COMMITTEES: Asking for your Prayers
On April 16th 2019, this Tuesday, it will be 40 years, since I have been ordained a priest. On this occasion, I am asking you to please pray that I may be a simple instrument in the Hand of The Lord, Jesus Christ to serve His People for a few more years with fidelity and dedication. The path I have walked during the past 40 years of my priestly life has been filled with, above all, many blessings, however, not without Crosses, which I had to bear. On April 16th, 1978, Sunday, just before my Ordination ceremony began, The Lord showed me the Cross of pain with an unexpected event: My mother was taken to the hospital under emergency. Rather than looking at that event as a mere physical problem, my mind reminded me that my priestly life was going to be not mere of joys and jubilations; rather it would be with unforeseen hardships. My mind and heart were prepared to face the Cross at that moment. From that moment till today, my faith in The Lord, which was formed by my parents, has been my strength in every ups and downs of my priestly life. I am always grateful to my parents for this great gift of faith. During the course of my priestly life, my spiritual-life-giving force has been the Eucharist. Every time, when I celebrated the Holy Mass, it has been a new experience for me of Jesus, really present in the Eucharist. Hence, I never felt bored, nor did I felt a routine ceremony to celebrate Mass. I thank The Lord, for having blessed me with this experience and giving me the life-giving strength to fulfill my priestly ministry. I did not think that I would end up with serving you during the last part of my priestly life. As I have told a few people during my personal conversation, I came to La Crosse Diocese in July 2006 just for only one year, sabbatical and go back to India at the end of the year. I wanted such a change, because after my Doctorate in Canon Law through the Urban University in Rome in 1990, I have been working in the Diocesan Office and for the National Bishops’ Conference in India. I wanted a break and so I landed here; but The Good Lord has had a different plan and made me work here since then. Today I am grateful that I am able to serve you as your Pastor and thank The Lord for having given me this opportunity.
At this juncture, I turn to you and make only one request that you please pray for me to serve you with greater dedication. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Arul Joseph V.

SOME WORDS ABOUT HOLY WEEK
Every year since my arrival in 2010, I have failed to get a message out to all of you, dear brothers and sisters, concerning the significance of Holy Week and the Sacred Triduum. I am trying to rectify that situation today by sending some thoughts to deepen your awareness and appreciation for the holiest time of the year in our life of Divine Grace. Holy Week begins with Passion (Palm) Sunday. The Passion of Our Blessed Lord is read from one of the Synoptic Gospels (this year we hear from Luke’s Gospel). The Passion is sung or proclaimed chorally from John’s Gospel on Good Friday each year. The pious custom of our Holy Church finds us gathered mid-week (we have settled for Tuesday) to celebrate the Chrism Mass. The Tradition usually sets this Mass for the morning of Holy Thursday since it marks the institution of the Priesthood by our Blessed Lord. As so many things in our lives have been marked by expediency, we in the Diocese of La Crosse have set Tuesday of Holy Week as our day to celebrate fully and totally the gift of the priesthood. The Chrism Mass unites the entire Presbyterate, Diaconate, and complete Faithful of Christ’s Mystical Body with the Bishop at one place, the Diocesan Cathedral, the Mother Church of the Diocese. Gathered around one altar and as one believing community, we celebrate the unity and institution of the priesthood, the Consecration of the Sacred Chrism (used at all Baptisms, Confirmations, and Priestly Ordinations in the Diocese for the coming year), priestly recommitment to their promise of obedience to the Diocesan Bishop, and the unity of the Diocesan and Universal Church with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the Eucha-rist. The Chrism Mass is the highlight of Diocesan life in union with the universal Church. It is a must for all Catholics to attend at least once in their lives. With that being said, I should point out that none of the ceremonies of Holy Week: Chrism Mass, Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper (Holy Thursday), Friday of the Passion of the Lord (Good Friday), Solemn Easter Vigil (Saturday before Easter), are obligatory—that is, you are not obliged to participate as you are on Sundays or Holy Days of obli-gation. Again, I heartily invite you to attend and participate in the full celebration of the Holy Week services at least once in your life. Easter—the Solemnity of the Resurrection of the Lord—marks the central mystery of our faith. We commemorate the Resurrection and reaffirm our faith each and every Sunday. So, I wish you the depths of God’s Grace for Holy Week and the Abundant Blessings of Easter—I’ll see you at Sunday Mass!
~ Deacon
PRAYER FOR PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS
O God of all the nations, the one God who is and was and always will be, in your providence you
willed that your Church be united to the suffering of your Son. Look with mercy on your servants
who are persecuted for their faith in you. Grant them perseverance and courage to be worthy
imitators of Christ. Bring your wisdom upon leaders of nations to work for peace among all
peoples. May your Spirit open conversion for those who contradict your will, that we may live in
harmony. Give us the grace to be united in truth and freedom, and to always seek your will in our
lives. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE, PRAY FOR US.
Global Outreach Catholic Exchange Program is looking for Host Families for 2019-2020 school year.
Have you ever wanted to make a difference in the life of a person, to do something really great for someone
whose life will never be the same because of you?
We are looking for families to host Catholic students from East–Central Europe for the next school year,
(Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia). These students will attend Pacelli Catholic High School.
We need loving families to provide room, board, and transportation for the
school year. By hosting, you will be offering a young person the chance of a lifetime. Your own family will also be
greatly impacted and enriched by generously opening yourselves up to
a Global Outreach student.
