19TH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME August 11, 2019
Our Parish Mission Statement
We, the Catholic Church of Desoto Parish, embrace the universal mission
of the Church. As members of the Body of Christ, the Holy Spirit calls us
together to worship the Father: By celebrating God’s presence among us in
both Word and Sacrament; by proclaiming the Good News of Jesus’
redemptive death and resurrection and by expressing God’s unconditional,
liberating and healing love in our service to others in the world.
Weekend Celebrant– Fr. Tim Hurd
IN REFLECTION
Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not be afraid any longer, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom. ~Luke 12:32
In whom do you trust? Abraham and Sarah were an
elderly, childless couple living in a foreign land, but
Abraham trusted God’s promise that one day he would
have descendants “as numerous as the stars.” How
could he believe this? Hebrews says it was because “the
one who had made the promise was trustworthy.” In a
challenging and uncertain world, let us put our trust in
our loving God.
Each of today’s readings assures us that we can always
trust in God. Wisdom reminds us that the Chosen
People’s courage came from their faith in God’s
promises. Hebrews recalls Abraham’s unwavering faith
in God’s promise to him. Jesus asks his disciples to
have faith in what they cannot know, like when the
master will return from a wedding. We cannot know
the future, but we can know whom to trust.
Question of the week: Considering that the end may come
at any time, am I prepared? What can I do to prepare
myself for my end time?

ST. JOSEPH BIBLE STUDY
We have begun a new study Genesis to Jesus; Journey
through Scripture. This is a twelve-part video series that
surveys the principal covenants that God made with his
people through figures such as Adam, Noah, Abraham,
Moses and David. It also shows how each of these
covenants points forward to and is fulfilled by Jesus Christ
and his Church. Participants will see a panoramic vision of
salvation history and our place in this story.
It is not too late to join us. Classes are Mondays at
9:00 AM and again at 6:00 PM in the Parish Hall.
We will have a birthday breakfast for Fr. Crispin before
bible study on Monday morning and birthday cake for him
before bible study in the evening. Everyone is invited to
attend both the celebrations and the bible study.
