Where it all started…Rave subculture started in the late 80’s, with Acid House culture. It was a London based

phenomenon and many organizations started holding illegal raves in abandoned warehouses etc.

‘’In the early 1990s, the scene was slowly changing, with local councils passing by-laws and increasing fees in an effort to prevent or discourage rave organisations from acquiring necessary licenses. This meant that the days of legal one-off parties were numbered. By the mid-90s, the scene had fragmented into many different styles of dance music, making large parties more expensive to set up and more difficult to promote. The happy old skool style was replaced by the darker jungle and the faster happy hardcore’’

The Fashion… The fashion is bright, crazy, neon and clashing. It is all about showing you are individual and different.

Glow-Sticks are often used to adorn the body. This is a rave cliché as the strobe lights etc in venue’s mean that (along with the bright clothes) it creates a dreamlike, jilted, crazy image. People go to raves to dance and enjoy the atmosphere, therefore their clothes show this.

The Subculture…

Rave’s are known for their illegal practice and the inevitable drug use that comes with enjoying a heated, almost animal experience.

Rave’s are often dreamlike, with many people saying they ‘loose themselves’ in the music.

Because of the nature of a rave, youth’s are attracted to it because of the rebellion attached to the phenomenon.

Rave’s started the trend for ‘party’ drugs such as Ecstasy and MDMA, leading to police cracking down on them more than ever.

The Music…Rave culture has evolved over the last 20 years from mainly electro/80’s popular music to more genre’s being added such as Jungle, Hardcore, Death Dance and Industrial. Due to the rebellion aspect of rave’s, the music has got darker and more political over the last decade. Bands such as Brokencyde has emerged, merging death metal and dance beats to create the genre ‘Death Dance’

My track is quite dark and would be counted in the ‘Industrial’ genre. I want to include the dreamlike aspect of the music in my video
