Introduction• Welcome to Maxis

Mobile Campaign Manager, the easiest and fastest way to get started in mobile marketing.

• Everything you need to get started is found on the portal-Design Wizard, Cross-Operator coverage, Contacts Management, Analytic Reports.

Getting Started• You should receive an Email from your Administrator with your User

ID and Password

• All you need to use Campaign Manager is a web-browser. Logon to https://s-esms.maxis.net.my and select the ‘Campaign Manager’ option

SMS 2FA• As part of the login process, you will be prompted to enter a mobile

number to receive SMS One-Time Passwords during login. For non-local mobile numbers, please include mobile number country code.

• Subsequently, you still can change the the mobile number to receive SMS OTP under the Profile section of the ESMS Portal.

-Execute:Get your design turned into real action

-Analyse:Analyse the campaign respond and results, use this info to fine-tune

and improve future Campaigns

Mobile Campaign Basics Mobile Push and Pull Campaigns

• A Mobile Campaign may or may not include a SMS Broadcast as part of the campaign design. One that uses a SMS Broadcast is called a Push Campaign)

• One that does not include a broadcast is called a ‘Mobile Pull campaign’. Mobile Pull campaigns uses off-line means (Newspaper, TV, Radio ads) to attract mobile users to send in their SMS messages.

• Both approaches can be combined for an effective Campaign. See best Practise section for more details.

Campaign Manager BasicsCampaign Types

There are 6 basic types of Campaigns you can create:

1) Contest: Winners are selected based on Contest rules

2) Quiz: Winners are selected based on Quiz performance

3) Vote: Vote for a favourite from a selection of choices

4) Survey: Gather freeform opinions and feedback for a series of questions

5) 1-way Broadcast: Announce your new product or launch event, no interaction needed

6) Mobile Inbox:Receive Customer feedback and Opinions

• Click on the Campaign section• On the sub-menu and choose a Campaign type

• The 1st Step in each Campaign is to give it a name • You can choose to set this campaign as a Pull Campaign, in which

case no SMS broadcast message is necessary.

• An essential part of every interactive Campaign is the Keyword which mobile users will include in their messages sent to your campaign.

• The other essential part of each Campaign is the broadcast message. For interactive Campaigns, use the ‘Auto-fill’ function to insert a pre-defined message which you can further edit.

• If you have a long URL in your message content you can use the URL shortening function to save on the size of the SMS message content.

Select URL Shortener option to convert long URLs into shorts ones.

By shortening a long URL, you can also track when a mobile recipient clicks on your hyperlink, and view this data in the Campaign Report.

Select Enable Opt-Out option to insert a hyperlink for recipients to unsubscribe.

Designing a CampaignUnsubscribe URL Link

You can easily allow your mobile recipients to unsubscribe from your subsequent SMS broadcasts by applying the placeholder #UNSUB# in your message content.

The unsubscribe link will be of the format https://s-esms.maxis.net.my/s/xhue23F when it arrives on the mobile handset. You can view the unsubscribe data in the Campaign Report.Subsequent broadcasts will exclude recipients who had unsubscribed.

You can find the history of your recipients who had unsubscribed under Contacts⇒ Unsubscribes

You can choose to undo an unsubscribe if needed.

Designing a CampaignPersonalisation using Placeholders

You can use placeholders when composing the message to personalise your broadcast.Simply use the placeholder tags where you wish the personalised words to appear in your SMS message. #CONTACTNAME# = Name #PLACEHOLDER1# = Custom 1 #PLACEHOLDER2# = Custom 2The values in the respective fields of your contacts’ details will be used in place of the placeholder tags in the message.

• You can also send your broadcast message in Chinese. Enter the Chinese message and select the ‘Send Chinese Message’ option. (See Appendix on how to enable Chinese input on your PC)

• Please note that you are able to send a long message of more than 160 characters and have this arrive on your recipient's mobile phones as a single message.

• Each 160 characters will still be billed as 1 message.

• This feature is supported for Maxis numbers only. Digi and Celcom users will receive the long message in multiple parts.

