OUR GRADUATION CELEBRATION IS

HeldatBoulevardBeirut,AinMreisseh,thegraduationpartythisyearwasoutstandingbyallstandards.Itwasextraspecialasitwitnessedthegraduationofthefirstfellowinthehistoryofourdepartment,Dr.SaraFaour,asaspecialistinReproductiveEndocrinologyandInfertility.Startingatsunset,afestiveambiencefilledtheplaceasthegatheringdancedtoorientalmusicbyKanjiworkshopandmusicremixbyDJMitri.Bittersweetfeelingsoverwhelmeduswhilebiddingfarewelltoourgraduatingresidentsandfellow.GoodluckSara,Salma,Elie,Rami,AnastasiaandSandraandkeeponshining.

TheDivisionofMaternalFetalMedicineattheDepartmentofOBS/GYNandincollaborationwiththeContinuingMedicalEducation(CME)officeatAUBMCorganizedthefirstOB-GYNUltrasoundWorkshop.Thethree-dayCMEaccreditedworkshopbytheLebaneseOrderofPhysicians(LOP)washeldonMarch31-April2,2016andwasattendedbybothIraqiandLebaneseOBS/GYN.Itconsistedofsixmodulesthatcoveredallaspectsoffetalultrasonography,withemphasisonprenataldiagnosisandperinatalmanagement,throughdidacticandinteractiveseminars,inadditiontohands-onlivescanning.InvitedfacultymembersincludedDrs.AnwarNassar,IhabUsta,AbdallahAdra(activitydirector),LabibGhulmiyyah,FadiMirzaandRabihChahine,inadditiontoDr.GeorgesHaddadfromtheCollegeFrancaisD’EchographieFoetale.

MAYSSA RISHANI … FAREWELLTwoyearsago,Ms.MayssaRishanijoinedourdepartmentasaResearchAssistant.Inadditiontoherresearchtaskswhichincludedrecruitingpatientsandcollectingandanalyzingdata,Mayssawasinvolvedinmedicalchartauditing.Throughoutthetwoyears,Mayssaportrayedexceptionalperformance,professionalismanddedication.Today,webidMayssafarewellasshehasdecidedtopursuehercareerelsewhere,wishingherthebestofluckwherevershemightgo!Mayssayouwillbedefinitelymissed.

RAMADAN ACTIVITIESOnJuly4,2016,andasayearlytraditionnow,anIftarwasheldbytheresidencyprogramforallthetraineesontheterraceofAbdElWahabrestaurant.TheIftarfollowedameetingwithallthehousestaff.Itwasagreatgettogetherandanoccasion,especiallyforthenewresidentsinthedepartment,tominglewiththeircolleaguesawayfromthebusyworkplace.

SEVENTH RESEARCH DAYOnJune11,2016,elevenresidentspresentedtheirresearchproposalsandpapersduringtheSeventhResearchDaywhichwasheldatGefinorRotanaHotel,Beirut.Thiseventwhichhasbecomeanannualactivityensuresthatallresidentsareinvolvedinresearchprojects,whichinfactisarequirementforgraduatingasOBS/GYNresidents.ThewinnersthisyearwereDr.SergeMattarforthebestresearchpaperandDr.SuleimanGhunaimforthebestresearchproposal.Congratulations.

ACADEMIC NEWS• Dr.FadiMirzawasaninvitedspeakeratthe2ndMiddleEastVaccinesSummitheldinIstanbul,TurkeyonApril29-30andatthe20thAinShamsOBS/GYNInternationalConferenceheldinCairo,EgyptonMay25-26.HewasalsoaninvitedspeakerataninfertilitycongressorganizedbyHotel-DieuDeFranceincollaborationwiththeLebaneseSocietyofObstetricsandGynecology(LSOG).

Dr.AtallahistheBoardDirectoroftheMiddleEastSocietyofSexualMedicine(MESSM)whichaimsatpromotingsexualhealthintheMiddleEast.SheistheChairpersonofMESSM’sPublicAwarenessCommitteeandamemberofitsCommunicationandScientificCommittees.
