Magazine Show 26 Feature 1: Martin Demichelis

TIMEPICTURE:SOUNDCOMMENTARY

10:01:05From topThe history of the UEFA Champions League is littered with heart-warming success stories. Theres no doubt that one of this seasons took place at Mlaga. A large proportion of that success was built on the defensive rock that is Martn Demichelis. The Argentinean defender, at 32 years of age, has brought a wealth of experience to one of the meanest defences in the competition.

10:01:29SOT: MARTN DEMICHELIS (SPANISH)Well I think for a defender, especially a centre back, a certain AMOUNT OF EXPERIENCE is necessary to ENABLE YOU TO make fewer mistakes. The best defenders reach their peak at 30 or older. Of course I can make mistakes, but I always try to talk and communicate. In a lot of matches you can fail because of seconds, because of centimetres So because of my position on the pitch and my age and the way THAT I am, it is impossible for me to be quiet.

10:02:16After SOTAfter seven years at Bayern Munich, Demichelis swapped life with the Bundesliga giants for a new project at Mlaga, who had been fighting relegation in La Liga. At La Rosalleda, he was reunited with Manuel Pellegrini the coach he had played under at River Plate a decade earlier.

10:02:35SOT: MARTN DEMICHELIS (SPANISH)he was the decisive factor. That is what I have always said, that ManUEL Pellegrinis project convinced me to come here. And that is nothing against the club, but that is why I decided to come here to Mlaga. I knew him as a good person, I knew how he worked, and about his abilities to form a great team, a great group, and that his teams play in a determined way.

10:03:02After SOTWith Demichelis an inspirational presence at the back, Pellegrinis team boasted one of the tightest defences in the competition, and kept five clean sheets. That solid foundation allowed the rest of the team to flourish.

10:03:15SOT: MARTN DEMICHELIS (SPANISH)I think its a statistic you see with all of Pellegrinis teams. He has a special way of defending. We try to keep the forwards as far as possible from our goal, actually keep them away from our penalty area. That makes the opponents, the number nines who like to be close to the box or the goal, feel uncomfortable playing further away and further down the pitch. Chances can only be made by counter attacks, set pieces, or by a very precise pass. And that is something our coach tries to implement with us.

10:03:56After SOTIt was Demichelis goal against Panathinaikos in the play-off that kick-started the fairytale story this season. The tournament debutants brought pride and joy to the Mlaga supporters, and the experienced defender is in no doubt where the achievements of this season rank in his career.

10:04:13SOT: MARTN DEMICHELIS (SPANISH)playing in the uefa Champions League with Mlaga and having gone so far is more than a dream come true. Its an achievement which is not rewarded with a title or medal, but its a personal reward which is priceless, without a doubt.

10:04:39After demichelis on fans shirtAfter a goalless draw at home, Mlagas supporters travelled to Dortmund with belief that they may still achieve the unthinkable and reach the Semi-Finals. Manuel Pellegrini returned from Chile following the death of his father in time to take his place in the dugout. The BVB Stadion, full to its 66 thousand capacity, crackled with anticipation.

10:05:02After waving scarfThe Mlaga defence, marshalled by Demichelis stood resolute in the early stages.

10:05:11ActionDortmund, with home advantage, were expected by most to be too strong for the visitors but the Andalucians clearly hadnt read the script. Joaquns left foot strike handed Mlaga the crucial away goal. Their supporters dared to dream.

10:05:30On KloppAfter being frustrated for much of the half, the attacking trio of Gtze, Reus and Lewandowski finally combined to devastating effect to allow the Polish striker to net his 6th goal of the campaign. 1-1 at the break, it was advantage Mlaga.

10:05:48After Pellegrini The Spaniards continued to press and Roman Weidenfeller denied Joaqun his second. At the other end, Willy Cabellero was to perform his own heroics.

10:05:59After ReusBut Mlaga werent finished, Isco found Jlio Baptista, whose shot was tapped in by substitute Eliseu.

10:06:07On Demichelis gesture to heavensAs the clock ran down the celebrations began among the travelling supporters, but there was to be a twist in this remarkable tale.

