Advanced Organisation DesignMost companies make significant changes to structures, responsibilities or connecting processes at least once a year.Changes in the external environment, changes in strategy andchanges in people all contribute to the need for regular adjustmentsto organisation.

Unfortunately many changes in organisation are knee jerk reactionsto events rather than carefully crafted redesigns. This is because, untilrecently, the tools for doing organisation design have been limited andfew managers have been trained in how to design structures.

Advanced Organisation Design aims to correct this situation. It is built around the breakthrough book “Designing EffectiveOrganisations”. It focuses on practicaltools that provide a rigorous frameworkfor making design choices. It alsoexplores some of the tougher issues inthe process of doing design work.

“The course was really really great, one of the best I have ever been on. I have learnt a lot and I feel very privileged to have been taught by all of you!”

“Wonderful course. I feel much better and ready to practice what I have learnt.”

“By applying the 9 tests (tailored to the language and context of our organisation) I have been able to very quickly take senior managers and staff through an assessment of several possible organisational models and start to build a business case for a preferred option.”

Anaam Naomi Heer, HR Manager, Jaguar Land Rover.

Fiona Tice, Head of HR Projects, Heathrow Airport Ltd

Head of Change, Quality and Infomation, Medical Regulator.

About the courseAt the heart of the course are the 9 tests of good organisation design. These can be used to assess the effectiveness of a current organisation structure, challenge a proposed new design or refine a design prior to communicating and implementing it.

The course covers a range of tools and frameworks - those in red are the main focus. Most tools are helpful at more than one stage of a design process.

Page 4: Advanced Organization Design Brochure

The first two days focus on the tools and the second two days focus on practicalexamples and process issues.
