer. This will be accomplished through song, storytelling, Bible challenge, games, crafts and snacks.
Children 3 years old through 6th grade are welcome. We encourage everyone to invite their relatives, neighbors and friends to join us! If you have any questions please talk to Rick Minnich or Cheryl Kneiss.
If someone in your household is graduating
from High School, College/University, or Trade
School (including advanced degrees), please call
Robin at the church office with the info. We
would love to include it in the “Trinity Tiding.”
MUCHAS GRACIAS for everyone's support of our Taco and Baked Potato Bar in May, which benefited youth activities and the Catty Food Bank. Sombreros off to:
Giant stores in Whitehall and Coplay, and Weis on Route 145 - each store donated a $25 gift card to help defray the cost of our food supplies.
Robin McCloud for her invaluable support and behind-the-scenes help, and her husband, Mike, for procuring all that zesty salsa and the tortillas.
Alicia Kresley for contacting Holy Trinity's faithful army of bakers, and the ladies who contributed to our homemade dessert bar: Cheryl Kneiss, Janice Kresley, Sue Marakovits, Rena Bond, Barb Fister, Rita Medence, and Suzanne Webb.
Our amazing kitchen crew, John Wargo, and Diane and Lewie Carfara.
Luther Itterly for set-up and cleanup. Joe Schwindenhammer for cleanup and his patience with me. Of special note were the only 2 youth (out of a potential 7) who were able to be at the dinner. Sam and Jack Wetzel outdid themselves with hours of work from set-up through cleanup...more effort than one might think is possible from a couple of high-schoolers!!! If I missed thanking anyone by name, I apologize. We were visited by the photographer from the Catty Press, so keep your eyes open for photos if you get the Press. Results of the dinner will be included in the next Trinity Tidings. 30-Hour Famine: Thank you for your continued patience as I wrap up the funds raised during the Famine...I know some of you have checks that you are waiting to clear. Who'd have thought retirement could be so jam-packed?!! AND THE BIG NEWS FOR JUNE: It's the return of our Junior Victorian Tea on Sunday, June 11th from 2-4pm, with doors opening at 1:30 for the basket raffle. Please see the flyer included in this newsletter, or the display in the narthex (where you can help yourself to flyers to spread the word). With the departure of Ten Thousand Villages from the Lehigh Valley Mall, we have lost our annual fundraiser for our Nohla sponsorship, so this year's Junior tea will raise funds to continue our $38/month commitment to World Vision. We've been sponsoring our South African sister since March of 2014. How can you support our youth in this amazing aspect of living out their baptism? Here are some ideas:
invite friends or family to the Junior Victorian Tea - moms, dads, kids, grandparents, godparents...
bring extra cash (or checks) to support the basket raffle portion of our tea
donate a basket or gift card to the raffle (double your impact by purchasing a kid- or family-friendly SCRIP card to donate)
take one or more flyers to post or give as invitations to the tea
volunteer to bake a kid-friendly dessert to be served at the Tea
Tickets are available from Diane Czar on Sundays, or by calling or texting 610-739-6006.
Sam Wetzel and his mom, Paige Miller, represented the youth at the Catty Food Bank on May 13th
to help shelve the mail carriers' food collection. Big thanks to both of them for giving up several
hours to volunteer.
What else to watch for in 2017:
camping opportunity at Creation Festival June 28-July2
road trip to New Windsor, Maryland in the summer to deliver the Social Ministry Team's school kit collection and to volunteer at the Brethren Center.
SCRIP NEWS
Now that I (Joe) am a Lutheran, I don't usually do "confession"...but I have something weighing on
my soul. I was enjoying a meal at Red Lobster recently, and as I reached for my credit card, I
realized I could have been benefiting Holy Trinity by paying with a SCRIP card. I'll make sure I get
my SCRIP order in this month so it doesn't happen again!!
The deadline for our next SCRIP order is June 11th. Don't forget to purchase SCRIP gift
cards for all your graduation, Father's Day, birthday, and everyday spending. Cards will arrive the
Thursday before Father's Day, and delivery can be arranged if needed.
