Right now I have completed the first goal. Goals I should keep are the 3rd goal which is to carry out a conversation and the 2nd goal which is improve spelling words each quiz.

I have learned numbers 1-199, temperatures, telling time, and many words and commands.

Mad Hot Ballroom-Cultural Artifact

• This artifact is a cultural artifact. I chose to include it because I think it shows something new that I learned about things that are important to the Spanish culture. Mad Hot Ballroom is a Spanish video about kids in school that are put into a dancing class. I completed this activity by watching the video and answering the questions about it. This demonstrates my learning because it shows that I have learned that dancing is an important aspect in the Spanish culture.

Cuento Progresivo-Growth Artifact

This artifact is a growth artifact. I chose to include this artifact because it demonstrates how far I have come since the beginning of the year in Espanol 1. Cuento Progresivo is a story the class has been writing for a day an a half. I completed this by contributing a sentence that would go well into the story and by finishing the story on my own. This shows my learning in spanish class because I am now able to write a short simple story in spanish.

Episodio 6 Translation- Reading

This artifact is a reading artifact. This artifact is included because it shows my ability to read and translate Spanish. The Episodios we have been reading for a while and we specifically had to translate the 6th episode which was how I completed this. This translation shows my ability to read Spanish and comprehend it.

Mis entrevistas-Speaking

Mis entrevistas is a speaking artifact. I chose to include this artifact because it is a simple way to show my ability to speak in Spanish. Mis entrevistas was a speed dating activity where we had to find out more about someone by asking them questions. I completed this activity by asking questions and writing down the answers in Spanish on a small sheet. This represents my learning in Spanish class because I am able to ask questions and carry out conversations in spanish to find more about people.

Poema yo-WritingPoema yo is a writing artifact. I chose to include

this artifact because it demonstrates my ability to write in Spanish. For this assignment, we had to write a poem about ourselves and what we do and don’t like to do; we also had to use things that described us and didn’t describe us. I completed this activity by writing the poem and using pictures to represent the adjectives and things I like to do. This demonstrates my ability to write in Spanish because I can now write poems and stories using the things I have learned.

Reflection: I have been working on these goals each class period. I have learned new pronouns and how to use proper verb endings. I believe that I have been able to accomplish the 2nd goal and have come close to the 1st and 3rd goals.

Speaking Artifact: Pasaporte

• I included this artifact because it is proof that I can speak spanish and talk to multiple people and hold a conversation with them. The pasaporte serves as a speaking activity where you were to go around school talking to teachers in Spanish and getting their signatures. I would have talked to more teachers if I could have redone this assignment.

Cultural Artifact: Country Activity

I included this artifact because it shows the cultural aspects that we learn in spanish. I was assigned to a country that was given certain supplies according to location. This acts like actual countries in the world today which helps show how the cultures are different based off of the money and different supplies they have. I would have liked a better country because my country had one of the worst supplies out of all the countries. This helps show that I have learned that cultures can be based off of what a country has.

Reading Artifact: “La Calculadora”

I chose to include this artifact because this shows my abilityto read in Spanish and to comprehend it. “La Calculadora” is a song that is about a girl discovering how to pass math by using a calculator. There is a lot of vocabulary that I learned through reading these song lyrics. We had to sing the song and then go through it and find cognates to the English language. I wouldn’t have done anything different for this artifact.

Original Writing: Thank You Letter

I included this artifact because it demonstrates my ability to write in Spanish. To complete this assignment we had to write a letter to our favorite teacher and tell them why they were our favorite teacher. I wrote my letter to Mr. Huth. This was a good opportunity to use the Spanish that I have learned and use it in a letter. I wouldn’t change anything about this artifact.

Growth Artifact: Pepe el desordenado

I chose to include this artifact because I think it demonstrates well my growth in Spanish class. Pepe el desordenado is a story that we began reading in class but then had to translate on our owns when Sra. Baedke was absent. I translated basically everything right. If I could change one thing I would change the parts that I messed up on, which I now understand. This artifact ultimately was a good indicator of how much I have learned this year in Spanish and how I have grown as a Spanish speaker.

Artifact #1 - Family PresentationThis artifact is a speaking artifact. I chose to include

this artifact because it demonstrates very well my overall growth as a Spanish speaker. I know enough Spanish now that I am able to present information in front of a class. If I had to change one thing, it would be my mistakes on the endings of some words (hermano).

This artifact is a collection of quizzes that is a reading artifact. I chose to include these quizzes because it shows my ability to read Spanish and comprehend it. It shows all of the vocabulary I have learned as well. If I were able to change one thing, I would have studied more over the vocabulary to score better on a couple of quizzes.

Reflection of GoalsQuarter 1: I was able to complete the 1st and 3rd goal right away

which helped me strive forward in Spanish. The 2nd goal, spelling words, is an ongoing goal that I continue to work on.

Quarter 2: Again, I am still working on spelling words as a goal. I wanted to try and improve my timed writing but I don’t believe we ever did another one. I was able to read a small story, Felipe, with few errors on the test.

Quarter 3: I am continuing to get better at spelling words. I was able to read Spanish paragraphs with no mistakes at all which is a giant leap as a Spanish speaker for me. I am now able to carry out a good conversation with maybe an error or two but less than when I first started.

Quarter 4: Lastly with the same goal of continuing to spell words better, my greatest goal this year was to read a simple story in Spanish and I have done it by reading “Pobre Ana”. I am also now able to carry out a good conversation because of the practice and new vocabulary I have obtained.

Reflection of StrategiesListening: To listen to everyone’s questions and learn from them.

Usually I had the same questions as other people.

Speaking: To think about what the word meant and see if it made sense, then ask a question if it still didn’t make sense

Reading: If I didn’t understand something, I would look for context clues to help me figure it out which helped me study. Then I would ask a question if I still didn’t understand it.

Writing: To write the word according to which vowel I heard and then just go from there. It ended up helping me study and help me learn vocabulary.

All of these strategies helped me study in class, but they also helped me study outside of class. Once I would learn something new, I would write it down and then be able to study it, practice it, and then memorize it.

Activities

One of the activities I enjoyed the most was the Pig game. It was fun and easy and it tested your knowledge of vocabulary. You would also know which specific words you needed to study. I also enjoyed dancing, mostly because I like dancing, but I also learned a bit about the Spanish culture.

Meaningful Experience

The most meaningful experience I had in Spanish this year would have been the time I failed my first vocabulary quiz. It showed me that Spanish would not be an easy course to pass. It would take a lot of effort in practice in order to pass. Now I just need to finish off the year strong.

Future Goals

My future goal in Spanish is to complete 4 years of Spanish class. Another goal is to continue learning so I am able to understand people who are native speakers. My last goal is to read a somewhat long book in Spanish. Those 3 goals would show how far I have gone in 4 years.