10:06:17After ball hits netMarco Reus 91st minute strike would mean a nail-biting finale.

10:06:24On KloppThe noise levels inside the stadium reached fever pitch, and in the final minute of injury time, Felipe Santana poked home for one of the most dramatic comebacks in UEFA Champions League history.

10:06:35On Klopp celebsElation for Dortmund who were not at their best on the night, heartbreak for Mlaga and Martn Demichelis who may take some time to come to terms with the defeat.

10:06:46SOT: MARTN DEMICHELIS (SPANISH)WE KNEW SO FEW PEOPLE WOULD GIVE Mlaga A CHANCE HERE AFTER THE 0-0 AT HOME. BUT TO COME HERE, TO SCORE TWO GOALS, TO PUT THE WHOLE OF THE STADIUM IN A STATE OF PANIC, I THINK PEOPLE SHOULD APPRECIATE THIS Mlaga SIDE WHICH IN MY OPINION DESERVE TO GO THROUGH TO THE SEMI-FINALS.

Magazine Show 26 Feature 2: Lucas Moura & Ginola

TIMEPICTURE:SOUNDCOMMENTARY

10:07:13From TopThe City of Light also witnessed something special this season. After a seven year absence from the UEFA Champions League, Paris St Germain shone brightly they thrilled and entertained; a blend of experience and youthful promise. For one of their most exciting prospects, 20 year-old Brazilian midfielder, Lucas, reaching the Quarter-Finals was an adventure he wont forget.

10:07:34SOT: LUCAS:(PORTUGUESE) FOOTBALL HERE IN EUROPE IS DIFFERENT FROM BRAZIL. THE STYLE OF PLAY, EVEN THE GRASS, THE CLIMATE, ITS COLDER HERE; IN BRAZIL YOU DON'T HAVE THAT, AND IN EUROPE IT'S MUCH MORE COMPETITIVE, MUCH TOUGHER, SO I'M LEARNING QUITE A LOT IN THAT SENSE. IN THE UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE THE ATMOSPHERE IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT; IT'S THE BEST COMPETITION IN THE WORLD, SO FOR ME IT'S A PLEASURE AND A DREAM TO BE ABLE TO PLAY IN THE COMPETITION AND I WANT TO WIN IT ONE DAY. I WILL USE THIS OPPORTUNITY AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

10:08:09After SOTBorn and raised in So Paulo, Lucas, heralded as one of Brazils next star players, moved to Paris in January, joining a team assembled by Director of Football, Brazilian great, Leonardo.

10:08:21SOT:LUCAS:(PORTUGUESE)LEONARDO WAS THE ONE WHO CONVINCED ME TO COME TO PSG. HE CALLED ME MANY TIMES AND HE SHOWED A LOT OF INTEREST IN SIGNING ME. HE SPOKE ABOUT THE PLANS THAT THE CLUB HAD AND THAT WAS ATTRACTIVE. THEY ARE AN AMBITIOUS CLUB THAT'S GROWING A LOT. THERE ARE GREAT PLAYERS HERE AND THERE ARE OTHER BRAZILIANS HERE TOO, WHICH ALSO HELPED ME WITH MY DECISION TO SIGN FOR PSG.

10:08:49After SOTThe new look PSG impressed throughout this seasons UEFA Champions League, topping their group and advancing to the Quarter-Finals against Barcelona. In the first leg encounter at Park de Princes, the game finished 2-2.

10:09:09After fade to blackYou have to go back to 1995, to find the last time PSG made the last eight back then they were also drawn against the Spanish giants. In the PSG team another flamboyant, attacking wide man.

10:09:22SOT:DAVID GINOLA(FRENCH)

ITS EXCITING BECAUSE TODAY, PARIS ST GERMAIN IS GOING IN A NEW DIRECTION, AND WE KNOW THAT AT SOME POINT, GREAT TEAMS ARE BOUND TO MEET EACH OTHER. IF PSG HAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO PROVE TO THE REST OF THE WORLD THAT THEY ARE ON THE VERGE OF BECOMING A TEAM THAT CAN CONTEND IN BIG COMPETITIONS, THEN IT WILL BE IN THIS TYPE OF MATCH THAT THEYLL DO IT. THAT WILL MAKE PEOPLE IN THE FOOTBALLING WORLD RECOGNISE THEM AS A MAJOR TEAM.