See Joe or Luther after worship any Sunday to explore the array of gift cards that are available for
immediate purchase, or call or text Joe during the week (610-573-1957):

Since the program started at Holy Trinity in April 2014 to the present, over $4000 has been paid for
Christian Education expenses, including the Paul Frantz Scholarship. This is our mission statement
in action! YOU made this possible with your orders and in-stock purchases!
Don't forget that you can designate cards in your order or from stock for the Pastor's discretionary
use. You can place cards any time in the "IV" container on the food table for ongoing "InVisible"
infusions that make it possible for Holy Trinity to assist those in need in our community. These
"IV" purchases are tax deductible.
We encourage your continued support of this fundraiser, so that we will be prepared to pay the
entire Paul Frantz scholarship this month, as well as ongoing curriculum costs. We hope to see
more families participating in the program, and to see families participating on an ongoing basis.
Imagine what we could accomplish if everyone in our Holy Trinity family used SCRIP cards!!!
If you're not a regular participant, why not start by purchasing one Scrip card a month to pay for
a basic need such as groceries, prescriptions, pet food, gas, or coffee? And don't forget to put your name on your $0-balance cards and drop them in the box in the narthex to be entered in our next
drawing for a free $10 SCRIP card of your choice!
Thank you to each of you that contributed to the $5 Blanket Appeal in honor of or in memory of your mothers and other special women in your lives. Your generous gifts will be used by Church World Service to supply a summer- or winter-weight blanket for a refugee, or disaster victim, or homeless child of God. You did Mom proud! As of May 14th, $220 was received - enough to purchase 44 blankets.
And now, how about Dad? June brings the opportunity to honor our fathers and other men in our lives who have provided shelter for us and seen us through the "disasters" in our lives (flat tires, broken pipes, lawn mowers that won't start...). Lutheran Congregational Services provided funds and hands-on help to victims of natural disasters. You can donate any amount and, by using the flyer (in the worship bulletin or on Holy Trinity's website), you can dedicate your donation to Dad and other special men in your life. Dedications must be received by the church office by June 11th to be included in the bulletin on Father's Day, June 18th. Cards are available on the Food Table in the back of the sanctuary to convey your special thoughts to your honoree. Don't forget those catalogs on the Fair Trade table as a source of meaningful gifts for Dad this year. How about funding a share of fish fingerlings, along with training in fish farming techniques through Heifer International...or an artisan-made shirt from the SERRV website? Or make a donation in Dad's honor to Numan Orphanage, to help children whose fathers cannot care for them. And a fair trade chocolate bar would be a sure hit with Dad!
"Great living suggests greater giving." - from the January 2016 Stewardship
Honor Thy Father-June 18 We usually think of our fathers as providers . . . and isn’t that what disaster relief is about? You can honor
your father this year with a donation in any amount to Lutheran Congregational Services Disaster Relief
Fund. Please place this in the offering plate or mail it to Holy Trinity by June 11th so we may include it in the
June 18th worship bulletin.

Holy Trinity’s Twelfth Victorian High Tea
Music from “The Planets” played by Patty Fister greeted the women as they entered the hallway at Holy Trinity on their way to the High Tea on Saturday, April 29, 2017.
The tea theme revolved around the 2017 charity, Tails of Valor, Paws of Honor. Service dogs are trained by this group and then given to disabled veterans at no charge. The cloth napkins were folded to look exactly like dog bones and the centerpieces featured a mug with a dog on. The mugs were filled with Hershey kisses and a single carnation. The centerpieces became door prizes. Trinity’s lovely assortment of tea china helped reinforced the long ago and far away essence.
We served Honey-Raisin and Cranberry Orange Scones and Berry Patch and Scottish Lemon Tea Breads. The Tea Sandwiches were Chicken Salad Waldorf on Croissant, McGinnes’ Surprise on Rye, Savory Grilled Cheese/Tomato Soup and Peach Pizazz. For dessert we had Madeleines, Pineapple Minis, Caramel Shortbread, and Razzleberry Tarts. The regular tea was Maharaja Chai & Samurai Chai Mate Oolong and the decaf tea was Zingiber Ginger Coconut Rooibus & Caramel Truffle..
