I saw many smiles on Tuesday morning (they were the parents at school drop off time) but I am also pleased to say there were smiles on the faces of our students ready to come back to see their friends and teachers. Our staff, of course, returned Monday for School Development Day. This day was an opportunity for our teachers and leaders to engage in professional learning opportunities about Aboriginal cultural and historical awareness. There was also a workshop on increasing the intellectual quality of learning experiences. During the last part of the day teachers worked in stage teams to collaborate on planning and assessment. For the next three weeks I will continue to relieve for Mr Newcombe whilst he travels in Canada. The group of teachers who attended the study tour of Vancouver and the Yukon in their holidays, have had an amazing time with very significant learning experiences. As they return from this wonderful opportunity, I am already hearing about how they've been impacted personally and as educators. The best news has been the wonderful ideas and connections they have brought back for our school. Mr Newcombe is continuing to travel with other principals in Canada for the remainder of his leave. STAFF UPDATES We wish Mrs Robson and Mrs Bensley all the very best as they commence their maternity leave. We thank Mr Rodgers (on 5/6R) and Mr Weekes (on 1/2B) for taking over these classes. Mrs Captain has been requested to relieve in a specialist position at our Glenfield District Office. At this stage she is required for the duration of Term 2. Miss Vrtkovski will be teaching 1/2C during this time and will collaborate regularly with Mrs Captain.

    From the Relieving Principal

Welcome back to Term 2.

    STAFF UPDATES

We wish Mrs Robson and Mrs Bensley all the very best as they commence their maternity leave.

  • COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP MEETINGS

We are looking forward to hosting our next Community Partnerships Meetings this month. We run two meetings, one during the day and one in the evening. Two focus areas for the upcoming meetings are playground upgrades and consultation on the school's draft Anti-Bullying Plan. We welcome families to partner with us in these processes to make the best decisions possible for our students. The day time meeting will be 18/5 at 9:15am (library) and the evening meeting will be 21/5 at 6:30pm (staffroom). Refreshments are provided at both meetings.

    MOTHERS' DAY EVENTS

Mothers' Day is coming up very soon. Next Wednesday 9 May 2018 a stall will be held for students to purchase gifts. A note has gone home with more information. If you can spare a couple of hours to help with the sale of gifts at the stall, please contact our office or Ms de Manincor.

We will also be holding our very popular Mothers' Day afternoon tea on Thursday 10 May 2018 to celebrate all of the wonderful women in our students' lives. Please return the RSVP so that we can cater for this event.

Kylie Lyneham NAPLAN NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests the types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation and numeracy. This year the assessment will be held on the 15th to 17th May 2018. It is important to remember that NAPLAN is not about passing or failing, but about assessing learning progress. At the classroom level, it is one of a number of important tools used by teachers to measure student progress. If you would like your child to be exempt from participating in this assessment please arrange an appointment to speak to Mrs Wells by Wednesday 9th May 2018. SCHOOL PHOTOS School Photos will be held this term on Thursday 24 May 2018. Information packs have been handed out today. Students will need to bring along the school photo envelope ON THE DAY ONLY. Teachers will not be collecting any payments or envelopes prior to the day. We ask all students to be in their full school uniform. The photos that will be taken on the day are individual, class, sibling, Year 6 and whole school photos. All other photos such as sport photos will be held on an additional day later in the year. ANZAC DAY Last term students participated in an ANZAC Day assembly. We would like to congratulate our students for the respect that they displayed during the assembly. Mrs Lyneham and our school leadership team also attended the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Ingleburn RSL. We would like to thank their parents for supporting this important occasion. We would also like to thank Mr Patrick O’Grady and Mr David Duckworth from the Ingleburn RSL Sub Branch for explaining the importance of this years’ ANZAC Day commemorations.
