REASONS FOR CHILD'S DEPRESSION

• a physical defect / illnesses• malfunction of the endocrine glands• lack of affection• lack of positive feedback and encouragement for accomplishments• death of a parent• parental favor toward one sibling• poor relationship between a stepparent and stepchild• economic problems in the home• moving to a new home or school• punishment by others

WHAT THE CHILD NEEDS TO DO IN TIMES OF LOSS AND

GRIEVING• Accept the pain of the loss

• Remember and review the relationship with the loved person

• Become familiar with all the different feelings that are part of grief, anger, sadness, despair

• Express his sorrow, anger and sense of loss to others

• Find an acceptable formulation for a future relationship with the deceased

• Verbalize feelings of guilt

• Find a network of caretakers
