ACTIVITY REPORT -APRIL – MAY 2017 7 TH APRIL:SPECIAL ASSEMBLY ON WORLD HEALTH DAY On the occasion of World Health Day on 7April2017, a special assembly was organized for the students of classes VI-VIII. The assembly began with a melodious rendition of theSaraswatiVandana .The Principal, Mr.ManoharLal welcomed the students to the new academic session. He briefed the students about the latest developments and positive changes in the school which include high boundary walls with panic alarms,new furniture, installation of fire-fighting system,solar panels,windmill, Smart Boards in all classes and installation of a 65 feet national flag of India which is the first of its kind and is the pride of our school. Mr.ManoharLal also advised the students to eat nutritious food and exercise regularly in order to maintain their mental and physical health. Vice-Principal, Academics,Mrs.DeekshaKhera informed the students about the changes in curriculum and assessment format in the new academic session.She also advised the students to be diligent and meticulous from the very beginning of the session. Special guest for the assembly ,Dr.Kamal Gupta addressed the students and emphasized the need to maintain good health and personal hygiene as poor health can lead to setback in studies,psychological trauma and financial losses. On the occasion of World Health Day a Health Camp was organized by Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in the school clinic and teachers got their check-up done .

17APRIL: MUSICAL AFTERNOON AT DPS INTERNATIONAL

Ten students of class XI went to DPS international on 17 April 2017 accompanied by Ms. Alka to witness a soulful musical performance presented by Ms. SasikaRao , a renowned Cello player.

Born in Holland Ms. Sasika Rao was influenced by Indian Classical music at a young age and hence practiced under PanditHari Prasad Chaurasia . Her grandfather used to play the cello and so she selected it as her instrument. She calls it the Indian cello and it is the only cello that has more strings than usual. She was accompanied by a tabla player. Their solo and duet both were beautiful. Also interaction with the students was as enjoyable as the whole performance.

• 18 April: REPORT ON ITIHAAS

On the occasion of World Heritage Day an Inter School Poster and Slogan writing competition was organised by Itihaas- Indian Traditions and Heritage Society and Archaeological Survey of India. 25 students of our school from classes VI, VII, VIII, IX and XI participated under three categories. The competition was held at Safadurjung Tomb, Delhi. The topics were History, Beauty in the Stones and Policy and Heritage. Around 60 schools from Delhi and NCR participated in this grand event. Our students performed well and beautifully depicted history and heritage in their art works.

19 APRIL: MUNQSMUN INTRA 2017

The model united nations quiz society organised its annual intra event on 19th April, 2017.The competition saw students from class IX to XII displaying extraordinary diplomatic skills, immense knowledge of foreign relations and clever negotiation tactics.

Two committees were simulated this year in the form of United Nations General Assembly and United Nations Security Council with over 70 students, representing 70 different countries, everyone received a good exposure of how the real United Nations works.

Vice Principal, Mrs.AshaTuli felicitated the Best Delegate, the High Commendation, the Special Mention and the Best Newcomer.

Proper discussion and effective solutions were given by the delegates who helped avert the crisis in Syria and Europe, Thus ending the conference on a high note.

• 21 April: Declamation competition at Springdales School The 51st GowardhanDass Declamation competition was held at Springdales School, Pusa Road on 21 April 2017. The competition was of an extempore format with participation from 26 reputed school of Delhi. It was adjudged by Dr. NirmalyaSamanta (associate Prof. of English, D.U), Dr. Maneesha Roy (assistant Prof. of Political science, D.U), and Prof. Chandrachur Singh (assistant Prof. of Political Science, D.U). Delhi Public School Mathura Road was represented by Anushtha Shukla (12-F) ,Khushi Bajaj (12- L), Akshat Chopra (12- D), and Vitti Joshi (12- M). The topics in the competition were associated with varied subjects such as current issues, Science, Social Studies and Technology. The participants, armed with statistics and data made their arguments more emphatic with their righteous facial expressions, body movement and gestures. It was a stiff competition and turned out to be an enriching experience for all participants.

INTER SECTION ENGLISH DEBATE CLASS XII.

The debating society of Delhi Public School, Mathura Road organised the Inter Section English Debate for class XII on Friday, 21st April2017. Able and Aspirant debaters of class XII addressed their views on the following topics:

1. PATRIOTISM IS ON THE WANE. 2. THE LIMELIGHT ON SOCIAL MEDIA IS NOTHING BUT A

TEMPORARY BUBBLE. 3. CENSORSHIP: A SPOKE IN THE WHEEL OF CREATIVITY.

The panel of judges was chaired by MS KUNJAN KACKER, In charge English Debating Society and MS MANISHA VARMA, In charge activities council. MS ASHA TULLI, vice-principal of DPS Mathura road, MS RAJINI DHINGRA ,HOD English , MS REEMA SHARMA and MS POONAM GUPTA , In charge English Debating Society , motivated the participants with their presence .

