NEWS THAT WILL MAKE YOU SMILE…

Our youth Ministering to the Community…

Four of our youth served dinner to a group of folks at Southern Oaks RV Resort who were celebrating Valentine’s Day. On Friday, February 9, Karlee & Kinsey Friebele and Tatiana & Thomas Jaggard arrived ready to serve others with a smile. The ladies who dished up the food were impressed that the kids said, “Thank you” each time that they were handed a plate. I am sinfully proud to say that our sweet servers were kind, efficient and worked together like professionals, and they received lots of compliments. While bussing the tables, the generous dinner guests “passed the hat” to gather tips for the servers. Later, as the kids were walking toward the exit, the man with the microphone thanked them and the room broke out into a spontaneous round of applause!

The kids and I would like to thank Terri and Jerry Hopman for this opportunity. It was their idea to invite our youth to serve at this dinner party last year. The dinner guests really liked our kids and invited them back this year! Last year, the youth donated their tips to our church. This year, they decided to give $125 to the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, where nine children were among the 26 souls lost in a tragic mass shooting last November.

God bless the children. Amen.

2018 Easter Cantata

Hope in the Shadows By Joel Raney & Lloyd Larson

A Contemporary Tenebrae Service

Good Friday Service of Worship March 30, 2018 @ 7 o’clock In the Sanctuary

Hope in the Shadows recalls Christ’s journey to the cross by examining the

shadows of betrayal, injustice and agony that marked that journey. It contrasts the selfish exploits of humanity with the divine nature of a loving God. As you take this sacred journey, may the words of James be a reminder of the hope which is ours:

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17)

PW Board Meeting - February 6, 2018

12 ladies were present: Janet Gaskamp, Holly Hamilton, Barb Goodlock, Caren Cobb, Parkie Luce, Adelaide Marlatt, Kay Patteson, Kay Stanley, Tricia Revel, Karla Crossett, Lois Atwood, and Kelly McNeely.

Janet Gaskamp opened the meeting with a prayer.

The minutes of the January 8, 2018 meeting were approved as written.

Treasurer: Holly presented her report in a new format. It shows the amount remaining for each line item. The expenses to send 20

women to The PW Gathering at Mo Ranch on April 6 – 8 is over budget but not a concern. It feels like a “good problem to have.” Adelaide moved to accept the report, Barb seconded and the vote was unanimous.

Committee Reports: Castaways: FPC sales on most Mondays this year have been over $1,000. Volunteer extraordinaire, Willie Daniel, had emergency quadruple

bypass surgery. She is in ICU and her daughter-in-law asked us to pray for her.

Good Samaritans: Janet Gaskamp reported that the center is operating like it did before the storm.

Weekend Backpacks: Trisha reports that all is well. By request, she includes more protein and fruit, but the increased cost is not an issue.

Upon learning why Trisha was at the school, one teacher exclaimed, “God Bless PW!”

Neet Feet: Kelly reported that we received a bill for $135 for 8 pairs of shoes which is less than $17 a pair. That’s a total of 120 pairs of

shoes. Head Start kids have used only 6 vouchers, and only 3 children have received two pairs of shoes.

Missions & Resources: Adelaide reported that Charlie will lead the Bible Study for February. (Update: This Bible Study was cancelled due to

roofing work.)

Quilting: Barb reported that 6 prayer quilts were completed in January. She recently spent about $400 for materials. (Update: Sewing

Day was cancelled due to roofing work.) We have one senior, Kyler Friebele, so Barb will make him a quilt that has an outdoors theme.

New Business:

Kay P. moved to accept the slate of officers as presented. Kay S. seconded and the vote was unanimous. Vice Moderator: Barb Goodlock,

Secretary: Theresa Smith, Publicity: Co-chairs-Adelaide Marlatt & Kelly McNeely, Castaways: Veronika Camehl, Good Samaritans: Lois

Atwood, Missions & Resources: Caren Cobb

Old Business:

Plans for the Dedicated Disciple Dinner, Tues. 2-27, are going well. (Update: The event will take place in Fellowship Hall due to the gym being closed while its roof is replaced.)

Janet closed the meeting with a beautiful prayer for those in attendance and for all PWs who couldn’t be there today.

Ministering to Women …

The beauty and aroma of Easter Lilies will once again grace our Sanctuary on Easter morning with your

assistance. The Presbyterian Women’s organization invites you to sponsor an Easter Lily by registering

your name, number of Lilies and dedication (if any) on the Sign-Up sheet posted on the bulletin board

outside the Mission Room. The cost per plant is $7, make checks payable to Presbyterian Women and

note “Easter Lily.” Cash envelopes should include name and “Easter Lily.” Sponsors will be invited to

take plants home at the conclusion of the Easter Worship Service.

Odds and Ends…..

* Stuff from the staff : The Church Lady *

The Church Lady is off to Ft. Bliss, Texas (El Paso) to attend my son’s

retirement ceremony and party. He’s already had his Hail and Farewell and

Last Flight (saw a video of that - it was a tear jerker - wish I could have been

there….) Anyone agree with me “it ain’t right” when your kid retires before you

do? Todd has been serving his country for 20 years through lots of deployments, seen the

world (at its best and worst) and ready to hang up his flight helmet be undertake the hardest job there is: a stay at home dad…. well, for a while anyway until he finds out what

Aubrey has been doing the past 20 years of their marriage.

Temporary Office Hours from Tuesday, February 27 through Friday, March 2:

8:30 AM to 12:30 PM -

my trusty sidekick VeeAnn Wright will once again “desk sit” in my absence.

Space reserved for the February 21 Presbyterian Men’s

Breakfast Meeting report
