Moreton Bay Regional

Council has started the

new year by adopting its

new permanent logo.

The logo - designed to

reect the key characteristics

of our Moreton Bay region -

was developed over several

months, taking into

account valuable input from

residents and community

members, students, artists

and council staff.

The new logo will be rolled

out over the coming months

and will be featured on

council vehicles, facilities,

signs, stationery and

buildings.

The logo is a graphical

depiction of our dynamic and

diverse region:

The wave of blue

represents the bay and our

waterways

The orange sweep and

dots represent all the

communities, as well

as the individuals and

families, who call our

growing region home

The roll of green

represents our much-

valued environmental

areas and spectacular

mountain ranges

Each of the three main

colours grow bolder as theymove from left to right, to

reect the strength of our

Moreton Bay region as we

move forward and embrace

the future, its opportunities

and challenges.

Importantly, the logo is

much more than just a

visual identity. It also

conrms Moreton Bay

Regional Councils status

as a maturing, united local

government - with a sharp

community focus and strong

commitment to meet the

expectations of residents.

Over the next three years,

council and Queensland

Health will deliver a free

immunisation program to

high school students in theMoreton Bay region.

This is the rst time a free

council-run immunisation

program has been available

to students attending

schools in the Redcliffe and

Caboolture districts.

The move will help boost

the health of young people

and provide an effective

means of reducing the

spread of common diseases

such as hooping cough and

chickenpox.

As part of the program,

students in years eight and

ten will also be vaccinated

for Hepatitis B, Cervical

Cancer, Diphtheria and


Council and the RSPCA

are promoting responsible

animal ownership by

encouraging residents

to de-sex and micro-chip

their pets.

From 1 February, council

will offer a $10 micro-

chipping program for

pets while from March,

residents can take

advantage of discounted

de-sexing for cats.

Its all part of a larger

State Government funded

study aimed at nding

ways to reduce the

number of euthanased

animals in South-East

Queensland.

Micro-chipping can

dramatically increase

the odds of an animal

being reunited with its

owners, because once a

pet is micro-chipped, it is

identiable for life.

Under councils local

laws, cats and dogs in the

Moreton Bay region

must be kept on their

own properties and

prevented from

wandering or escaping.

corporate plan. The

corporate plan will act as a

guide for council decisions

and policies over the next

ve years.

Council is currently collating

the public submissions

that were received during

the draft corporate plan

consultation period, which

closed mid December. Yourfeedback will be considered

by council before the plan is

adopted in March.

Draft SEQ Regional Plan

Storm season is here

and council is urging all

residents to ensure they

have a battery operated

radio handy for vital

updates in the event of

an emergency.

When a severe stormstrikes, electricity and

telephone lines can be cut

and mobile phone services

may not operate.

It is important to

have a battery operated

radio at home to stay

fully informed about

any road closures,evacuation centres or

other relevant emergency

information.

In an emergency situation,

council provides regular

updates for immediate

broadcast to radio stations

including 612 ABC,

101.5FM in Cabooltureand 99.7FM in Redcliffe.

Residents of South-East

Queensland have until 3 April,

2009 to provide feedback to

the State Government about

the draft SEQ Regional Plan.

Residents are encouraged

to comment on a range of

issues from urban growth to

trafc and transportation,

the environment, economic

development, sustainability

and climate change.

Once nalised, the SEQ

Regional Plan will establish

the principles and policies

that will guide council as

it addresses issues facing

our fast-growing region and

provide a blueprint for future

development activity.

Each year more than

1000 people in the

Moreton Bay region

become Australian citizens.

The largest citizenship

ceremony is held on

Australia Day and this year

68 residents took the Oath

of Allegiance.

Citizenship ceremonies

Caboolture Memorial Hall

from 7pm on Thursday, 26

February and the Strathpine

Community Centre

from 7pm on Thursday,

26 March.

Moreton Bay Regional Councilwhich has extended the Older

and Bolder program for over

50s right across the region.

Older and Bolder provides

a wide range of low cost

and subsidised activities

designed to promote an

active and healthy lifestyle

to mature-aged residents.

Some of the newer activities

on offer for March include jet

skiing, an introduction to four-

wheel driving and a south

passage sea voyage fromBribie Island.

Other activities in March

include an Abbey Museum

tour, tai chi, pistol shooting,

visit to the Wheel of Brisbane

and river cruise, and a cycle

by the sea.

Cross Country Tours will also

operate day trips to places

of interest within South-East

Queensland.

Residents can lodge a

booking request for theOlder and Bolder program

from 6 to 13 February. Initial

applications will be selected

via a random lotto system.

if places remain.

Residents are being

encouraged to help

prevent crime by micro-

dotting valuables

including bicycles, iPods

and mobile phones.

Micro-dots which are

currently being trialled

by the Queensland Police

at locations across the

state are non-visible,

non-damaging and act

as an identication tool

for police returning lost

or stolen property.

Micro-dot kits cost

$60 and are currently

available at Pine Rivers

and Arana Hills PCYCs.

A major upgrade of the

Burpengary East Sewage

Treatment Plant will begin

early this year and be

completed by mid 2011.

The upgrade will cater forthe booming population

of the area while also

improving the quality of

the water which ows into

the Caboolture River and

Moreton Bay.

Council recently accepted a

$31 million contract for the

main upgrading work which

will form part of the overall

$46.2 million project.

Council will also upgrade

the community of

Donnybrook from septic

systems to sewerage.

A sewerage pump station

will be constructed at

Donnybrook to enable

sewage to be treated at the

Bribie Island Wastewater

Treatment Plant.

The project also has the

potential to be expanded

in the future to sewer the

communities of Toorbul

and Meldale, which

are located between

Donnybrook and Ningi.

Moreton Bay RegionalCouncil and FaunaWatch will

host a reptile and amphibian

identication workshop on

Saturday, 14 February.

Running from 9.15am to

12.30pm at the Caboolture

Region Environmental

Education Centre (150

Rowley Road, Burpengary),

the hands-on workshop will

show you how to identify local

frogs and reptiles.

The session is designed toencourage residents to join

the FaunaWatch program,

which helps record the

location of native fauna to

assist development planning

and policy making.

to improve our environment.

The Clean Up Australia Day

Last year, there were 69

sites registered in Moreton

Bay region and more than

1,100 volunteers collected

225.3 cubic metres of

rubbish - the equivalent ofabout a quarter of an Olympic

sized swimming pool. Among

the rubbish collected 6.1

cubic metres was material

that could be recycled.

This year council is helping

local site coordinators with

their arrangements and

providing them with clean up