The winners of the debate were:

FIRST PRIZE: HIMANSHI BAHL and YOUSUF KHAN.

SECOND PRIZE: ISHHAN IMAM

and SHIVAM SHOREWALA.

THIRD PRIZE: SANKALP MISHRA and MANVEE BANSAL.

MOTIVATIONAL PRIZES: HEEBA AFAF and SAMAY GOEL.

BEST INTERJECTORS: ANUSHKA GUPTA and DHRUV KHURANA.

Apart from the debate , the Debating Society of Delhi Public School Mathura road , for the very first time hosted an Extempore event as well , in which the students of class XI and XII eagerly took part , all the participants , actively put forward their arguments on all the topics .

Literati 2017

"Only the very weak-minded refuse to be influenced by literature and poetry." Cassandra Clare "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." That is why, Delhi Public School, Mathura Road ensures that every child truly holds their idiosyncratic baton up by organising the annual literary fest “Literati” ,which was held this year from 26 to 28 April 2017, for Classes VI – XII. Spanning over three days the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 1800 students. Keeping up with the legacy, Literati 2017 was a colossal success. Students portrayed zest and vigour – displaying the vibrancy in talent that the school holds. The events, Poet's Shack, Parchment and Ink, Wandering Lens, and Doodle Me, all put the best minds of the school to work at creating magic with their literary and artistic skills.

Spell Bee aided in sharpening spellings and understanding everyday uses of complex words. Four new events were introduced this year to keep up with the tradition. Comic Strip and Newspaper design gave students a brand new platform to express their creativity sprinkled in with general knowledge and story building. Limericks added a hint of humour to the festival, where Talk It Out, a short interactive debate, kept up the intellectual pillars. The Principal, Sri Manohar Lal along with the Vice Principals, Ms. DeekshaKhera (Academic) and Ms. Asha Tuli (Administrative), visited the venues and motivated the students with words of inspiration. Students and teachers alike enjoyed being a part of this illustrious event.

Ryan International School Model United Nations 2017

The Model United Nations and Quiz Society of Delhi Public School, Mathura Road participated in the prestigious Ryan International School Model United Nations 2017. The conference witnessed participation of more than 30 schools across the Delhi-NCR region. The Model UN Society of our school once again proved its dominance by conquering almost each and every committee and bagged the Best Delegation trophy for the 6thconsecutive year. Students from our school also served as the members of the executive board and made the conference an enriching experience.

29th April 2017 Legal Literacy - Nationals

Adyopanth

Atmabodh, a non-government organization organized a street play competition at national level. The preliminary round was held on 25th April, 2017 from which only 5 teams qualified for the finale. The final round was held on 29th April, 2017 at rooftop Pallika Bazaar which aimed for a real stimulation of NukkadNatak. Delhi Public School, Mathura Road participated and successfully qualified for the finals and managed to grab the first spot in the nationals. The performance was lauded by the audience and left the judges overwhelmed. The myriad talent of our team showcased the plight of women, with special emphasis on rape, acid attack, sexual offence and domestic violence victims. The honorable judge - Director Human Rights Commission ended this community welfare venture with an inspirational note. It was no surprise that the trophy came home and our students not only had a share in something which is par excellence but also nurtured an innate sense of community service. QUIZEBATE’17

Modern School, Vasant Vihar organised an inter school competition, ‘QUIZEBATE’, on the 4th and 5th of May 2017. The competition comprised two main events- quiz and debate.

The students of Delhi Public School, Mathura Road participated and qualified for the semi- final round in the quiz while Vitti Joshi of class XII-M secured the first position in debate competition.

The event proved to be a resourceful insight in the world of quiz and debate and helped the students in gaining confidence.

5 May :INTER SECTION ENGLISH DEBATE- CLASS VIII The English Debating Society organised the Inter Section English Debate for Class VIII on 5th May 2017. The young debaters were given the opportunity to express their opinions on the topics ‘Pay the price and you are a success’, ‘If you want peace, be ready for war’, and ‘Urban Loneliness makes Facebook a trusted friend.’ The competition was adjudged by Ms. KaminiDhody, senior teacher of the

English Department, and Ms. RajniDhingra, Head of the English Department. The first position was bagged by ShouryaBaijal of VIII-C, followed by AmnaAbdin of class VIII-H who stood second, and the third position was shared by Vibhuti Malhotra of class VIII-F and PranaviPoddar of class VIII-H. Motivational Prizes were given to the following students: RiddhiJaggi of class VIII-H, BaaniBhatnagar of class VIII-E and Arpita Arora of class VIII-B. Best interjector was awarded to Noor Fatima (VIII-F) and JahnaviPande (VIII-G). The debate was a lively and enthusiastic one, full of young opinions and arguments which didn’t fail to impress anybody.
