T I N G I R A A H O Y !The Tingira Pirates Commodore’s Ball was a great success in lots of ways. The pirate theme certainly complemented both the visit of nine members from Wooden Boat Association Queensland (WBAQ) and the Matthew Flinders Day commemoration held that weekend on Coochiemudlo. The WBAQ members made Tingira their base for their Matthew Flinders Messabout. Most slept overnight aboard their boats anchored (or beached) at the newly established Sandpiper Park. One member set up his tent in the Club grounds and had a close view of the 2.7m king tide that occurred during the night. They had nothing but praise for our Tingira hospitality and the pirate ball was certainly one of the highlights of their visit. “We will be back again next year,” was a promise heard several times .

Ron and Val Notley (and the decorating team) turned the Tingira Clubhouse into a pirate’s den with lots of flags, rope, netting, anchors and mannequin pirates.

Our cooks provided excellent pirate grub with the pirate hoard enjoying Lee’s bilge water soup; Moya’s and Jeanette’s albatross Kiev and vegetables followed by Kay’s monster slices of pavlova or chocolate mousse.

Bob, Neville, Margaret and Moss enjoying a bowl of Lee’s bilge water soup and hardtack
