Q.5 a) It is observed that a run-of-river plant operates as peak load plant with a wcekly loadfactor of 25 % all this capacity being firm capacity. Determine the minimum flow inthe river so that power plant may act as a base load plant .the following data issupplicd:Rated installed capacity of generating plant = 10 MW, operating head = 16 m, plantefficiency = 86 %.If the stream flow is 15 m'ls, Find the daily load factor of theplant.

Q.6 a) The air in the gas turbinc plant is taken in L.P. compressor at 293 K and l.05 bar andafter compression it is passed through the intercooler whcre its tcmperature isreduced to 300 K .the cooled air is further compressed in H.P. unit and then passed inthe combustion chamber where its temperature is increased to 750 °c by burning thefuel. The combustion products expand in H.P. turbine which runs the compressor andfurther expansion is continued in L.P. turbine which runs the alternator. The gasescoming out from L.P. turbine are used for heating the incoming air from H.P.compressor and then expandcd to atmospherc.Pressure ratio of each compressor ~ 2, isentropic efficiency of each compressor stage~ 82 %, isentropic efficiency of each turbine stage = 82 %, effectiveness of heatexchanger = 0.72, air flow = 16 kg/s, calorific value of fuel ~ 42000 kJlkg K, c, (forgas) = 1.0 kJlkg K, Cp (for gas) = I. I5 kJlkg K, y (for air) =1.4, y (for gas) =1.33.Neglecting the mechanical, pressure and heat losses of the system and fuel mass also.Determine the following:i)The power outputii)Thermal efficiencyiii)Specific fuel consumption

The incremental fuel costs for two generating units 1 and 2 of a power plant aregiven by following equations:

dF,/dP, = 0.07 P, + 24dF';dP,= 0.075 P, + 22

Where F is fuel cost in rupees per hour and P is power output in MW. Determine:i) The economic loading of the two units when the total load supplied by the powerplants is 180 MW.ii) The loss in the fuel cost per hour if the load is equally shared by both units.

A input output curve of a 10MW station is expressed as follows:1=4 xlO' (10 + 8L +OAL')

Where I is in kJlhour and L is in megawatts.i) Without plotting any curve find the load at which the maximum efficiency occurs.ii) Find increase in the input required to increase station output from 3 to 5 MW bymeans of the input-output curve and also by incremental rate curve.
