Technical Developments by Daniel Schmidt Messi

& Carlos Fermino (Engs.)

Active optics tests (Torino)

• With Daniele Gardiol & Federico

Russo

Performed task:

• Segment motion

• Data colection and callibration

• Repeatability verification

• Teatching hardware & software

Beckhoff

M1 Interface elaboration (Catania)

• W/ Matteo Munari, Salvo Scuderi,

Enrico Giro, Luca Stringhetti, Elisa

Antolini

Performed task:

• Actuator configuration as in CANopen

• Screens preparation for driving motors

• interface implementation with users,

scheduling tests, etc.

• Teaching on operation of logics for

future change and implementation

• Teatching hardware & software

Beckhoff

Technical Developments by Renato Gimenes

(Eng.)

FEE DE0 Nano Adapter PCB (Camera in Palermo)

- Connects a FEE (Front End Electronics) board to a general

purpose FPGA board (TerasIC's DE0 Nano w/ Altera's Cyclone IV

FPGA);

- Contains LVDS drivers, voltage regulator, voltage amplifier,

configuration resistors and jumpers, connectors, prototyping area;

- Allows for reliable test of the FEE boards (~50 units) on the

manufacturer site;

- DE0 Nano board runs custom test firmware which evaluates all

signals of the FEE boards.

Technical Developments by Renato Gimenes (Eng.)

Thermal Model Validation / Condition Monitoring (in Catania)

- Specification of reliable and robust DAQ system and sensors, cabling, fastening

acessories, to be used in the thermal model validation of ASTRI telescope;

- Already available at OACT: Agilent 34980A (suitable for thermal model validation,

but not for the Condition Monitoring as first suggested – not enough bandwidth as

per the CTA guidelines).

- Thermal model validation to be conducted after the harsh winter in SLN;

- Condition Monitoring yet to be concluded (Beckhoff PLC available at the THCU

(Telescope Health Control Unit) – already with proper accelerometer DAQ cards).

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

• Young Investigator in High Energy Theoretical

and Observational Astrophysics
