Greetings from Fr. Dan
As we enter this Holy Week, certainly a Holy Week at the end of the, perhaps, most unique Lenten experience of our lives, may we take advantage of this uniqueness this year. By that I mean we have an opportunity to use our social distancing as not only a time to shake us out of our routines, our habits, and comfort zones, but a time to renew, revitalize, re-captivate, re-energize our relationship with the Lord. Most years, we have all those other “things” in life to “get done” this time of year and in 2020, many of those “things” are just not doable. We have this unique opportunity to invite the Lord into our social distancing and let Him fill us up with all He has in mind for each of us if we allow Him to do just that. Perhaps it’s easiest to begin with just a simple and short conversation with Him offering your sincere invitation and let the rest of the week be filled with his caring and loving RSVP. The remainder of this article was contained in a recent eblast to our parishioners and is reprinted here: Getting used to this “social distancing” thing is neither easy nor desirable, however, I realize it’s “the right thing to do” like eating oatmeal. I’d rather have the oatmeal. I made a decent pot roast last night but it didn’t take up as much time I was hoping it would to help me avoid more time in front of the TV. Enough news and commentary and all that goes with it, already. Little by little, we make it through. Good time to read those books you never got around to read or see the movies that you haven’t seen in awhile to help pass the time. And then there’s that closet you’ve been meaning to get too...ugh! Maybe tomorrow! Luckily, there’s plenty to read on different Catholic blogs to nourish the soul at least a bit, but like reading books and watching TV, you can’t look at blogs all day long. Good to get the prayer time in but I’m not ready for the monastery yet. Taking a look at America magazine, the Jesuit biweekly can offer some timely perspectives on what the world is going through right now. A recent article offered ways for us to be the Body of Christ when the coronavirus has closed our churches. It was a good reminder for all of us that while the Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith and the most tangible place to encounter the Body and Blood of Christ, we can find the presence of Christ in the Scriptures. Many Catholic publishers, like “Give Us This Day” and “Magnificat” are providing free access to their materials right now. Mass is fairly easily found online with daily and Sunday Masses being livestreamed and posted on our parish website https://marymotherofdivinegrace.org. Cardinal will celebrate Mass Sunday mornings at 9:30am on ABC for the time being, as well as many other opportunities for online and televised Masses. I found it helpful to be reminded that we will all have opportunities to encounter the Body of Christ in the vulnerable in the coming weeks, albeit at an appropriate distance. If you have the privilege of being healthy and at low risk for complications from the virus, perhaps there’s a way to check-in with an isolated person next door or down the block, perhaps make a meal or get some groceries for a more vulnerable person nearby? A newfound homeschooling parent would probably appreciate a phone call from a neighbor willing to listen about that newfound “opportunity”! And taking care of ourselves these days is an important way to be taking care of the Body of Christ too, don’t forget. After all, when we gather for Eucharist, we are the Body of Christ and we are in this together on a level much deeper that just sharing the same society and culture. We’re all children of God who need a little extra care right now. Keeping that in mind might just help us through this temporary period of sacrifice, frustration, anxiety, and everything else that will lead us one day to the joy of renewal, resurrection and Easter. Let’s keep each other in prayer, okie dokie? Fr. Dan

“Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord;
hosanna in the highest” (Matthew 21:9).
With these words the Church enters the holiest of weeks, commemorating the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ. When the people of Jerusalem cried out with their “hosannas,” they were using an ancient Hebrew shout of acclamation that meant “Pray, save us.” The king to whom they were shouting eventually would save them, but in a way that would be far from what they expected. Salvation would come from the wood of the cross as Jesus hung there to bring freedom from sin and life through death, opening the gates of heaven for all who put their faith and trust in him. HOLY THURSDAY The Triduum is the whole of our faith in three days, the Paschal Mystery in its essence. It begins with Jesus’ gift of himself in the Eucharist and includes his command that we serve others as he has served, that is, with his whole life, even in the grittiest dimensions of human life. Prayer Intention for the Day: Vocations, Service to the Poor, Faith in the unseen presence of God in the Eucharist and all the sacraments.
GOOD FRIDAY The Passion encompasses every kind of suffering—physical, psychological, shame, humiliation, mockery and more—including death. In Jesus’ case, it made no sense cosmically for a totally innocent man to become a scapegoat for us and endure the unmerited suffering as an archetype for all our suffering. Prayer Intention for the Day: Victims of violence, bullying scapegoating, those suffering physical and mental illness. HOLY SATURDAY and EASTER VIGIL At the end of the normal course of life, that is, death, all seemed to be lost. And from a strictly human, earthly perspective it was. The resurrection came out of the blue, just as creation itself did in the first place. Unexpected, beyond our imaging, the resurrection of Jesus makes it possible for us to hope for eternal life. Prayer Intention for the Day: Hope in what appears a hopeless situation, gratitude for the gift of life, trust in God’s mercy. THE MYSTERY OF THE CROSS AND RESSURECTION assures us, however, that hatred, violence, blood and death do not have the last word in human affairs. The final victory is Christ’s, and we must start afresh from him, if we wish to build a future of authentic peace, justice and solidarity for all. -Pope John Paul II, Reflections on the Triduum