10:09:47After SOTBack in 1995, the first leg at Camp Nou ended all square with a 1-1 draw.

10:09:54DAVID GINOLA(FRENCH)THE PLAYERS WERE EXTREMELY EAGER TO GET OUT AND PLAY THAT SECOND LEG, because we knew that the 1-1 draw in the first leg was a good result for us. We knew THAT we had scored that away goal, which was very important.

10:10:10After SOTIn the return leg, things didnt start well for PSG, Bakero gave Barcelona the lead. But with just under 20 minutes left the Brazilian, Ra levelled it.

10:10:25DAVID GINOLA(FRENCH)WE WERE LIKE A BULLDOZER. WE PUT SO MUCH PRESSURE ON THEM, IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF TIME, AND THE ONLY QUESTION WAS HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE US TO SCORE AGAIN.

10:10:38After SOTWith the game headed for extra time, Vincent Gurin, now a PSG coach scored the winner for the jubilant Parisians.

10:10:47DAVID GINOLA(FRENCH)BEATING BARCELONA WASNT A NORMAL FEELING FOR US. WE WON AND WE SHOWED THAT WE WERE ABLE TO DO INCREDIBLE THING AND TO COME BACK WHEN IT SEEMED UNLIKELY.

10:11:05After SOTThe 2013 side went into their second leg encounter at Camp Nou looking to emulate the team of 95 against the all-conquering Barcelona.

10:11:15playersKnowing they had to score to stand any chance of progressing, from the outset it was PSG who were more threatening.

10:11:23ActionBarcelona, without Lionel Messi, on the bench after injuring his hamstring in the first leg, enjoyed the lion-share of possession. But time again PSG tested Vctor Valds, Lucas coming close to giving the visitors the lead.

10:11:40After man reactionIn the second half, the French team continued their assault on the Barca goal and were rewarded in the 50th minute, Javier Pastore with an accomplished finished.

10:11:52After crowdWith Barcelona struggling for a breakthrough, a less than fully fit Messi was unleashed in the 62nd minute and just eight minutes later Barca were level. Messis burst decisive, Pedros finish, spectacular.

10:12:08After coachTry as they might PSG couldnt find the winning goal. One-all it finished on the night, three-all on aggregate. Barcelona advancing to a record sixth straight UEFA Champions League Semi-Final, on away goals.

10:12:21AfterUnbeaten over two games against Barcelona, there were plenty of positives for Paris St Germain to take from a campaign that saw them announce themselves as a major European force.

10:12:32SOT:LUCAS MOURA: (Portuguese)THEY WERE TWO VERY IMPORTANT GAMES AND WE DREW BOTH OF THEM. THEYRE A GREAT TEAM AND HAVE THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE WORLD. WE WERENT SCARED, WE TRIED OUR BEST AND DESERVED TO WIN, BUT IT WASNT POSSIBLE SO NOW WE HAVE TO GO HOME AND FIGHT FOR THE FRENCH TITLE.

2Magazine Show 26 Feature 3: Juventus- Fabio Quagliarella

TIMEPICTURE:SOUNDCOMMENTARY

10:15:08On second iso, after water drips downJuventus were desperate to restore some pride in their quarter-final second leg at home to Bayern Munich.

10:15:15On move from BuffonLucky to be only two-nil down after the first leg, this was a more evenly-match game. Andrea Pirlo came closest in the first half, while Paul Pogba failed to pick out a teammate from a promising position.

10:15:29On HeynckesAfter the break, Fabio Quagliarella almost provided that important opening goal.

10:15:35After ConteBut it was Bayern, always threatening, who struck first. Mario Mandzukic who was outstanding as the lone striker.

10:15:43Pizarros goalAn injury time substitute Claudio Pizarro added the gloss to an authoritative Bayern display. Through went the recently-crowned Bundesliga of champions.

10:15:52CrowdJuve may have been defeated but we look back now at a campaign, which should give them much reason for optimism.

