ELDERS UPDATE

YO WIKSAS? Spring has sprung. I love seeing our children

clean our village for their carnival bracelets.

Please, if you see an Elder's yarn needing

cleaning, feel free to pick it up for them. Some of

them are unable to do it themselves. Good job!

We have had quite the couple of weeks here.

Elder's Day Programs have dies down a bit. Let's

hope it picks up now that the weather has. Lucy

Hemphill, Ross Hunt, Seth, Ernie Hanuse, Mary-

lynn, Xainya, Tommy Brown & myself all went

clam digging for the Elder's on Tuesday evening.

Thank you team! John Smith & Tommy

Henderson Jr. have also dug in Blunden for them

also. Thank you guys very much! The Elder's will

be feasting on some of the clams Monday at

Elder's Day. Don't forget we will be drawing 2

names of those that will get to go down island for

what ever it is that they desire. Please note: this

is not a funded activity. All expenses at the

winners expense :) Just another way to entice

you Elder's to get involved with Elder's Day

programs.

Thank you to all those that have been helping

with Cater jobs. We has one last week for Trust

and one this week for the community Trust TRM

meeting where we fed 55 people. Great job team!

:D

We have been discussing where we will go this

summer. We have 2 options:

1. Annual Elder's Conference July 7-9 in

Penticton, 1 trip only

2. a) Stay behind and take part in hosting Canoe

Journey when they arrive in Takush. I can work

on transportation and sleeping arrangements for

those that wish to go over for this. You don't have

to stay over night. You can just go for they day

and be brought back. We would use the GNN

Marine water taxi's to go to and from.

b) A small trip, as well as the Canoe Journey, in

August/September to North Vancouver or

Mission to attend a Pow wow.

So you can either chose 1 or 2. Please note that

yes there are two parts to 2. The canoe journey

will only be 1-2 day activity. Which is why there

is an option of another small trip in August

should you chose 2. Please feel free to call me to

discuss your decision. We will have the deadline

of April to finalize your decision. So please be

sure to attend the next 2 Elder's Day Programs

to get your input included.

I attended a Film Festival in Vancouver with my

family, my dad as well, where they showed How

a People Live. It was a part of the Woman's Day

Film Festival and won an award for best

produced documentary. After the film was

shown, they had a panel of discussion where an

Elder that was in the documentary, and is an

Elder, went into further details and answered

questions the public may have had. WAY TO GO

COLLEEN & TEAM!!! Colleen and her team

have done a very good job on this documentary.

Now we have something to show our children

when they ask "Where do we come from?" I thank

Colleen and her team for all their hard work that

has been put into this amazing film. I can't wait

to see the next one :) You rock!

That's it for now ladies & gents. Hope you all

have a great weekend.