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, "Jesus' entry into Jerusalem manifested the coming of the kingdom that the King-Messiah was going to accomplish by the Passover of his death and resurrection. It is with the celebration of that entry on Palm Sunday that the Church's liturgy solemnly opens Holy Week." (no. 560) This year, we celebrate Palm Sunday, also known as Passion Sunday, on April 5.
Palms were used in Jewish tradition to celebrate triumph or victory. The blessed palm frond that everyone receives at Mass is a sacramental to take home. Traditionally Catholics keep their palms near or behind a crucifix, on a prayer altar or with their Bible. Keeping the palm serves as a reminder to remember Jesus' Passion and follow in his footsteps to carry the crosses in our own lives. We are asked to bring our palms back the following year to be burned so the ashes can be used on Ash Wednesday to begin Lent anew. For those who don't return their palms to be burned for Ash Wednesday and want to dispose of them properly, the same rule applies as with any blessed object. They should never be disposed of in the trash. The proper way is by burning or burial. With blessed palms, it would be appropriate to bury them in a flower garden at your home.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Greetings to you dear Parishioners!
It is our hope that this message finds you well and blessed, despite the difficult health situation facing our world today, due to the Coronavirus pandemic! The Archdiocese of Chicago mandated the suspension of all church services, Catholic Schools and Religious Education programs about two weeks ago; and recently, Governor Pritzker passed a “Stay-at-home” order for the state of Illinois as safety measures meant to restrain this situation.
In an effort to implement these guidelines, the Religious Education Program for our Parish, at Divine Providence and at Divine Infant Jesus, has been suspended until further notice. The celebration of the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion have been postponed as well.
Below is a list of the specific activities being postponed:
All RE Classes at DI and DP
Sacrament of Confirmation
First Communion Practice #1 on April 4, 2020
First Communion Practice #2 on April 23, 2020
Sacrament of First Communion- April 25, 2020
At this time, we are waiting to hear from the Archdiocese of Chicago on the way forward; and we will pass the information onto you as soon as we receive it. Please continue to pray for God’s protection against the Coronavirus and for the infected people, their families and their caregivers!

April 5 *PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD*
Traditionally, two Gospels are read on Palm Sunday: one featuring Jesus’ triumphant entrance into Jerusalem and the other recounting his Passion, from the Last Supper to his death and burial. Throughout the entire time, Jesus is faithful to his mission and to his Father's will. But the difference in the crowds in their two key scenes couldn’t be starker. As Jesus rides into Jerusalem, the crowds treat him as royalty, crying out hosannas as they cover the dirt road with tree branches and their own cloaks. But during his trial, the crowd has completely turned against him. It is not enough that they are no longer honoring and praising him. Now they are crying out, “Let him be crucified” (Matthew 27:22-23). Their behavior recalls the actions of the people in today’s first reading who strike and spit at Isaiah’s suffering servant, abusing him as the religious leaders and soldiers would do to Jesus at his trial. Like the suffering servant, Jesus “humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death” (Philippians 2:8). Because of this, for generation upon generation, crowds of people all over the world have bent their knee at the name of Jesus, as we do here today, praising him for offering his life for us, calling upon him for strength to accept our own sufferings, and confessing him as Lord.
How do you imagine yourself in each crowd? FIRST READING Isaiah 52:13-53:12 A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah
The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. RESPONSORIAL PSALM: Psalm 31:2, 6, 12-13, 15-16, 17, 25 (R/.Luke 23:46) R/. Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.
In you, O Lord, I take refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your justice rescue me. Into your hands I commend my spirit; you will redeem me, O Lord, O faithful God. R/. For all my foes I am an object of reproach, a laughingstock to my neighbors, and a dread to my friends; they who see me abroad flee from me. I am forgotten like the unremembered dead; I am like a dish that is broken. R/.
But my trust is in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God. In your hands is my destiny; rescue me from the clutches of my enemies and my persecutors.” R/.