10:16:01Hands playing piano Back in the competition for the first time in three years, Juve were set up by coach Antonio Conte to play a formation, rarely seen in the modern UEFA Champions League. 3-5-2 with a consistent midfield and defensive core. Buffon in goal, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini at the back. Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio in midfield

10:16:24Piano playingThe striking part of the equation was less easy to predict. Vucinic normally started, partnered by Matri, Giovinco or Quagliarella. Scorer of the vital equaliser in their opening group game away at Chelsea, which set the tone for their campaign.

10:16:42SOT: FABIO QUAGLIARELLA (ITALIAN)I THINK THAT IT WAS CRUCIAL, BECAUSE FROM THAT POINT WE REALISED THAT WE COULD FACE ANY TEAM. CHELSEA HAD JUST LIFTED THE CUP THREE MONTHS BEFORE AND WE HAD TO PLAY OUR FIRST MATCH THERE. AND EVEN THOUGH WE WERE TWO-NIL BEHIND, WE SHOWED GREAT CHARACTER, WE DIDNT GIVE UP AND WE GAINED OUR REWARD FOR THAT.

10:17:12 On handsJuventus went on to show Europe how theyd won the Italian league last season, unbeaten. They made light work of a difficult group, before easily overcoming Celtic in the Round of 16. Aside from Pirlo and Buffon, Juve have limited UEFA Champions League experience. The belief that they might upset Bayern in the quarters was testament to how quickly theyd adapted.

10:17:33SOT: FABIO QUAGLIARELLA (ITALIAN)ITS THE EXPERIENCE OF FACING OTHER DEFENDERS ON THE EUROPEAN STAGE, PLAYING AGAINST GREAT PLAYERS AND YOU REALISE THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO SUCCEED WITH YOUR MOVES, THAT YOU CAN SHOW YOUR ABILITY. AND THAT MEANS YOU ARE GROWING, THAT YOU ARE CONSTANTLY MATURING. AND THAT IS VERY SATISFYING.

10:17:56Piano playingIts not only the players who will have matured. Antonio Conte too will have learnt much in his first UEFA Champions League campaign as a coach. The 43-year-old arrived at Juve just two years ago and he has fast revolutionised a team that was struggling in Serie A.

10:18:12SOT: FABIO QUAGLIARELLA (ITALIAN)WELL, HE IS FUNDAMENTAL. I SAY FUNDAMENTAL BECAUSE JUVENTUS HAD TWICE FINISHED IN SEVENTH PLACE IN THE LEAGUE. HE THEN ARRIVED, BROUGHT HIS WAY OF THINKING AND ADAPTED OUR PLAY AND THAT HAS BORNE GREAT FRUIT.

10:18:30Piano playingIt was the first time Juve have reached the quarter-finals in seven years and its no disgrace to have lost to major contenders in Bayern Munich. Domestically Juve top Serie A again and should be back next season, stronger for this one and yearning to end what will be an 18-year UEFA Champions League drought. Conte, a player the last time they lifted this trophy, will not be resting on his laurels.

10:18:55SOT: FABIO QUAGLIARELLA (ITALIAN)HE HAS RARELY SPOKEN ABOUT THAT JUVENTUS TEAM. HE HAS TOLD THE ODD STORY ABOUT WHEN THEY LOST AND THATS WHEN NOBODY REALLY TOOK ANY NOTICE OF THEM ANY MORE.

10:19:06SOT: FABIO QUAGLIARELLA (ITALIAN)THE MENTALITY HAS ALWAYS BEEN TO WIN, TO WIN, TO WIN, SO WHAT HE SAYS IS THAT ONCE THE MATCH IS OVER IT BELONGS TO THE PAST. AND IN FOOTBALL, AT JUVENTUS FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOU DRAW IT FEELS LIKE A DEFEAT. HE ONLY WANTS VICTORIES, AND THATS HOW IT SHOULD BE.

