Queridos Miembros de Santa María, El Evangelio de hoy tiene algunas de las palabras más difíciles en toda la Escritura para entender. Los llamo amigos, porque les he contado todo lo que he escuchado de mi Padre. Je-sús revela a Dios, sin embargo, no pensamos inmediatamente en Dios como un amigo. Dios es, ante todo, el ser supremo que requiere homenaje y obediencia: Dios está por encima de noso-tros. La amistad, por otro lado, implica una reverencia y aceptación mutuas. Los verdaderos ami-gos no controlan ni juzgan, ni esperan un tratamiento deferente: los amigos están con nosotros. El Dios que nos revela Jesús nos llama no solo a la obediencia (un concepto fácil) sino a la transparencia y la intimidad radicales (más difícil). Hoy nuestro amigo Jesús nos da un manda-miento: ¡Ámense los unos a los otros como yo los amo a ustedes! ¿Cómo o dónde aprender más acerca de este misterioso Dios que nos invita a la amistad en Cristo? Una forma esencial es ir a misa. La misa no es una devoción privada. La misa es la forma en que adoramos juntos. Comenzamos la Misa reverenciando a los demás con un saludo porque, recuerden, Jesús está disfrazado de la persona que está detrás de nosotros. Escuchamos atentamente a Jesús que nos habla a través de las lecturas. Expresamos nuestra fe a través de un canto sincero con la voz que Dios nos haya dado. Creo que cada uno recibe la gracia de la Misa en proporción di-recta a lo que cante. La colección del Ofertorio es adoración. Así que venimos a la Misa habien-do ya discernido en oración y "envuelto para regalo" nuestra contribución en un sobre. Si utiliza-mos el envío automática, entonces colocamos un sobre vacío en la canasta. Estamos de pie du-rante la Oración Eucarística. Esta es la postura sacerdotal para ofrecer el sacrificio de nuestras vidas junto con la perfecta auto-oferta de Jesús. ¡Y en la Comunión nos convertimos en el Tabernáculo! Reverenciamos al Jesús presente en su Cuerpo estando de pie y cantando desde el momento en que el sacerdote recibe hasta que la última persona llega a la Mesa. Después de la Comunión, el sacerdote da tiempo para sentarse o arrodillarse en silenciosa oración personal. Yo lo llamo el dulce silencio. Estos son los momentos preciosos para simplemente beber el misterio del Dios todopoderoso que nos llama a una amistad.
