THE OPENING HYMN: #357‘LOW IN THE GRAVE HE LAY’

Low in the grave He lay, Jesus my Savior!Waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave He arose,With a mighty triumph o’er His foes;He arose a victor from the dark domain,And He lives forever with His saints to reign. He arose! He Arose! Hallelujah–Christ arose.

(1)

Vainly they watch His bed, Jesus my Savior!Vainly they seal the dead, Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave He arose,With a mighty triumph o’er His foes;He arose a victor from the dark domain,And He lives forever with His saints to reign. He arose! He Arose! Hallelujah–Christ arose.

(2)

Death cannot keep his prey, Jesus my Savior! He tore the bars away, Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave He arose,With a mighty triumph o’er His foes;He arose a victor from the dark domain,And He lives forever with His saints to reign. He arose! He Arose! Hallelujah–Christ arose.

SILENT PRAYERS OFTHANKSGIVING AND CONFESSION

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON Corinthians 15:51,52,57

Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed. Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

THE FIRST NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURE

Matthew 28:1-10

Rev. Roy Lee

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.

The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him. Now I have told you.” So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

Suddenly Jesus met them and greeted them. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him.

Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers and sisters to go to Galilee; There they will see me.”

THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic1 Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen

THE SECOND NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURE

John 20:1-9Rev. Roy Lee

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”

So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.