Magazine Show 26 Feature 4: Christian Panucci

TIMEPICTURE:SOUNDCOMMENTARY

10:19:39SOT:CHRISTIAN PANUCCI: (ITALIAN)WINNING The UEFA Champions League is every players dream. You FIRST start thinking about it in July with the draw, WHEN YOU HEAR the music, AND THEN WHEN YOU PLAY THE first matches. thATS WHEN THE dreams OF GETTING TO THE FINAL BEGIN. Its A great honour being called A European Champion. The UEFA Champions league FILLS YOU WITH GREAT EMOTIONS, and now its even more difficult to win it. The COMPETITION is the PINNACLE OF FOOTBALL, ITS EXTREMELY PRESTIGIOUS. I played IN ALMOST 100 matches, AND iT really IS AN important part of my career.

10:20:31 After SOTFor Christian Panucci, now assistant coach with the Russian National team, the UEFA Champions League will forever hold special memories. Hes part of a select group of players who have won the competition for two clubs from two different countries. His first victory, with AC Milan, came in the 1994 final against Barcelona.

10:20:48SOT:CHRISTIAN PANUCCI: (ITALIAN)Playing thAT famous Barcelona Dream Team was certainly an extra motivation for us given the type of players we had in our squad. Cruyffs players had already taken photos with the cup before the match, I THINK they felt they were the favourites. But we were more serious than them, we wanted to win at any cost and WE NEVER GAVE UP. THAT NIGHT We played the perfect match, they barely touched the ball, IT WAS AS IF they wereNT on the pitch. I was only aBOUT 20 yearS old playing IN a UEFA Champions LEAGUE Final, so I was driven by the more experienced teammates, Baresi, Maldini, Tassotti, AND Costarcurta. The year before I was a young footballer fighting to become a professional and JUST a year later I was A Champion OF eUROPE.

10:21:44After SOT

Two years after winning the competition with Milan, Panucci moved to Real Madrid, becoming the first Italian to play for the club.

10:21:53SOT:CHRISTIAN PANUCCI: (ITALIAN)I remember they did not increase my AC Milan wageS even BY a penny. they TOLD ME THAT being a footballer WAS one thing, BUT being a Real Madrid player WAS ANOTHER THING ALTOGETHER AND THAT playING FOR THE CLUB WAS a great responsibility. they SOON extended my contract as well. To wear that shirt is SPECIAL, playing at the Bernabeu with ALMOST 100,000 fans was AN unbelievable, UNIQUE FEELING.

10:22:23After SOTPrior to Panuccis arrival, Real hadnt won the European Cup for three decades. The clubs long wait their seventh trophy ended in 1998 when they defeated Juventus.

10:22:34SOT:CHRISTIAN PANUCCI: (ITALIAN)AFTER 32 YEARS SEEING FOUR MILLION PEOPLE CELEBRATING WITH US IN MADRID WAS AN INCREDIBLE FEELING, ITS SOMETHING I WILL ALWAYS TAKE WITH ME, WE WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED AS THE HEROES OF THE CLUBS SEVENTH TITLE.

10:22:54After SOTPanucci left Madrid a year later and retired from Football in 2010. His long and illustrious career will forever be defined by his two UEFA Champions League titles.

Magazine Show 26 - Galatasaray v Real Madrid review

TIMEPICTURE:SOUNDCOMMENTARY

10:23:12Teams outReal Madrid remain on course for a tenth European cup, but were given a scare by Galatasaray.

10:23:18Ronaldo 1Looking to overturn a 3-0 first leg defeat, the task for the Turkish side was made even more difficult after just seven minutes. Cristiano Ronaldo scoring in his fifth consecutive UEFA Champions League game.

10:23:33Eboue goalAfter weathering a first half storm, Gala pulled a goal back in the 57th minute. Emanuel Ebou with the spectacular strike.

10:23:43Sneijder goalWith twenty minutes left Fatih Terims winter signings struck twice in two minutes. First Wesley Sneijder with his first goal for the club in the competition.

10:23:56Drogba goalThen Didier Drogba cooly struck his 40th UEFA Champions League goal and first since last seasons final.

10:24:05After replayBut inevitably, it was Ronaldo who had the final say. His second of the game in injury time was his 11th in Europe this season.

10:24:15Full TimeSo Jos Mourinho is in to a record equalling seventh semi-final, as Madrid remain on course for that elusive 10th European crown.