Liz Burda, our caterer, and her crew prepared the delicious sandwiches and brewed the tasty blended teas to perfection. The Tea Team supplied the tea breads, scones and desserts with help from Lois McAllister and Karen Frankenfield.
Thank you to our handsome and efficient servers who wore their black bowties, white shirts, and black slacks proudly and worked hard. Rich Martson, Curt Reinsmith, Jevan Evans Alicea, Joe Wetzel and his sons, Jack and Sam lent an elegant touch to the tea. Our servers also choose the most Creative Hat, Debbie Knerr, Best Overall Tea Ensemble, Peggy Sommers and Judges’ Choice, Jacki Nattress.
The following sponsors, who were not from Trinity, generously supplied gift certificates, monetary donations or products for our raffle. The sponsors included Applebee’s, Bad Bones BBQ, The Burger Shack, Cathy’s Catering, Crazy Cone, Daku Auto Body, Devolution Styling, Dunkin’ Doughnuts, Fairview House, Garden City Greenhouse, Giant Markets, Grocery Outlet, Scott Gradwell, DMD PC, HaJa Rose Bowl, King Kone, Marblehead Chowder House, Meera Salon & Day Spa, Miller Supply, Morgan’s Restaurant, My Style Hair Salon, Nacci Printing, Oasis Miniature Golf, Pets Supplies Plus, Pie’s On Pizzeria, Prime Steak House, Schadt Ave. Nails, Strands Hair Salon, Tommy Burke Provisions, Wegmans, Weis Markets, Kathy Geiger, Mary Alice Hartranft, Susan Boslet and Jackie Simone.
We extend a very special thank you to Trinity’s members who contributed gift certificates, unique items and baskets. In total there were 133 items in the Raffle; 47 gift certificates and 86 unique baskets, pictures, quilts, art work and spring flowers. The Tea Team received many compliments on the size and quality of the offering and the set up.
This year, the High Tea raised $3,951.20. $2,351.20 was put into Trinity’s Roof Fund. The remaining $1,865 was sent to Tails of Valor, Paws of Honor. The $1,865 includes $189 in donations which were put in the hallway donation jar.
Thanks for your support!

Annual Yard/Bake Sale Saturday, June 17th from 8:00am - 2:00pm. Kitchen will be open all day with food items and baked
goods. Set-up for the event starts the Wednesday evening before the sale (June 14th) and continues
through Thursday and Friday evenings until we are ready to go! We will start around 6:00 PM on set
up nights. I will also be available during the day on Thursday and Friday for drop offs and early set
up.
How members can help:
Clean out your closets, basement, attic, shed, garage, etc and bring your gently used, salable items
(clothing, toys, tools, kitchen goods, etc) to the Pink room (next to the office), starting
Sunday, May 28th. We need to keep this room functional until we can move items into the
Alice Stortz room, which will be June 11th AFTER the Jr. Tea. If the room begins to fill up,
please take the items to the downstairs class room on the left. Please make sure the boxes are
clearly marked YARD SALE. Due to limited space, please hold onto any large or bulky items
until the week of the yard sale. Pick-up of donations can be arranged!!
Volunteer to help at set-up and/or the day of the sale. We always need sorters, pricing experts,
and customer service assistants. Help as little as one hour makes a difference.
Donate a baked good for our sale. There have been requests for pies. Please consider donating
these if it's your specialty. Drop off baked goods any time during set-up or early Saturday
morning (7 am). We prefer pre-packaged items, but can cut and package your item too.
Come to the church Saturday around 1:00 and help us clean up. Some items are donated to our
community thrift shop; others are taken to various local charities. We would be very grateful
for extra hands at this time of day.
Help spread the word about the sale. Tell your neighbors & friends!
Although our family is coordinating this event, it wouldn’t be successful without all of your
donations and time spent volunteering. Last year we had a very successful year and raised over
$1600!! Some of the proceeds from this year’s event will be used to enhance our music program.
We will have a volunteer sign-up sheet in the narthex. Please feel free to contact Jill or John Suter
at 610-351-3455 or [email protected] if you need any assistance bringing donated items to the
church or if you have any questions.
Thank you in advance for all of your help!!
