Remembrance Day: We conducted a brief
Remembrance Day assembly last
Wednesday and held a minute silence at
11am, in memory of those who sacrificed
their lives or suffered in all wars and armed
conflicts.
Parent Community Survey regarding OOSH:
We would like to offer families more
flexibility with their work commitments and
child care arrangements and to create more
opportunities across the whole community.
Having Out of School Hours Care available at
local schools is a great way to achieve this.
As part of the NSW Government’s $120
million Before and After School Care (BASC)
commitment, parents at all NSW schools
were recently invited to complete a Have
Your Say survey. The survey asked parents to
tell us how they are using Out of School
Hours Care, how much it costs them,
whether they plan to keep using it, and
what difficulties they experience in
accessing it. The survey results have helped
us to better understand the needs of
families and what’s important to them.
We are now asking all parents to complete a
quick follow-up survey by Friday 27
November 2020. You can access the survey
at https://surveys.education.nsw.gov.au/s3/
OSHCParentSurvey. This information will
help us to target the rollout of more Out of
School Hours Care services in the right
areas.
If your child does not require Out of School
Hours care, we ask that you please still
complete the first section of this survey as it
gives us important information about the
level of demand at your school.
If you have any questions, please feel free to
contact the BASC Program team by phone
on 1300 244 145 or email at:
School Planning: In the previous
Newsletter, I had mentioned some of the
strategic directions that we, as the school
community, would like to initiate in our
2021 to 2024 School Plan. These directions
would help us to improve on areas that
were highlighted in our Situational Analysis
and the surveys.
Over the past few weeks, our staff and
senior students discussed ideas for school

improvement. We really value your input
and feedback on the areas that you would
like to see the school improve on or see
implemented as a new program. We are now
ready to develop a new school vision
statement for the next four years and then to
write our new four year school plan. This is
the time to collaborate together and discuss
the directions that we need to take to enable
us to make Ulong Public School the best
possible school. I will be holding a forum in
the coming weeks to get your input. There
will be a note coming out with the dates and
I would encourage at least one parent or
family member per family to attend the
session.
Intensive Swimming: Students are
thoroughly enjoying Intensive swimming and
are learning
some valuable
lifesaving skills.
Nesting Boxes: Last
Friday, our students
got to learn more
about fires and its effects on our
environment and wildlife. Students were
excited to build their nesting boxes to provide
shelter to our local species as we lost a lot of
tree hollows that normally provided shelter
to our wild life. The students will be
decorating them and we will get Mr Malone
to install them on our suitable trees.
STEM Egg Challenge: The students enjoyed
an Egg Drop Challenge as their STEM activity.
They had to design a container that would
allow an egg to safely fall from varying
heights without breaking. This challenge
helped students explore basic concepts such
as gravity, force and acceleration.
Sustainability Excursion: As part of our
Sustainability Project, the students enjoyed
an excursion to the Botanical Gardens and
met the horticulturalist. They learnt about
pollination and looked at the different parts
of a plant through magnifying glasses. They
explored gardens from various countries
without flying such as Japanese and Indian
gardens. The students also enjoyed a healthy
lunch on the lush green grass at the Botanical
Gardens and were presented with little plants
to take home .

Kindergarten Orientation: Our future
Kindergarten students have been enjoying
their Kindergarten Orientation and have been
participating in some fun activities and
getting to know their school friends. Don’t
they look great in their red shirts? Our next
orientation days will be on Tuesday 1st and
Monday 14th December, 2020.
Have a great week.
