COMMODORE’S COMMENTS Welcome back! Hope your summer was fun and relaxing. Charlie and I tried to do our part by pointing the RV north, seeing family in Virginia , neighbors in Pittsburgh, and friends in Canada. We are real excited to get back into the groove of club activities which of course starts off with a General Meeting on Tuesday September 9th and then our "Welcome Back" Dinner Dance on Saturday September 27th. Seems that dancing is not a popular activity north of the Mason- Dixon line. We really missed that. A major project of stripping the floors was planned in July and should be completed by September. I think this will really improve the appearance of the club house. Hard to believe that the calendar will celebrate Autumn this month and the beginning of fall and holiday activities but it's here so let's embrace the remainder of 2014. See you in September! PRESIDENT - EVEN KEELS The Board of Directors will meet at 11:30 a.m. in the clubhouse on Thursday, September 11. The entire membership will be meeting for a potluck lunch on October 16th, at noon. Hope to see all of our board members on the 11th. PUBLIC RELATIONS Wow! Summer (of 2014!!) is almost over. During which, I’m pleased to say, we acquired 4 new members. your spouse have a cell, please, if you care to share, emailme with those numbers and who they belong to. It’ll beeasier for all of us to communicate that way! You canemail me at [email protected] rather thanusing my personal email. It’s easy for me to lose messagesin the morass of stuff that appears in my personal one, sothe SVYC address is a better choice for club stuff. Can’t wait for the season to start - see you all soon!

TREASURER

All’s well at the Club financially. We have been drawing down on thecash we provisioned for the ‘no-income’ period over the summer and weexpect to arrive in September with thebalance we anticipated – still quite healthyand better than last year at this time, and better than budgettoo.

We received the Sarasota property tax appraisal, as we alldid, and it appears that we may have lower property taxesnext year. This is good news all round and should offsetsome of the other normal increases which have shown up. We’ve picked up several new members this year, so we arehopeful that we’ll have a good Fall season.

Finally, as you may have already heard, Anne and I arenow living down here in paradise.

See you at the dinner dances and for the special activitieswe have planned!

BEVERAGE

October, November, and December -- very important months for all of ushere at the SVYC. We decide on theOfficers for the coming year.

At the October General Meeting at leastfive members shall be elected from the floor, by themembers, to the Nominating Committee. A member maymake but one nomination to serve on this Committee and amember of the past year's nominating committee may notbe re-elected to this committee. The Committee shall thenmeet and select a Chairman who will be the spokes-personfor the Committee.

VOLUME XXXV ISSUE 6 PAGE 2

The Nominating Committee shall present theircandidates for all ten elected offices at theNovember General Membership Meeting.Candidates, for these Offices, may also benominated from the floor at this meeting.Nominations may be made by 'slate' or individuallywith the election, from the floor by the GeneralMembership, held at the December GeneralMeeting.

The elected officers shall take office commencingthe first day of January.

BUILDINGS & GROUNDS

Nothing exciting from Bldgs. &Grounds except a big note ofthanks to George Fakkety for thenew docks. Victoria and I usedthem last week as we sailed oursmall motorboat up Alligatorcreek and right up to the dock.We tied up to the padded edge, looked around and cast off withease. An excellent, seaworthy job; Bristol Fashionin all regards!

The lawn has been mowed regularly, the weeds andshrubbery are under control and there is a new dooron Elmer's Closet. There was a small leak on thefloor, by a door, the other day, but I'm not sure itcame from the roof or from under the door. Furthertests are scheduled. The main floor has beencleaned by Keith Miller and looks very nice, butthere are a few spots that need buffing out I think. We'll have to check on the final results.

We have more kayaks and canoes than ever on therack and 3 trailers parked out back. As we get moreseafarers' on board we may have to look at trailerparking and a larger canoe rack. In the Fall, we willhave another pruning party to cut back summergrowth around the lawn edges. The HVAC systemneeds a checkup, and this winter would be a goodtime to get estimates for next year if repairs orreplacements are mandated. Finally, the Audiosystem is not running on all cylinders and needs atune-up. Any techies out there who could assistwith a tech/check? Yours for good maintenance,

Tony Murfin
