ACTIVITY REPORT FOR THE PERIOD 1 st APRIL 2016 - 31 st MARCH 2017 OMU 2016 DRAWS 600 DELEGATES Fernandez Hospital collaborated with the Society of Obstetric Medicine, India to conduct the Obstetric Medicine Update 2016 on 4 th , 5 th and 6 th November at the Marrio Convenon Centre, Hyderabad. The Hospital’s 17 th Annual Conference drew nearly 600 delegates from all over the country. The Scienfic Programme focused on “Meeng Challenges” faced in Obstetric Medicine. The Conference addressed these challenges based on current guidelines and evidence based knowledge and also provided expert opinions. EXPERIENCED FACULTY : Dr. Sandra Lowe from Australia was the keynote speaker. She also delivered the 11 th Annual Dr. L. C. Fernandez Oraon. Also bringing vast experience to the dais was Dr. J. Ravichandran from Malaysia. Complemenng the internaonal speakers was a naonal faculty of 21 experts from various fields who presented their talks on subjects ranging from Pulmonology, Rheumatology, Neuropsychiatry, Haematology, Obesity, Hypertension and Crical Care. A PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP was also held on 4th November, 2016 with the theme : Challenges in Obstetric Thrombosis and Haemostasis. WORKSHOPS CONDUCTED In conjuncon with Fernandez Hospital, the Foundaon connues to receive requests from all over the country for workshops. Several were conducted by the Hospital in cies like Thrissur, Chennai, Mumbai, Baroda, Nandyal, Hyderabad, Guntur and Vijayawada. PROFESSIONAL MIDWIFERY SERVICESThe Foundation is collaborating with Fernandez Hospital in promoting the concept of PROMISE – Professional Midwifery Services. The focus is on selecting the right candidates to be educated and trained as midwives and nurses within the maternity hospital environment. The two-year Professional Midwifery Education and Training (PMET) Programme, which began in 2011, regularly brings in tutors / midwives from the U.K. to systematically train batches of eight student nurses over 50 sessions. The fourth batch of midwives graduated at a special ceremony on 13th September 2017. Since August 2011 till September 2017, the midwives have helped deliver 6835 babies.
