civic involvement➽ The Helping Hands Committee has assisted on or completely built several

valuable projects:

❱ Built a handicap ramp on the home of a veteran and retrofitted the bathroom.❱ Installed the playground equipment at Jim Darcy School.❱ Remodeled the home for an individual involved in an accident who is now a quadriplegic.

➽ Assist Habitat for Humanity in a home builds.

➽ HBIA adopted a room at the YWCA and completely renovated it from floor to ceiling and completely furnished it.

➽ Coordinated with NWE to develop the “FAST PROCESS” that gives HBIA Members accelerated processing for new residential gas and electrical service.

➽ Participated on the Helena Housing Task Force to determine the future needs of housing in our community.

➽ Annually conduct a silent auction of items donated by our Members at the HBIA Christmas Party. We have donated $35,000 to local residents in need.

➽ Successful at the 2011 legislature to exclude mandatory residential fire sprinklers from being implemented in all new L&C homes, saving thousands of added costs to homes.

➽ Instrumental in the passage of a piece of legislation last session that provides $15 million dollars for Montana military veterans to buy a home.

➽ HBIA successfully nominated a Member for appointment by the governor to the State of Montana Building Codes Board.

➽ Assisted local and state solid waste businesses in securing legislation to protect against intrusion into their business by local government jurisdictions.

➽ HBIA Members hold three Executive Board Positions on the Montana Building Industry Association.

➽ HBIA representation on the county working group was key in shaping the l&C County Septic Maintenance Program.

➽ HBIA Members strongly supported the candidacy of Derek Brown for County Commissioner. Commissioner Brown is a long-time Member and past HBIA President in 2003.

➽ Participated in the re-write of the City Growth Policy.

➽ HBIA has two Members on the City/County Impact Fee Advisory Board.

➽ Coordinated with the l&C County Commission staff to resolve the approach permit problem and improve the process.

➽ Participating with the L&C County Commission in the potential county wide zoning proposal discussions.

➽ Actively involved in the current re-write of the City of Helena Sub-Division Regulations.