• To select the recipients who will receive the Campaign message, drag to the right box, the recipient groups that you had setup in the Contacts section.

• At the final step, there are some advanced options you can set for sending the Campaign at a later time, or for changing the duration of the campaign. If all looks fine, you can click “Start Campaign” to begin the Campaign!

Quiz and Survey Campaigns• For Quiz and Survey Campaigns, a Welcome SMS is

sent prior to the 1st Question. This to announce the start of the Campaign and introduce the recipient to what the Campaign is about.

Quiz and Survey Campaigns

• A Quiz or Survey campaign requires you to setup all the questions and answers that will be interacting with Campaign participants.

Vote Campaigns• For Vote Campaigns, you must create the choices for

your Votes.• You can let your mobile participants only vote once or for

as many times as they like

QuickSend• The QuickSend feature allows you to send a message quickly to a

small number of recipients.

Managing Your Recipient Contacts• To setup mobile recipients for your campaigns, you can create

Contacts information online, or upload a text file containing your mobile numbers.

Managing Your Recipient Contacts• To upload a file containing your contacts (both local and

international mobile numbers), click on “Add Group”. The following screen should appear. Select your file containing your mobile numbers to be uploaded.

Managing Your Recipient ContactsTo upload a file containing your contacts, use the following formats:

• Local Numbers: Mobile Number without the 6 prefix, with each number separated by a line break

• International Numbers: Country Code [tab] Mobile Number , with each number separated by a line break

• Each number is separated by a new line. You can mix in international numbers but the country code of the international number has to be separated from the main number by a ‘tab’.

• You can also upload local and international numbers as 2 separate files.

Add Individual Contacts• You can add contacts individually by clicking on “Add

Contacts” and then “Add Contacts Manually”. A form will appear for you to enter the contact details.

International Numbers• You will notice that in Contacts Management, each Contact’s mobile

number has a ‘Country Code’ field. Please enter the correct country code prefix of your non-local contact here. You can thereafter send SMS to this contact via Campaign Manager.

• For local numbers, leave this prefix as “6”

Contacts with PersonalisationPlaceholders

• You can add personalization values for each individual contact by using the Custom 1, Custom 2 and Custom 3 fields.

Enter personalized values such as account number, service plan etc. for use during a SMS broadcast.These values are represented by the placeholder text #PLACEHOLDER1# #PLACEHOLDER2#and #PLACEHOLDER3#

Contact name is represented by the placeholder text #CONTACTNAME#

To include personalised values, prepare your contacts file in this Format:Mobile Number, Name, Email, Custom 1, Custom 2, Custom 3

An example of the file upload format is as follow:

• Each value is separated by a comma, and each number is separated by a new line. You can mix in international numbers but the country code of the international number has to be separated from the main number by a ‘tab’.

Viewing Campaign Results• Campaign Manager enables you to view the results of your

Campaigns in great detail.

• Navigate to the ‘Reports’ tab and choose a Campaign to view reports for.

• Please ensure that you have the permission to send SMS to the recipient to avoid complaints of spam

• Create and organise your Recipient Lists before hand, so when you reach the recipient selection step of the Campaign wizard, you just have to select the List you intend to send your Campaign to.

• When creating a Contest campaign, make sure to offer a reasonably attractive prize for winning the contest. This will contribute directly to how well your Campaign does in terms of responses and interest.

• Use the ‘Reply by’ time limit tool to leverage on the human impulse to reply within the time limit.

Appendix: Enabling Chinese character Input in Windows

• On your computer, go to Control Panel> Regional Language options

• Under the “Languages” tab, select “Install files for East Asian languages”.

• You may be prompted for your Windows installation CD at this point.

• Next, click the “Details” button here

• Click the “Add” button and select “Chinese (PRC) as a input language.

• Click the “Language Bar” button and check “Show the Language bar on the desktop”

• Click “OK’ on all windows.

• A “Language Bar” toolbar should now appear on your desktop allowing you to choose you character input method using English or Chinese!
