Bene�tting tremendously from the development of luminescence dating equipment during the last decade and accompanied by improved measurement proto-cols, nowadays luminescence data is produced more and more rapidly. Especially for non-standard dating routines proprietary software solutions are limited. Due to increasing complexity, newly introduced measurement protocols and coping with the needs of �exible data handling, Kreutzer et al. (2012) introduced an R pa-ckage called ‘Luminescence’, designed for luminescence data analysis and visualisation. The package provides a set of tools for this purpose and is continuously under development.

A place where you can ask

questions and discuss problems, con-cerning the luminescence package, with

other users. If you got stuck with an age model or need some help to adopt the functions serving your

needs, place your request at the bulletin board.All you have to do, is to register and post your concern.

You will get access to the board via the R.Luminescence-website, by clicking the button Board in the menue.

The R-Package Luminescence

Based on the open source

statistic software R , the Luminescence package provides a large number of func-

tions to analyse, calculate, model and visualise all kind of data produced by a large variety of measure-

ment protocols. One of its major advantages is the possibi-lity to generate high quality plots which can be adopted to

almost any kind of user requirements.

The main parts of the package are:

• data import (bin-, csv- and txt-files)

• data analysis (analyse_xxx functions)

• data modelling (linear modulation)

• data calculation (e.g. age models)

• data visualisation (plot functions)

• data sets (a few examples for a quick start)
