LITURGY 408.847.5151 OR [email protected]

Our Happy Easter continues for 50 days! This is a big celebration — the sum and substance of who we are. The joys of initiation fill us to bursting. We initiated 3 at the Easter Vigil; we welcome Steve, baptized in a different faith tradition, into full communion as a Catholic; we will celebrate hundreds of first communions and confirmations between now and Pentecost. How wonderful you are, God! Cheers to the preparation teams for all of these sacraments. Let us rejoice and be glad! Pastoral Associate

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT One excellent way to spend an hour a week in prayer—part of the Five 1’s—is to visit the Blessed Sacrament, Christ’s sacramental body. You can visit the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle whenever the chapel is open. Generally, that is 6:30am-4:00pm weekdays; 7:30am-8:00pm Saturdays and 6:00am-8:00pm Sundays. For another experience of Christ, we have several opportunities to visit the exposed Blessed Sacrament for adoration. Every Tuesday the Blessed Sacrament is exposed and rosary is prayed from 7:00pm-8:00pm. Every Sunday afternoon, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed from 1:00pm-5:00pm for silent prayer. The closing prayers are sung in several languages. On the first Friday of each month visit the Blessed Sacrament after morning Mass with song and prayer . Then we hold silent prayer until 1:00pm. From 1:00pm-2:00pm the Divine Mercy Prayer Group leads sung prayer in Spanish. At 5:00pm we pray benediction and put Christ away. Some of us find our prayer enhanced by this visible presence of Christ. All are welcome.

SMS BLUE & WHITE AUCTION A HUGE SUCCESS! Thank you to everyone who attended our 29th Annual Blue & White Auction “It’s Your Move” on March 5th. What an incredible evening! Thank you to our auction chairs Shelly Paiva and Lara Orradre and their amazing team! Thank you to the Gilroy Lodge on the Hill for hosting us! Thank you also to everyone who purchased our incredible auction items! Although the final figures are not in yet, the proceeds will pay for furniture for 3rd through 5th grades, new carpet for the kindergarten classroom and a new marquee. We truly appreciate everyone’s support!

The Administration, Faculty, Staff and

Students of St. Mary School extend sincere wishes for a blessed Easter to our friends at Saint Mary Parish.

The School Office will be closed for the Easter Holiday week. Classes will resume on Monday, April 4th.

WEEKEND LITURGY QUESTIONS/COMMENTS – MARCH 27, 2016

1. In today’s Gospel, “the other disciple” (whom Scripture scholars say is most likely John, the disciple Jesus loved) outpaces Peter to the empty tomb.

2. When John arrives, he is the first to believe. In the Catholic tradition, John represents the heart, and Peter the head, of the Church.

3. This Resurrection account reminds us that often it’s the heart that arrives at faith more quickly than the mind. Focus on forming the hearts and not just the minds of your children. Happy Easter!

REGISTRATION FOR 2016-2017 CONTINUES Registration for the 2016-2017 school year continues. Though the application due date for Kindergarten Years 1 & 2 through 8th grade has passed, we strongly encourage families interested in enrolling their child to submit an application to the school. There are wonderful opportunities for all students at St. Mary School. Visit the school website at www.stmarygilroy.org to find out more or phone the School Office at 408.842.2827 to set up a tour.
