Dear Members of St Mary, Parish festivals are key events in the life of any faith community. For many years ours (always in September or October) was combined with the Sweepstakes as a key fund-raising instrument. The trend for the past several years was a declining participation in both, which is why we decided to forgo the Festival this year. Sometimes giving something a rest allows for re-thinking and re-energizing. This is my prayer! After consultation with the Parish Team (staff) and the Parish Council, I’m excited to announce that the St. Mary Parish Festival will come to life again on Sunday, August 20, 2017. This is the first Sunday after our patronal Feast of the Assumption. We are St. Mary of the Assumption! We will celebrate our Feast Day while welcoming the St. Mary School and Religious Education families back for another year. We need to start preparing now! In the next weeks I will be contacting representatives of all the varied parish groups for an initial planning meeting. I am very confident that we—School families, Religious Education families, St. Joseph Family Center workers, prayer groups, youth groups, Knights of Columbus, ICF members, professional, devotional and cultural associations, etc.—can all come together to have a successful and energizing celebration on August 20th! On behalf of the St. Mary Parish, I thank in advance those leaders who will be responding to my invitation to that meeting.
God bless, Fr. Robert Samuel

Religious Education classes are in session. You are still able to pick up registration forms in
the Religious Education Office. Beginning November 1st, we cannot count the year as being First Year for Sacramental Preparation. Please call our office for further information. Our number is 408.847.2652.
Weekend Liturgy Questions/Comments 10/23/16 1. Humility is a virtue that exudes from our very being. We display
humility with our eyes, our demeanor, and with our spirit even before our words reveal our true selves.
2. Sometimes we mistakenly think we’re better than other people. How do you think God sees us every day? How can we be humble and still feel good about helping others?
3. We cultivate a spirit of humility through living a life full of gratitude for the blessings we have received and by a sincere awareness of our dependence upon the generous giver of those blessings.
Our students participated in the 8th Annual Walk-a-Thon on Friday, September 23rd, and did an amazing job! They ran/walked a total of 7,729 laps and earned $37,765 for our school! The top earner in the school was 8th grader, Jimmy Falvey, and the top earning class was 8th grade. St. Mary School would like to thank Walk-a-Thon Chair Nicole Fonseca, all of our parent volunteers, and our Walk-a-Thon supporters and sponsors: Allied Landscape Services; Claudia Fonseca Real Estate Golden Hills; Cottage Floors; Jernell Escobar, DDS; Fry's Electronics; JN Abbott Distributor; Kent Construction; Kyoto Palace Restaurant; Melo's Concrete; Omni Sheet Metal; Sprig Electric;Taylor Farms; Thermal Conductive Bonding (TCB); and Wafelbakker Anderson Orthodontics South County.
This ministry is in need of ministers!!! This ministry is the easiest of all ministries because the time involved is short and so is the preparation. If you would like to share the Word with the young members of our community, please call Barbara in the Religious Education Office at 408.847.2652.
Open House St. Mary School’s Open House is set for Wednesday, November 2nd from 5:00pm-7:00pm. We invite anyone interested in enrolling their child at St. Mary School for the 2017-18 school year to come to this informational evening. Prospective parents will meet with Principal Pam Greteman, learn about school policies and procedures, and tour the school. Applications for all grades for the 2016-17 school year are available in the School Office and online at www.stmarygilroy.org. For more information, call Admissions Director Emily Morris at 408.842.2827.
Reserved Parking Have you seen the signs in the parish parking lot marked, “Reserved for McIntire Family” and “Reserved for Del Rio Family” close to the field fence? These spaces are reserved for these families each school day and on the weekends for school-sponsored events. Please do not park in these spots –these families were the highest bidders at last year’s Blue & White Auction. Thank you for your cooperation.
