THAT IS WHAT I WANT. I LIKE MY POSITION ALOT.

OF COURSE YOU STILL THINK ABOUT IT.

REMEMBER IT WAS ALSO HOME GAME FOR US. IT

WAS ALL PREPARED AND SET, AND IT JUST

    SHOULDNT HAVE HAPPENED. THERE WERE

CERTAIN REASONS FOR IT. OF COURSE YOU TRY

TO COME TO TERMS WITH IT, BUT IT DOESNT

REALLY WORK THAT EASILY. THE MATCH IS STILL

TOO PRESENT IN THE MIND. BUT ITS VERY MUCHA

winning the competition, then Schweinsteiger must play a

A VERY SPECIAL FINAL FOR ME.

10:22:28 After SOT May the 28th, 1997. Despite already making a big

impression in the first team, Dortmund-born Lars Ricken

had to watch from the substitutes bench in the Olympic

    RICKEN (GERMAN)

PEOPLE SAID ABOUT ME BACK THEN, AT THE AGE

OF 20, THAT I SCORED THE DECISIVE GOALS: I

SCORED THE OPENER AT MANCHESTER UNITED IN

THE SEMI-FINALS, AND THE OPENER IN THE MATCH

AT AUXERRE IN THE QUARTER FINALS; BACK THEN

THERE WAS STILL THE GOLDEN GOAL RULE, AND IF

THERE WAS ANYBODY WHO WOULD SCORE SUCH

GOALS, IT WAS LARS. I CAME INTO THE FINAL WITH

THAT SELF-CONFIDENCE, AND WAS EVEN A BIT

ANGRY BECAUSE I HADNT STARTED IN THAT

MATCH. AS FAR AS THE TEAMS PROGRESSION IN

THE TOURNAMENT WAS CONCERNED I HAD BEEN

10:23:21 After SOT When Juventus pulled a goal back through Alessandro Del

    RICKEN (GERMAN)

I NOTICED THAT PERUZZI WAS OFTEN STANDING

TOO FAR FROM HIS GOAL; AND IN FACT I ACTUALLY

CAME ONTO THE PITCH WITH THAT IN MY MIND,

THINKING: PERUZZI IS TOO FAR FROM HIS GOAL,

PERUZZI IS TOO FAR FROM HIS GOAL. AND THEN

THERE WAS THE SITUATION WHERE ANDREAS

MULLER PASSED ME THE BALL 5 SECONDS AFTER I

CAME ONTO THE PITCH, AND THAT DEVELOPED

INTO A GREAT CHANCE; EVEN THE TV REPORTERS

IN THEIR BOXES WERE SHOUTING LOB THE

KEEPER, SOMETHING LIKE THAT. SO IN THAT

MOMENT I WAS LUCKY: YOU SCORE A GOAL LIKE

THAT IN ONE OUT OF 10 ATTEMPTS, AND I HADNT

EVEN TOUCHED THE BALL YET THAT DAY. BUT THIS

ONE TIME IT WORKED, AND DESTINY WAS ON MY

    SIDE.

10:24:23 After SOT Rickens wonder-strike broke Juventus resistance.
